Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

The Darcy proposed deal is not a bad outcome. The extra year would be perfect but 2026 is not too bad.
Not ideal that he will be a UFA by then we could lose him for minimum chips. Could mean trading him end of 2025 to get value.
But by 2026 he will be 10 years on the list aged 28, if we can’t win a flag or do something substantial in that time then he will be thinking WTF, how much more time can I give this club? His career will be nearer the end by then, he would have every right to say I have 4 good years left to explore something decent elsewhere.
Not having to commit long term $$ to him is ideal and protects the club cap too.

How Freo lured Luke Jackson, and its plan to build a superstar

Good article here on how Jackson landed at freo

What’s with the negativity re Darcy ?
Signing until 2026 is a hell of a lot better then losing him now.
It shuts the noise off for the next 18 months and if Jackson the fwd/ruckrover never eventuates we are not stuck with two rolls Royce ruckman for the rest of the decade.
Cox is priority 1 now if we lost him it would hurt a lot more then half a dozen wingers pissing off

Because Freo delisted and re-rookied Schultz a few years ago he automatically is a free agent every time he comes out of contract regardless of years played.
Another two years on top of his contract and he would've been a free agent anyway. One contract away from making that mistake irrelevant.

Dylan Moore from Hawthorn is another delisted to the rookie list in 2020 that just seems bizarre now.

Scott Lucas knows there will be massive Tasmanian money on offer in that little window of 2026 to 2028. Sean would be 28, at the absolute peak of his powers with a bulging salary cap league wide.

We won’t get band 1 compo though if he left in 2026 as a 28 year old.
He would be too old to trigger that kind of compo then no matter what he’s paid.
Overall it’s a decent outcome for freo - hedging bets on a 2 year deal is ideal.
If it’s clearly not working with Jacko we will know by the end of 2025 and can trade him for a decent return with one year left in contract.
If it is, we can keep him.
Win:win

Hopefully we can win back to back flags in 25,26 then let the big man sail to the apple isle to set up himself and his family for the rest of his life.

We need to stop thinking about draft picks and start thinking of flags.
We killed it at the Draft 16-21 our core is set for the rest of the decade.

He will absolutely get band one. He is 28 then. He would get a five year contract elsewhere. That is not a concern of mine. Fremantle will never be able to compete with the money Tasmania will be able to throw around fielding half a team of teenagers and eighty percent of their list on $100,000 a year.

We will have Sean for a long time, right when we need him. Knobel needs to be AFL ready in two years just in case.

But I still don't think Darcy leaves end of 2026.

Surely he would be almost a certainty to go back to Tasmania in 2028, plus we don't really need more small 181cm midfielders. Don't think it is worth the cost to get GC's pick. Curtin or Duursma might be a different story, but I think they will be taken by WC/North/Hawks.
I love McKercher as a player but on reflection his size does worry me a bit.
We have a lot of midget mids already, certainly compared to the top sides. Would be a great fit in a midfield that had a couple of bid bodied beast like Melbourne Demons or the like
We need MJ to come on and be our midfield bull

I just don’t see that trade being done. Paying lots for Jackson is one thing, we and everyone else knew what we were getting, a very rare type of player. I don’t see Sydney giving Logan up easily and it wouldn’t come cheap. Too risky to sell the farm again this soon for a not yet developed (albeit talented) player

I'd be genuinely surprised if Logan is interested. If for no other reason than the Swans don't lose a lot of player (Dawson I suppose).

If he wants to go, it doesn't matter if the Swans don't want to let him go, he'll be OOC. No doubt he will still cost plenty.

2017 at pick number 9 Aaron Naughton
CTD stipulated not a big name - hence no Naughton.

Also I said 2018-2021 because IMO, one you go 6 years back the pick taken becomes irrelevant.

I've always understood McDonald is very happy in Sydney so I'd be surprised if it happened but reading the Jackson article today, when Walls like's a WA kid, he's all in and we reportedly were very keen on Logan from his draft year. I'm pretty sure we are chasing very hard

Yeah Wallsy doesn't seem to be able to let it go. Obsessed with gun WA juniors.
