He had one moment where he ran through the middle of the ground against Freo and people have been waiting, no, expecting that he's capable of that every time he gets the ball and they won't let go.

Reality is he's still not the smartest footballer in the world. Yes he kicked the winning goal the other night, but he should have gone back, run 30 seconds off the clock and then kicked it, instead he left a minute on the clock and gave Melbs the opportunity to kick a leveller, lucky they didn't take it.

He still loves to hit up a long pass to a spectator in the crowd multiple times a game and I still think Wood's last couple of seasons have been better than Acres - I'd love to some peoples FB history looking up old girlfriends and kicking themselves over that one that got away, or perhaps ran away?
2 clubs let him go.

The odds of 2 clubs getting it wrong are very slim and it says more about Acres.

Not many people get a third chance and he has had some great moments for them.

But he isn’t missed, nor is he what we needed today.

We got a second and a late second for postponing our first. Seemed like a good deal on the surface.

We drafted Ben Long and Josh Battle with the two Hawks picks. Long giving us the Hotton pick last year.

If Coff and Hotton come good i'll call it a win.

Depends on how long you're prepared to wait I guess.

This retrospective look at acres and pining is weird.

He just wasn’t that good with us.

It's showing we were poor at trading and identifying players already on the list. I'll be happy when anyone associated with the football department in that era is long gone from the club.

The argument with acres is that a second club binned him aswell.

You can’t pin it on us when he went elsewhere and they felt even less about him then us

Problem is we are still waiting and being told that our list is nowhere near it and Carlton have flown past us like every other club has.

We are living in our car in Frankston looking at Facebook pics of our ex on a yacht off Cinque Terre with her millionaire boyfriend.

As soon as we stop waiting for success I promise to stop whinging.

We just finished 7th. Played a host of kids all year long.

And your still acting like her…

You're telling us we are about to go into another short rebuild and finals aren't guaranteed. We still look a way off and going back into a mini rebuild....again. Selling good players off to draft kids again. Watching Carlton win another final has me very triggered. They are the only joy that I get from football most years. Like uncontrollably pissing yourself but at least they had severe irritable bowel syndrome that made them shit themselves in public and made us feel better about ourselves.

As you said we had to fill positions with kids all year because of injuries and on top of that Steele was well out of touch , King , Membery missed the best part of the season and guys like Gresham were poor and that is 4 out of 7 our best and fairest from last year on top of that players we thought might help us out like Hayes , Coffield , Jones , McKenzie were no where to be seen.
And we still made the 8 so with the youth in the starting 22 you can only expect progress in the coming years with Phillipou , Milera , Windhager , Camaniti , Owens on top of that I fully expect Coffield to produce next season and with the added trades we get in like Henry we are on the right track - plus it must be remembered we had the youngest team in the 8 this year so all the pessimists must realize we must have more upside than any other team in the finals.

I said nothing of a short rebuild.

I said they want to bring more kids through as opposed to loading up on Grundy types.

Yes that means selling off fringe senior bodies for picks to draft them.

Yes that’s the risk with kids. You might go backwards before you go forwards.
But we what we have isn’t a contender.

So surely that makes you happy? It’s clarity direction and a plan

Only if it works and isn't slow.

Of course Carlton have flown past us...they have been underperforming for years.

They've added a shipload of first rounders, cerra, McGovern. They're pick ones are arguably AA mid and Key defenders. They have a big 4 pull to get players on visy contracts.

If anything it should have happened years ago. Looks like we are getting the talent to fly past them though.

SOS built that list remember...

Sos was list manager rather than head recruiter though.

Isn't Carltons list old compared to ours?

Blues should've been in prelims the last few years.

Prime midfield, great CHB and two coleman medalists

So now you’re upset because it might not work and it might be slow?

You’re not making any sense.

You hammer the previous decade for pivoting. Not having a plan. Poor execution.

You see good drafting in back to back drafts and development from coaches. We finished 7th.

And you’re still upset when you have a plan and direction and they are attempting to execute an on the fly retool to meet expectations of supporters like yourself who are complaining for not reason.

We are going back to the draft when we should have been decorating what we built, instead we are going back to the start again. Arse about rebuild. Gresham and Howard are that mid career generation that we're missing a lot of and will end up having to buy back again when we cull. There has to be system in the rebuild not just tangential running in all directions and gambling.

They have to get this right or we will set ourselves backwards again. 3 years ago we were told that buying up a generation that was missing was the answer. Trade time is usually an endurance for me as we see which spuds we'll over pay and who'll we'll give away for nothing.

I'm getting so impatient.

Gresham and Howard have shown they are not the integral pieces to the puzzle you think they are.

We will keep them if we don’t get the value we seek.

If we get that value. We go to the draft.

For all your moaning. It takes some vision to say, hey what we have isn’t good enough and targeting similar ilk players won’t deliver a flag.

If we shed our skin like a snake. We have the opportunity to get better and there might not be a drop off.

Carlton have been horrible for 20 odd years. In fact, since they haven't been able to buy a flag, they haven't been in contention for one. They have under performed with their list for years with all their early 1st round picks, geez, they've been much worse than us.

The fact it's taken this long to get to a preliminary final is not to be envied dude.

That's the way it should stay. Fancy letting those campaigners go past us.

The shardenfraude baton I believe has passed from Richmond who passed the baton to Carlton who have passed it onto Essendon.

Whilst I think we have some challenges we are still building a list....just think about how Port are feeling out in straight sets and Melbourne out in straight sets two years running.

I rate RTB and questions need to be asked about Goodwin and maybe again Hinkley...no doubt Adam Kingsley has the right Koolaide for the players at the moment.

Will not be surprised that a few best 22 from Port and Ds are up for trade to improve their list just like we have to do.

Port have Dursma and Georgiardes that are expendable to get some decent ruck stock.

Demons missing link is they need a ready made forward and they need it right now (premiership window) and can afford to trade half their draft capital at it.

Reckon GCS are sitting in an enviable position my guess would be to consider trading with Ds swapping frdp next year with their 2nd next year and pick 5 and 32 for Bing.

Trade 4 and 5 to WCE for pick 1 and use their picks on their academy picks and trade a player (Holland) or go into deficit next year with a small downgrade.

List managent an the trade period just got very interesting.

Could Demons potentially put an offer too good for Blues to refuse for H McKay?

5, 14 and next year's first? Probably not.

Is Georgiardies gettable from Port.

Know this is the StKilda thread but there will be some fall out yet unknown that may see us poised to take advantage....as Dougal and Gresham are not taking us to Premiership glory in what is left of their careers.

Anyone who followed us through the 80’s should have a raging hard hatred of Carlton, or they’re not doing it right.

Watching one of your favourite ex players who we threw out like a piece of trash get Carlton into a prelim is putrid viewing.

That’s the context and Gresham looks next. Hopefully we can turn him into another Josh Saunders or Ben Long.
