Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

I still wonder about the comment from walls last year about attracting people not originally from WA, I’m curious if he was talking about anyone in particular..

Think if we get a big name free agent it could take us to the next level similar to what Lachie did to brissy

I feel like interested from those players may have waned after our season this year.

Also did we ever get a definte answer for Jackson's contract? When they announced Amiss extension, the article on the freo site said he joined jackson as contracted to 2029, but the Nathan Schmook article today said 2027.

Nope.

The way he plays, is a perfect foil for Amiss.

His aggression, desperation, team first mentality and natural forward instincts are going to be vital if we want to go all the way.
All good points, well made.

Treacy was regularly marking the pill in the WAFL, in big packs, on the lead, however he wanted it.

Sure, it is literally a different ball game, but the difference that matters here is not Burley vs Sherrin or slightly inferior oppo; that’s all part of it, but the real difference is mental.

Toward the end of the season, Trace started looking like he owned the joint.

Once he does own it - and he will - he will be the absolute perfect foil for Nev and the forward line general.

All of those goal kicking mids in Collingwoods list are outside mids except De Goey, who is an ex foward and presumably still rotates there.
It's not like Adams, Pendlebury and Mitchell are kicking piles of snags.

Ideally we need more goals from our wingers.

Doesn’t really matter if they’re wingers, inside mids, the no.1 ruck or even HBFs. We need to get more goals from players that aren’t forwards.

I don’t really think it matters how those opposition players hit the scoreboard, whether they spend time forward etc. The point is they do. For whatever reason whether it’s roles, coaching or talent our team does not get enough goals from non-forwards and IMO we aren’t improving too much if we don’t sort that out.

As that comparison with Collingwood shows our actual forwards don’t compare too badly to theirs. It’s as I suspected though - not enough goals from elsewhere.

Personally I think Serong is one that needs to lift his goals scored. He had enough shots to be in our top ten goal kickers quite comfortably.

Fremantle Dockers ruckman Sean Darcy poised to sign three-year contract extension to remain at club

Tue, 5 September 2023 10:29AM

Fremantle ruck Sean Darcy is poised to sign a lucrative three-year extension that will keep him at the club for at least the next four seasons.
Darcy’s current contract expires at the end of next season when he will become a restricted free agent, but he is believed to have turned his back on lucrative offers to move interstate.
One source told The West Australian the new deal will take him through to 2027 when he will become an unrestricted free agent.

The prospect of playing in the Dockers’ first ever premiership was understood to be a motivating factor as the Dockers finished a disappointing season in strong fashion, winning three of their last five games, after playing finals in 2022.
The West Australian reported in June the Dockers would be forced to cough up to keep Darcy, with Geelong tabling a huge offer in a bid to lure him home.
That offer from the Cats is believed to have been worth about $1 million a season for five years, although his manager Scott Lucas has denied the claim.
The 25-year-old, a Doig medallist in 2021, had surgery to repair ligament damage after injuring an ankle in round 18 against Collingwood and did not add to his 15 games in 2023.
He was still sporting a moon boot when spotted with teammates cheering on the club’s WAFL affiliate Peel Thunder in a finals win on Saturday.
He was above average in most categories and elite in hitouts (39.1) this year and barring injury and will play his 100th game in round two of next season.

Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir was last month adamant Darcy would shirk rival offers to remain in purple.
“As far as I’m concerned (Darcy is playing for Fremantle in 2024) and for many years to come, in my opinion,” he said.
It means the Dockers are committed to Darcy’s ruck partnership with athletic big man Luke Jackson, with around $1.8 million of their salary cap tied to the duo each year.
Former captain and two-time Brownlow medallist Nat Fyfe’s latest contract includes a significant pay cut, set to help ease any salary strain on the club.
Fyfe has slashed his wage by more than half, from $1.1 million to the AFL average of about $400,000.
That is despite Jackson, who was named in the All-Australian squad, shining in a late-season period rucking solo with Darcy injured.
The Melbourne premiership player and former Rising Star winner signed a seven-year deal that takes him to the end of 2029 when he moved to the club in a high-profile trade.
“Through the middle part of the year when we played our best footy in my opinion, they were both both playing,” Longmuir said last month.
“It gives us more flexibility to use Jacko in different ways and now we continue to grow Sean’s forward craft and our ability to kick it to him better in the forward half.”

So you they make a statement that was false and then re-run 🤦‍♂️

I’d be surprised if we aren’t after JVR, would really compliment Amiss, wrecking ball type and imo shows more intent than McDonald.
Not a big name, but building a pretty big reputation as one the preferred forward options at the Dee’s.
Not sure if JVR would complement Amiss as much as McDonald

Think of these set ups that work

Kennedy / Darling
Lynch / Riewoldt
Hawkins/ Cameron

JVR is probably a bit too similar to Amiss in size and playing style . Not saying I wouldn’t like him in the team though

How Freo lured Luke Jackson, and its plan to build a superstar

Good article here on how Jackson landed at freo
Dont know why Cornes worry about Jackson trade. I didnt know Walls was into him at age 16, but atleast all of us knew he trained with us in draft year. So club should have known what jackson going to become. In Twomey ranking in July he was at 21, Aug at 17 Sep at 17 and 1 week before the draft at 11. In the week before the draft some one in our board said we are into Jackson and may reach at pick 7 or 8.But some of us melt here. And also heard that week that we are trying to upgrade pick 7.... Then suddenly in the last mail 1 day before the draft Twomey had Jackson going to Melbourne. We might have tried everything to get him. When Walls said we rated him at 1 ... that must be 100% true by the way things have gone.

Probably worked out better that we didn’t cough up what would have been 7 & 10 to trade up to 3 to land Jackson, instead we used 10 & 22 to get to 8 and secured Young and Serong, bringing in Jackson 3 years later has helped build a core of players the same age.

Agree to agree/ disagree 🤣.
But I really don’t see Amiss and JVR the same at all.
Jacob is bash and crash, Amiss to me is tracking like a Cameron, his field kicking to pick out teammates and to bring others into the game is unselfish and very team oriented.
JVR is busting packs and Amiss is your lead up - ground ball opportunist.
Amiss did however surprise with a few a couple of unbelievable one on ones and those couple of huge pack marks…
The two of them would be unbelievable in the same side……

JVR and Amiss would be one hell of a duo, I think we’ll be chasing him hard over the next few years

I’m calling it now, I think he’ll come back to WA in 2 or 3 years
