We match and they back out?
Lol

Actually might save us from ourselves that way. You don't trade out the younger talented guys. Just because they want first round picks to get back into the draft doesn't make it a sound strategy. An end of first round pick is hardly going to set us up for the future unless we arse one. If we get a player as good as Gresham with that pick it will be a very good outcome. All it does is buy time for them telling us that we are a young team and to lower expectations.

I don’t think anyone is anticipating all 3 going and most very keen for Coff to stay. Doubt any club is going to give up enough for Billings but the club may just be sick of him. Doesn’t seem an RTB type. Seems more likely than not that Gresham will go.

I think the underlying theme in this thread is we have a core but not a top 4 list. We need to do some shuffling.

Or keep drafting with our high picks and dressing it up from FA and later trade ins of unrealised talent at other clubs and VFL players. Trying to rush it didn't work but trying to gamble our way out doesn't guarantee anything either.

I'd be surprised. He has history with Ross Lyon. But they might have buried the hatchet at Freo.
Every chance Barlow gets to speak about Lyon he can't speak highly enough. He's written plenty of articles about how highly he rates him and said he still asks him for advise and talks to him.

Clearly zero bad blood there.

Coffield is a very different case IMO.

It's not like he's been unprofessional & half arsed in establishing himself as a senior player. It was a freak injury and the resultant soft tissue problems that often follow an ACL.

All indications suggest he's been absolute spot on in his rehab too.

The talent is undoubtedly there and it's in a role that is a need.

Letting that talent walk over giving him the security to keep working his backside off would be madness.

I'm with you.

I don't understand why we wouldn't make him a decent offer. Players with his potential don't just fall out of the sky.

He's done nothing wrong.

I reckon we'd regret losing him... big time.

It was reported that when Lyon went to Freo, Barlow made a point of saying "you didn't like me " , but it was probably at the stage of his career where he was pretty confident and done tongue in cheek.

I still think we would have won a premiership if Barlow had been a Saints rookie.

If Brandan Parfitt is available, rather him over Dow & Jordan. A 3rd rounder pick for him.

I like to think Musk as being multiple people, there's the left-wing environmentalist Tesla guy that builds poorly put together electric cars at a snails pace and sells them to rich people. Then there's the right-wing social media moral that booted anyone with green hair and/or nose ring and/or didn't sleep at their desk in order to work 25 hours a day. Then you have the centrist Musk digging holes and sending people on a one-way trip to Mars (no doubt Gina will be on board in order to suck up all that iron ore there

That sums him up pretty well. He'll be whatever personality you want as long as you invest in him and it helps the the overall Musk brand.
His personality is ultimately bottom line profitability/power. The other bullshit is just bread and circus.

Both Parfitt (& Jack Graham from the Tiges who I rate highly) are contracted for 2024 then become RFAs.

As ‘pre-agents’ they could be gettable but you usually need to pay a premium.

Not sure we’ll have the draft chips or want to move them to get either in.

3 years in the system, 194cm and 84kgs.
No doubt they were hoping he'd grow, but what do you propose we use him for?
Both Sharman and Battle are better at their respective positions and if the Hawks are trying to dump him already then it says a bit IMO.
Didn’t someone say recently that the Hawks themselves don’t see him as a defender, hence why he has been playing forward. Kicked a bag against us for Box Hill, but that says more about Sandy and our key back stocks. Massive bust.

My issue with trading Billing’s, well I have two issues really.
injuries have kept him from playing his best over the last seasons. He is not alone there. Does not mean he is not a good player because he is, better than Higgins and Butler and certainly able to play more positions than both.

if we trade him and he gets his body right it may just come back to bite us, why take that risk for a low pick.

But my main issue is that his life long friend in Jack Sinclair could possibly think well I m not keen on how you treated my family friend and may go and join him.

Best to just keep him and see what happens, he needs a big pre season.

I never said anything about his professionalism.

But it’s worth making the point… what if he gets injured for large parts of next season?

That’s 3 seasons gone in a flash and still guaranteed on the books for another year?

For me, diligence is a 1 year deal with triggers for another year and if he fails it’s up to the club to make the call about another year.

Outside of 2020. He has actually shown very little and that’s not me being a prick. It’s just the truth. We are still hoping he becomes the player he was looking like being 3 years ago. But he never topped 23 touches in a game.

Ultimately, I’m just so over the hope of potential. Unfortunately for Coffield Injuries have hurt him and I want to keep him. But I would be putting it on him to deliver on another year.

Yep, that’s all fair, but you very likely don’t keep him at the end of the day. He also needs to look after himself. I’d rather take the chance because - despite that lack of sustained form - he is someone with high potential.

Well the word is he thinks he needs a circuit breaker on his career and a fresh start elsewhere.

Its probably out of the club’s hands anyway now.

Such a shame.

Yeah that's gunna blow hard if he starts ripping it up elsewhere.

If he thinks he needs to go. He should.

Won’t be many clubs who he will get what RTB and his coaches can give him from a development sense.

Not going to cry over a bloke who hasn’t played in 2 years and for the record….

If we take the rose coloured glasses off and we were one of the other 17 clubs and Coffield was coming to us. I feel like we would be less excited then people on here about Dow or Jordan being linked.

Does Highmore stay if Coff wants to leave?
Highmore's probably going to be left hanging until Coff re-signs or the trade papers go through. Campbell is probably in a similar position but without a specific person attached.
