We have to take at least two talls in this draft. We have five top 20 picks before academy and f/s. Have to be able to get those talls in with that sort of capital. Can use the fifth on a small forward/defender or additional tall. Whatever the case, getting a midfielder, half forward or half back should be right at the bottom of our priorities.Unless we go the development route and forget the short-term Comben shift down back. Having Nyuon, Dawson and Pink as older key defenders on short contracts is great, as it still allows us to pick up a kid (OāSullivan) and develop him in the vfl for a few years without feeling the need to rush a kid in. If not, we still need a developing kpf and ruck.
Softening up the Eagles supporters for 2 and 18 being a fair trade.Tonight is the first night I've actually thought this might have actual legs.
"Not that big of a gap between Harley and the rest" is an extremely strange comment by the Eagles list manager on Perth radio an hour ago.
Could you imagine how insane that would be?The west coast board is full of genuine fruit loops - now wannabe ITK posters are saying 2, F1 and 15 for 1in what universe would we ever do that?

Sounds like a club lowering expectations because they want to trade it to us. Pick 2 and 18 should get it done. Unless of course, we might be more into McKercher ourselves and force them to make a choice saving us pick 18.Just listened to it, definitely the first time theyāve softened their stance.
Said other lads closed the gap this year, āif there was oneā. And that he isnāt miles ahead of the rest like people suggest.
Hmmmmmmā¦
I think GWS will take Sully if he's there at 7. It's probably not an immediate need but he's an Albury kid, he's more likely to commit to the Giants long term. He can develop away in the two's and come in on his own timeline when he's ready. You maybe right.
Giants place high value on guys who are willing to commit to move and I think O'Sullivan would be willing.
I definitely donāt like them. They are going the all in strategy. I hope it fails.Hell hath no fury like a footy club's supporter base scorned. As with Brad Scott, it seems fashionable to heap scorn on Port due to JHF. (Not suggesting you've necessarily done this here Zebs, but plenty have.)
The draft is but one mechanism for obtaining players, and the fact that they've neglected it this year says more about where they see themselves on the 'premiership clock'. It's a matter of perception, of course, but at the end of the day, they see themselves needing to top up with more mature, role players to complement a side that went okay for a fair chunk of the 2023 season. How many years have we derided Geelong for being 'too old'?
So, with Ivan Soldo and Jordon Sweet (seasoned ruck and decent young ruck prospect), and Esava Ratugolea and Brandon Zerk-Thatcher as non-18 year old backline players, they've presumably recruited with the view to being immediately competitive. They also didn't start with a good draft hand, courtesy of last year's trades, one of which we shan't mention.
I know what you're saying, and yes it does make it look like some trades happened out of thin air.But itās a touch disingenuous/misleading to show what we went from to where we are without including them, donāt ya think.
They could just do a salary dump like collingwood.Curious, is the a limitation to how much of Ben McKay's contract can be paid out each year?
So, going on that his getting 850k a year as reported, can they pay out so much in the first year to pay him only 700k each of the following years?
I know a lot of contracts are front or back ended, but surely AFL would have a limit?
There are no restrictions outside of what the player and club agree to.Curious, is the a limitation to how much of Ben McKay's contract can be paid out each year?

Delusional bunch... they are desperate to split pick 1 and improve their draft hand even though they wont admit it. Then expect a godfather offer to come their way. Unforetunately Reid is only a run of the mill type "generational talent", the type wich occurs almost every year. The west coast board is full of genuine fruit loops - now wannabe ITK posters are saying 2, F1 and 15 for 1in what universe would we ever do that?
Do you and your guys (including mods) access BF using a range of platforms?Seeing as they are the ones in charge of individual ad units, that's the only logical action to take.
I greet my son every day asking ācan we kick it?ā.
And then if he canāt we roll over to one of his homeboys and I bust a cap.
. NOOOOPEEEE
looking forward the more guns in a side the fewer journeymen you have to carry, surely picks 2 and 3 give you access to a pair of guns, as good as reid "may" be he wont be worth 2 gun players? and thats assuming he doesnt have a freak injury at some stage?? we are in a unique position where we have been able to take 2 of the best 3 in consecutive drafts, thats a hell of a lot of talent. good insurance as well.I'm pretty firm on Duursma having the highest ceiling in this draft class. With that often comes a high bust rate, but I'm confident he'll be a player.
Please just take 2 and 3.
Yeah my biggest take away from that is:Rawlings has also confirmed we have 32 signed on the primary list in the club video just posted
And mentioned we will likely take 5 picks in the ND
Either our current first 5 first round picks only
Or
We use 2 picks to move up and thus 57 comes into play and ends up our 5th pick
and related, could be a coach all in looking for a short term path to success or sayonara. Whichever way you look at it, can they "out-improve" the likes of Collingwood, Lions, not to mention Carlton and the Swans who were in the big dance a couple of seasons ago with a young team? Fail in 2024 and they'll be calling for Kenny's head once again. Pressure is on.Hell hath no fury like a footy club's supporter base scorned. As with Brad Scott, it seems fashionable to heap scorn on Port due to JHF. (Not suggesting you've necessarily done this here Zebs, but plenty have.)

Yes certainly a far cry from the "it would want to be a very special offer" from a few weeks ago!Softening up the Eagles supporters for 2 and 18 being a fair trade.
Yep im with you there. I hope we do take McKercher and Sanders with 2 and 3 while looking to trade up into that O'Sullivan, Caddy range with a couple of our late firsts.Yes certainly a far cry from the "it would want to be a very special offer" from a few weeks ago!
I'm really not fussed, I actually think I'd prefer to keep 2 and 3, and try to roll 2 teens picks into top 10, and target Kerch, Sanders, O'sullivan, and whoever they've identified (developing ruck perhaps), down in the 50's.
What would be better. Ried & Duursma, Reid & Watson, Duursma & MCkercher or Duursma & Watson ?I'm pretty firm on Duursma having the highest ceiling in this draft class. With that often comes a high bust rate, but I'm confident he'll be a player.

Last year Rawlings stuffed up the list numbers and we ended up having to dump picks. We can't afford to make that rookie mistake again.
At the moment we have four senior list spots and six picks.
If we plan on taking five players at the draft, we need at least six list spots to give ourselves some flexibility. This isn't good news for Bonar and Mahony, we really need to delist them both. If we wanted to keep one of them, we could also pay out or push back Lazarro.
