right so now we're moving the goalposts to literally only count picks between 18-38 and nothing else

If you refer to my initial post, I said 2nd rounders. So what’s moved?

If I were to suddenly include the rest of the draft, wouldn’t that be called as you like to frame it “moving the goalposts?”

(Which you effectively did by bringing up Chandler and Mcvee when my post was about 2nd round picks)

Comical that this might actually happen.

I reckon he will leave us for Brisbane or Gold Coast in a few years for some random ****en reason. He feels destined to have a bizarre career.
I wouldn't discount the chance he takes year or two off to go surfing in Fiji, hike the Pacific Crest Trail and start a yacht rock band in Budapest before coming back to the game.

Says in the article Jackson has significant off field issues. Perfect for us then link him up with Oliver
Related to family drama, very different to Oliver's situation

Really? Seemed to be inferring that's why he wanted to return to Melbourne
Yeah, major beef between him/his partner and his family. I'm not really rumour-mongering here, as a lot of it played out publicly on social media.

Righto so he breaks up with the missus and then wants back to Perth again in a couple years. Classic lol

I'm all in on getting that dopey campaigner back to the club.

Imagine danster working across the Kozzy AND LJ threads. JACKPOT
haha, I wouldn't take LJ back. Seems like a bit of a beta move. So Jackson would be our 2nd ruck for 3 years until Gawn is finished and we'd have 2 guys in Jackson and Van Rooyen up forward who can't mark to save themselves?

I mean Jackson is a gun and I guess I'd do it. I'm just not excited about it.

Luke apparently bought his mum a nice house in a nice suburb when he returned to Freo while he rented. Luke gets a girlfriend and she says his family are leaching off him. Luke wants to sell the house saying he can’t afford it but mum and family refuse to move. Luke buys an apartment where his Dog was apparently left there when he was in Melbourne in the offseason and his brother or friend had to get the dog out and looks after it.

Luke’s friends apparently siding with the family, the spat all played out on Facebook (flagmantle page maybe?) but has since been deleted.

New favourite post unlocked

The two picks Melbourne used that we traded to them were Jefferson and Caleb Windsor. Both look like absolute stars.

Man how much more can the fans of this club take ?

I forgot about Rivers when I said 7-8 years.

Mcvee and Chandler weren’t 2nd round picks.

So one decent 2nd round pick in 7-8 years then. Big ****ing whoop. Let’s get out the crackers and party like it’s 1999.
FWIW, these are the 2nd round picks that we used in the past seven years. Make of it what you will.

Rosman is the only one that isn't still on an AFL list.

2018 27, Sparrow 33, Jordan

2019 32, Rivers

2020 34, Rosman

2021 39, Howes

2022 38, Adams

2023 None

2024 None

Then you look at the average career games played by each of those draft picks:

#27 (Sparrow): 67.5. I don't like him as a player, but relatively speaking, the pick is still a hit as he's played 104 games and is only 24. ✅

#33 (Jordon): 69.7. Didn't work out with us, but has become a very good role player at Sydney. Already at 100 games as a 24-year-old. ✅

#32 (Rivers): 66.1. Huge win at this spot. ✅

#34 (Rosman): 59.9. Bust. ❌

#39 (Howes): 55.7. Uninspiring player, but could still pass the average game mark. Jury out.

#38 (Adams): 45.4. Jury's out, but starting to show some promising signs.

While it's a rather arbitrary way to assess the success of a pick, it still gives a decent indicator. Taylor's hit on at least three of those six picks (and as many as five, depending on the next few years).

Not every second rounder is a Sam Taylor, Shai Bolton, Chad Warner, Bayley Fritsch or Errol Gulden type. In fact, if you consider the last five drafts before this year (as nobody from 2024 has played 10 games yet), 39 out of 80 (48.8%) players drafted between 25 and 40 have played less than 10 AFL games. It's a crapshoot

Good writeup and I agree, 2nd round picks success rate is lower than you'd think

Gulden also an Academy pick so not a true 2nd round pick like the others.

Not sure if mentioned already, but the 'Gettable' boys have us linked to Miles Bergman.

I still think the Gawn and Grundy experiment didn't work because Grundy is a terrible footballer, Jackson is way better than Grundy imo. You still missed my very first point when I said I'm not advocating a trade for Jackson.
Jackson plays small as a 6'6" ruck. He might get better... but I don't think this is what we need.

We do NOT need two 1st Rucks at the same time... right now And young Will Verrall is starting to grow into his frame.

We need to recruit a Follower/Tall forward, who is mobile, and a strong pack-mark of the footy.
lJ does not meet this need.

I never said we should recruit Jackson

Was another Lamb special. Went hard for Reid, but reality is WCE were never trading. Then we end up with this guy lol. Tholstrup looks so far from AFL level it's laughable.
While I'm not a huge fan of hReid after his antics over the past 2 seasons... I reckon he'll be a big headache for any club to sort thru... see Stringer type.

I would say, I would much prefer to have a go at hReid, than lJackson.

I reckon maybe somebody like sDraper could fill the role. What do you think, Sugar?
Hes mobile, can play a bit like the old TMc around the ground taking marks, he can pop up anywhere in the forward 50 and mark the footy and is a reliable kick for goal.
He is balanced kicking field kicks to advance the footy forward, to teammates.

AND.... he's a free agent... and won't cost us the world.
