I don’t even think it was the offer it was more he doesn’t want to start in the vfl
He and we made the right choice
If we get a ready made ruck they need to be prepared to play some vfl and know where our list is at
This is where dfa work well as they are just happy to be on a list still so that role is fine and they can back themselves in

We offered Goldy, a club champion, some spare change because we expect him to play mostly in the VFL. We aren't going after someone even more cooked than him. It's either kids we're keen to develop, mature (but not on the way out) blokes who can still break even every second week, or nothing at all.
As there's nothing happening I'll play the semantics game. Is he a club 'legend', 'champion' or 'great'?
Think legend is strictly reserved for the likes of Carey, Blight, Harvey, Archer etc
Also a legend I would categorise as someone with decent ability/a good player who played a key role in a premiership, either in finals or a GF. Goldstein was a very good ruckman and for a few years was probably the best ruck in the competition but I'd probably place him somewhere between champion and great on the rating scale. I don't like being too liberal with labels like 'legend'. Although the football media calls any player a 'star' so based on that anyone who has achieved anything remotely decent is a legend.
Anyway... a point of pointless debate and semantics with nothing happening other than people asking if anything is happening or suggesting unrealistic trades.

From my posts on the 11 and 12th October.
1. Eagles need a sure fire Midfielder more than they need a utility who may be good at all areas but not a gun midfielder.
2. You can't start a rebuild with 1 top pick and then a pick at 27ish.
3. Eagles want NGA prospect Collard who was supposed to go at picks in the 40 range. He is now bolting into a top 20 pick and Freo also want him seeing they just lost Henry and Schulz. Freo currently have a pick before Weagles.
4. Weagles need one of our teen picks to get Collard.
5. Weagles now caught in the HR VORTEX thinking they were going to get massive offers when in reality it has fizzled and they may take Reid at 1 regardless of Midfield needs otherwise the fan base will burn the place down. That is why they are desperate to trade out 1.
In other words I've taken an educated guess from all the available information.

Full disclosure, I've never really loved Goldy. Bit too soft for my liking as a ruckman, but I feel bad even typing that, the bloke has played over 300 games for us. Could have taken larger offers to go elsewhere, all those things. So he was our Goldy. That mark he took in the dying seconds agains Geelong in the final was ridic too.
But, having said all that, I think if you play 300+ games for a football club, you prob deserve to be called a legend of that club

I agree. He doesn’t play well with other ruckman, it’ll be a bit of a system shock to Draper when he’s parked at full forward for 20 minutes at a time.
It will be interesting to see how well it works.

It’s an educated guess.
We turned down the Hawthorn offer which probably would’ve got us Curtin. This has finally stopped the rhetoric that we’re taking Curtin at 1/ trading down for Curtin.
So now the talk is McKercher is the one. It’s now becoming apparent that the club is keen on him, even if the media isn’t launching into it yet.
I do need to stress though, aside from our list manager saying basically nothing on trade radio yesterday, Reid will be taken at 1. It’s just whether the club is as keen as the fanbase is.

I disagree. We want Reid, but we probably want McKercher with healthy add ons too. It’s up to North whether they want to pay that or not

Yeah fair enough. Neither of us really know. Football clubs are funny joints. Most want to re-create history and just like supporters they see certain traits in players.
Judd a being one of your finest players in history, I would think, he was ridiculously good.
Then you've got Matera from 1994 times, who was also that explosive inside to outside player.
I dunno, McKercher looks like that type to me, I really hope we end up with him, but I could see West Coast thinking he could be an all time great, playing like the above two players.
I know I look at MCKercher and don't think Judd, I think Wayne Schwass. A bloke who rips the ball out of the contest and bursts off. Schwatta a little more aerial than Colby though.
I just think there's more to what everyone says.
