Coffield McKenzie Jones and Billings...have all been on very good coin whilst rehabbing....

I reckon they would feel like they need to repay the club for their time not on the field.

Asking to go elsewhere for a new start just doesn't cut it for me....and I reckon they all stay. Between them there is say 400 games experience.

We have delisted 4 players this year and will have to do the same again in 12 months. There is potentially Seb retiring and Alison, maybe Highmore that is when you let a couple of these go...Billings contract is up probably Jones and who knows about Membrey.
Their performance in 2024 will determine their fate.
Other than that there is not a lot to cull.

Trading any of those 4 for a late pick is just silly and unless there is a delisted player better than them which is unlikely they should stay with the proviso perform regardless in 2024 or you are goneski.

Also we said Sincs was underperforming until tried in a new role, same with Battle and Wood even McKenzie. No reason Coff cannot become an on baller, winger or even hhf, has speed, height and can kick.

Hope they all stay around and deliver on their potential and belief from the club.

For the draft watchers.... Where is Sanders expected to go?

I'd guess between 8 and 12. Sounds like North aren't getting him but on SEN this morning they said the AFL want to give them a mid first rounder this season and an end of first round pick next year for their effort at poor administration.

I like how they let us sit in our own filth for 10 years but because we slept in our car instead of on a street corner they get given a luxury apartment while we sell our kidney to try to afford to eat still.

It is selling the idea of hard tanking as a model again to clubs that hadn't thought about it for years. Why would you try to stay competitive?

Not counting academy kids hes in the 5-8 range.

North aren't getting access which is nice.

They are gonna get pick 11 though and will probably trade that up to the Suns for pick 4 and take Sanders anyway.

You'd take McKercher before him at 4.

That seems even worse for him. They are stacked with mid sized defenders VanDerMeer, Richards, Crozier, Duryea then Dale and Daniel (who are both former AA).

Probably plays most like Dale as that distributor kicker off HB. Is Duryea playing on? Didn't even realise Crozier was still listed either to be honest.

Crozier played in round 23, not sure about Duryea tbh but I’m not sure there’s more “opportunity” at the dogs than there is at us.

I'm not sure Finnis left of his own volition but I could be wrong.
He did Mordy.

I always suspected that Matt would stay until Rsea Park was finished or at least having the plans/finance nailed down.....Rsea Park was his "baby"

I remember back in pre season 2019 when I think it was jumper presentation day at Rsea.

A warm sunny day,a huge crowd in attendance..........I was wanting a hotdog but the queue was ala the old finals tickets queue length.......so I stood on the terrace until the Q shortened......it never did.

I sensed someone standing right beside me.......It was Matt.

I said well done on everything so far with Rsea etc....he just started telling me about what was planned etc......he was absolutely proud as punch on what had been built to that point........his passion was absolutely infectious.

I was hoping he'd shout me a hotdog .....lol.

Duryea must be ancient by now and Crozier seems to have missed as much footy as Coff. I've watched plenty of Dogs games and he never seems to play.

You don't have take huge risks. Collingwood keep their best players

Though their recently bungling of the player payments saw Grundy and Treloar moved on. Both better players than we may be exiting.

They also have some handy players at other clubs like Stephenson (A pick 6) and Witts. Now yes Witts was fringe when he left, but is certainly an example of a Pies player making good at his new club.

The reason i asked where he would go, was because it was mentioned to me as we were trying to find a later top 10 pick for him.
It is possible that the Roos take him at 4, almost to demonstrate commitment. But they have 800 top 5 picks they’ve used on mids, so doesn’t really make sense. Aside from that top group, it’ll then be out of Sanders, O’Sullivan (the CHB), and Caddy; maybe Wilson at a stretch. So 7 or 8 prob needed at a min.

I may have missed it....but why all the speculation on Coff? Has anyone connected to the club actually expressed any doubts about wanting him to stay?

I mean, yeah he is out of contract and a couple of clubs have indicated interest but that is par for the course with uncontracted players right? It is still some way off "he is going".

I think some are suggesting that Coffield himself may want a fresh start.

The other factor is with his recent injury record that if another club offers him a 2 or 3 year contract, but we don't that it guarantees him an income for longer that he may get with us. Plus maybe more per year as well.

How robust the Saints view him is unknown.

Yep, it’s absolutely filthy.

And thanks for one of the greatest sentences I’ve ever read. A Grade.

Looking at our draft picks we have 3 --- 12 ,31,50 it will be a luck if we score elite talent from our 3 picks.

Which is why the Saints would like some additional 1st/2nd rounders.

So Dow , Henry will be good pick ups.

Yes. Though Henry will consume say a 2nd rounder and Dow say a 3rd/late 3rd.

Which is why the Saints would like some additional 1st/2nd rounders as otherwise post Henry and Dow we will have a very poor pool of draft picks at the draft..

Personally I would take Dow and Henry even if we are unsuccessful in securing by trade some additional 1st/2nd round picks.

It seems that many comments on here are looking for Saints action in both trading players and drafting in new talent. Understandably everyone is in favour of better draft picks and bringing in high talent players from other clubs.

The main sticking point from BF posters seems to be a fear of risk. Yes we want the club to improve our draft picks and recruiting of players, but are afraid of the risk. Seems many are in favour of the principle, but afraid of the reality, of trading Coffield, Clark, Howard, in case they turn out to have great careers elsewhere.

Without risk there is no reward. Yes mistakes may be made, but if we go for safe, go for the known, we will be here in the same spot not improving, or winning that elusive flag.

This is the time to take risks and jettison those who the club doesn't see will get us there, for those who they see will. I am up to moving virtually anyone on, if the risk / reward greatly favours us. It's time to be brave.
You talk about risk v reward.

Tell me what is the reward for trading Coffield? A third round pick in a very shallow draft?

I think we can all understand that you need to give something to get something and I have no issue with trading Howard if the price is right.

I can’t see any reason why we should be trading players for the sake of it though.

We missed the opportunity to get a good price on Clark last year and now the interest seems to have gone anyway so he is another we’d be better off holding onto

I'm not sure Finnis left of his own volition but I could be wrong. I just don't see the love for some of our previous administrators who sold us down the garden path.

You say Bains did a great job of fixing our TPP, so why did we had to get a banker in to fix the TPP which he set up. He clearly made a meal of our top end draftings and seemed to push the idea of swapping high end draft picks for multiple lower picks.

He was instrumental in getting us games in New Zealand, which was not clearly not a success.

We are just finally emerging from the mistakes our our predecessors.

I'm clearly buoyant about our future.

You really are confused about who did what and when.
