Ludowyke looking better this quarter kicks the sealer after a big mark

Duursma playing midfield this quarter, surprisingly versatile

I don’t think we should be trading our future first, the top end looks stronger next year (Sharp, Duursma, Ludowyke, Greeves, Onley, Dalton, duff-tytler, hetherton, Josh lindsay)
We need to get aggressive to fast track things, we can always trade back in next year.

I’d consider a future first for SDK who is young so will be there for a decade and can impact now

But wouldn’t do it for Houston

The only way I’d go get Houston is if we split 2 and gave the latter pick for him

7 goals in the 1st quarter of the Grand Final.

4 from small forwards (2Lohmann, Cameron, Papley)
2 from midfielders (McCluggage, Rowbottom)
1 from a medium forward (Hayward)

Draft. Small. Forwards.
Hypothetically, if we did split 2 for Hannaford and Berry, and Armstrong and Shanahan are gone by our pick 22, which KPF would you go for next?

Grinds my gears that we didn’t go Watson last year.

I like Jack Whitlock and Jonty Faull a lot - Whitlock because I think he has the best hands and Faull because I think he's the best defensively and does a great job battling when at a disadvantage. I don't see Armstrong and Shanahan as that far ahead of them and actually have Jack Whitlock as my top rated key forward in this crop.

Appreciate it mate. Got any inkling which out of Whitlock and Faull would be ready for senior footy first? Dunno what either weigh, but the eyeball test suggests the former is 15kg and the latter 10kg under optimal size?

Whitlock has the fitness base, height and leap to potentially impact from the start but he's probably 8-10kg off ideal weight.

Faull's aggression and willingness to compete in the air and ground level will mean he can offer something from the beginning. He's also only like 4-5kg off an ideal weight. My worry with Faull is I think he has some work to do on his tank (he didn't test pre-season so I don't have numbers, national combine will help clarify this)

I'm not sure Lohmann is a small Forward at 6 foot.

I don't really class small forwards by their height (I don't think many do), as stupid as that sounds. It's the role he plays.

Apply defensive pressure in the forward half and get to the fall of the ball particularly in f50 contests to try and impact on the scoreboard.

Or just gett forwards who can kick goals. Some days your tall forwards will get all the goals while your smalls create pressure.

Sydney has a dysfunctional/non-existent fwd line and we see the result (so far).

Adding to that: mediums and talls able to clunk contested marks heading up the ground has been huge for the lions.

Plays as a small with his defensive pressure and repeat efforts though.
I agree with you with the pressure definitely not trying to be smart because i respect both of you very much so when would a small forward not become a small call them a medium What would you class Curtis as for us.

I don’t have the answers re:trade vs keep future first.

Just using the most recent premiers as a case study, I would like to know how many years of wallowing and picking up top 10 picks it took before they began trading/FAing in the likes of Cameron, Bailey, Dunkley, Neale, Daniher, Ah Chee, McCarthy et al?

Now I know they have the benefit of being the OG Qld expansion club, that the AFL has a vested interest in their success, that they had Brownlow quality players such as Neale wanting to move there. They also have been kissed on the proverbial from FS with Fletcher, a Norm Smith medalist (2nd year player), and very probably a better version of him coming to the club for free this very draft.

Still, it would be interesting to plot the drafting, trade wrangling and FA acquisitions based on their finish by year and see how we stack up.

How many of these were traded for a top 4 pick?

Clue: Not even the 2x brownlow medalist.
