Probably going to be a dumb question and maybe I’ll answer it myself but…

If we had to use next years first this year for whatever reason, and then we required a first rounder next year for the Annable bid (assuming these are the rules that will change), as long as we find another one by that draft then it’s sweet?

I’m just trying to understand why so many are reluctant to lose next years picks if we needed to. I’ve never been completely over the drafting rules, points etc.

Yes, but if Annable is good we'll probably need more than just next years first because the points system is changing.

From next year clubs will be able to future trade 2 years in advance - but I suspect that may just have an inflationary effect on player value, much like bringing in 1 year of future pick trading did.

If we’re looking at players on our list, Zokostelsky probably has all the physical tools to play forward ruck.

The one knock on his game has been his kicking. Less costly if he miss kicks one out on the full in the forward line.

Played ruck in the WAFL colts and was a big reason for his team winning the championship.

Hopefully the AFL announce before trade & drafting whether there will be 5 on the bench instead of 4 plus a sub.
That will enable Smith to play as ruck & KPF relief. Prefer his versatility over Fort.

Fagan likes having 3 KPF and i don't see that changing.
We either just find one from somewhere? or use who we have on the list.
Gardiner started up forward until he did his ACL so he is one
The other maybe Doedee.
I see our KPD staying the same come round 0.

Now that we've won one there's every opportunity of blooding players. And who knows someone could bob up like Morris.

And not throwing all your eggs into one basket into next year.

We have Neale at a good level for another 2 years . Maybe 3.

Hang on. I think I have solved the problem of Joe’s replacement.

Come on, I suggested him at least two days ago. Hand in that bandwagon leader card please!

I haven’t seen him play but from what I have read his athleticism is his biggest asset so there is no reason why it couldn’t work if he is ready.

That kind of left field thinking is why I reckon your non-draft posts are more interesting! ;)

(It's more that after probably over a half decade modding the D&T board, no draft posts are interesting any more.)

Jack Hayes is definitely my first choice if available. Either he gets back to the form he showed to begin his career and is a great forward/2nd ruck or he’s good depth and we back in Smith to continue to develop. If that doesn’t work we can go small and have one of the most dynamic/dangerous forward lines in the comp still.

Hate the idea of bringing in a player that wasn’t even very good in their prime let alone well past it. We’ve got enough talent and offensive power to still be a high scoring team.

I must have missed that. I’ve been busy re-watching the Grand Final.

Pretty sure I know the answer but with Joe volunteering to retire does he forfeit all his contract money that he would have earned in 2025?

Leaves us with a fair bit of wriggle room in the cap to give some deserved upgrades and/or trade ins if so.

Goodbye, farewell and amen Joe, loved your out of the ordinary style, enjoy your next journey in life.💕

As an aside to that interview with Daly yesterday regarding Joe, he mentioned about the exit interviews taking place from Monday and mentioned 'a couple' or words to that effect that they would be having discussions with to see what they want to do moving forward.

Who we thinking there might look elsewhere? Dev is an obvious one. Tunstill being the other. I'm not sure McKenna is Fages' favourite and I wonder whether he'll look to go back home a year early now too.

Dev and Tunstill definitely on the move if they have a desire to play regular senior footy and get an offer.

Dev, tunstill, prior

Hearing that Joe would have retired had we won last year, and reflecting on how vital he was in helping get us there this year, make me even more appreciative of him, and happy to know he had no more (mentally) to give.

Certain we have the squad depth to give it a shake next year, and the team will still be fun to watch but we will all enjoy reflecting on this year and Joe will be forever a big part of that!

Forwards talk about their job being easy when the midfield is firing and they are getting good delivery.

Sydney did great this year until that game because their midfield delivered the ball well. Beating them required beating their midfield.

Going to be bloody hard to shut down our midfield (when they're on) so we have wriggle room with the forwards.

We won't get a Joe, but we won't need a Joe.

Given fagan knew Joe was going who did we play s forward in the 2s? Smith? They surely were preparing this year.

Was that on trade radio yesterday?
