Good effort poor connection around the ground ..
Lot of our depth players are real VFL players --
I don't see it with mirkov no ability below his hips let alone his knees and doesn't have a presence -
Akuei to fumbly not a natural ball handler - nice mover with marking ability but long way off if ever ..
Carrol chance needs improve his kicking -

Three first year blokes looked good okeefe lemme Binns surprised dons didn't give okeefe a go ..

But for mine kemp is the one who looks to have an extra level in him his hand to foot speed , initial 4-5 strides quick and disposal and marking very nice -- I know it a problem of where to play him but he to good for VFL

If he gets a chance half way through the season he won't come out of side

Almost everything here would suggest we slapped them, but alas, here we are.

Our inability to convert our i50 dominance and the monumental free kick advantage to them the big takeaways.

Binns had a good 2nd half, good to see Carroll start the season well.

Think we definitely have a couple of good ones in Lemmey and O’Keeffe.

58 to 39 inside 50s tells the story.

All those freebie goals from dodgey umpiring meant they could drop 2 behind the ball in the last to make scoring difficult.

Have to ignore the scoreline and judge the performance. In which we belted them for large portions of the game.

Dow was very good. He has the endurance to keep going til the end. And so glad to see his drive in the last quarter. Powered forward at every opportunity. Determination was obvious and epic.

Lemmey has a lot of development left to go but such a talent. Can kick!

Binns looks very very good. A bit light but he has time. We're recruiting natural footballers now which I like.

Dom looks good sometimes. Not good other times. Very raw still.

Fog is the classic in betweener. Too good for VFL not quite got the weapons for AFL level.

Carroll - love this guy. Seriously smooth mover. Again a natural footballer given time to develop. Just turned 20 - got another 3 years before his peak.

Plow - just clogging the list at this point. Too good for VFL in the first half. Bog ordinary in the second. We've gone past him now surely.

Kemp was very good. Had some real impact about his game but still a while off demanding an AFL spot.

Hoping we stick with Kemp mainly as third tall defender.

Probably his best position and chance of making the 22.

Gov and marchbank always injured and I'd rather not go back to Plow if we can.

So what are we thinking - dedicated development year for Kemp as understudy to Gov? Gov goes down and Kemp is next in (assuming Marchbank is still in a full body cast)?
Plowman still ahead of Kemp IMO

So we’ve gone past a player who for the majority of the game was to good for the level, until he was effectively tagged as a full back? Makes sense - I guess it upsets the narrative that he played so well.
Best 22 - probably not. Extremely solid as a depth option - it’s beyond argument that’s what he can provide, which is an important part of list strategy whether you like it or not.

Plowman is solid depth as a medium defender.

He’s not as silky, strong overhead or as quick as others we have in that role. But he’s still good enough to do a job at AFL level when required.

Reads the ball well and provides structure.

I wish we’d just accept the ability of some players without the vitriol.

Poor result, but plenty of positives from the game.

Kemp and Carroll confirmed they just need opportunity in the top team (in an appropriate role)
O’Keeffe confirmed my rating that he is a player of the future. He strikes me as the type who will be ready for top grade sooner than most young rucks, due to his athleticism and combative nature. Mirkov was fine, but needs to elevate or young Hudson will overtake him very quickly.

Binns is an absolute goer. I knew that, just needs to tidy disposal and add a couple of kilos to be AFL viable. Draft wise, he was a surprise for me. Excellent player and athlete, just surprised we called out a bloke whose weakness is disposal efficiency. Will be watching his progress intently.

Dow is Dow. Honey is too inconsistent for mine, will need plenty of growth to survive the end of year cut. Fogarty remains a quality player at the level, just too small and pedestrian for the role at the top level. Akuei remains a highlights reel likely to run out of time for an upward transition.

Lemmey is a typical gangly young KPF. Will take a bit of time to establish a consistent body of work, but plenty to work with.
Plow and Cincotta are great depth, but face an uphill battle to cement long term spots in the squad. Will come down to a numbers game. Nigel’s night was very brief.?.?.? LOB solid but unspectacular in his TOG backing up.

Plowman has all the talent in the world and none of the mental durability required.
It's not that he can't seriously play, it's that he constantly goes to water in the ones.
Has proven he can't keep it together.
We should just move on.

Don't forget, every game and training whether 2s or 1s is an opportunity to develop and improve.
He's just not taking his chances and seems pretty comfortable with it.

What crap umpiring. Some of them should find another line of work.
How do they improve if they leave the game because a bunch of supporters say they should? Enough young people are hounded out of the sport by abuse from over the fence and online. Perhaps the supporters need to change?

Yes. Bring back StarChamber!

Honey needs a job, gets lost sitting at HF. Play him higher, around the stoppages and a share of centre bounces

Honey isn't playing midfield in the AFL. What's the point of doing it at VFL level?
The kid has enough to “make it”. Bit of a hangover from previous regime, a bit happy in his own skin. Needs to up the intensity and workrate. Plays a role where his own efforts dictate opportunity, particular at the more congested second tier.

Carroll has been asked to play a variety of nuanced roles and made a good fist of most of them. Even Philp when fut adapted to roles. Honey’s stop start trajectory hasn’t allowed variety of roles to date. By ‘a job’ would love him to have a stint back to see if he can read the play and impact as a rebounder.

Not suggesting he should play as a mid.

Suggesting he starts as a HF, pushing up to the edge of a stoppage, a few cameos at centre bounces

Think that would get him more involved, which, with his xfactor traits, could take him to another level

I really dislike agreeing with you 😂 but you’re 100% spot on.

He's done nothing at forward stoppages to suggest he can suddenly find it in the midfield, be it cameo or not.

There were more than enough forward entries and stoppages for him to get more involved in the game last night.

This is a bit strange

How would anyone know what is asked of him at a forward stoppage?

The VFL is where you tweak a players responsibility, role, positioning, etc

Trial him as a HHF, give him some centre bounces, especially with his burst speed
