C4 saying his preference is to get home to port, how goods his ITK status?
That isn’t new information. Everyone knows he is homesick and everyone knows Port is his preference.

If Port had picks 3 and 4. This would be an entirely different conversation.

But they don’t and they have little currency as it is. It isn’t the smoking gun anyone will think it is.

So we have an ITK stand off

New thread (part 2) so I'll restate my case:

  • the father-son rule adds nothing to the game. No one watches because of it. No other league in the world worth anything has it. It only entrenches disadvantage (better teams are more likely to have 100 game players). All based on dumb, stupid luck: the ability for past players to sire sons. It's ridiculous on face value.
  • The only fair price is the cost of acquiring the draft pick necessary in a mutually agreeable trade. Richmond couldn't pick Ashcroft last year under any circumstance. North couldn't pick Sam Darcy in 2021 under any circumstance. A team that had just made the grand final had exclusive access to one of the best two players in the draft. If the club wants a player, they should have to trade for that draft pick.
  • The NGA academies never added anything. Abolish.
  • The northern academies do benefit the league as the game needs to grow and those clubs need homegrown heroes. But the cost can't be made fair. So a compromise: one pick each year outside the draft for those four clubs.
  • I would make these changes along with a significant further increase in the salary cap, a percentage cut in the salary floor, a reduction in years for free agency rights to kick in, and a removal of the prohibition on players vetoing trades.
Dont agree on one pick each outside the draft for those 4 clubs.they can keep the acadamies but those kids should be available to all clubs to draft . Thats a fair system that benefits all clubs imo

I thought a lot believed the delay in his extension was just money related.

If he wants to get home and it can't be done so he's stuck with us, still not ideal.

The entire issue is that he is homesick and his family wants him home. If we were based in SA he would have already signed with us.

It isn’t new information. It’s been discussed at length. Unfortunately a deal has to be done and as discussed a trillion times. Even if we take a haircut on return. It’s still significant assets they don’t have.

In other news … RTB & AB might be about to have a win.

More to this, all current FS should have to be put back on the market. All the WB, Collingwood, and Lions should go into a special draft and be redistributed.

I know it will never happen, but what an amateur joke FS is. But the rOmAnCe. Let's see how romantic it is when they have to pay with 1 or two frdps for them.

Apologies for quoting myself, but I forgot one thing: re-instatement of the automatic priority pick for winning under 6 games.

If C4 is correct in his update it gives me some hope we will not get completely screwed in a trade and Nas won't request a trade unless there's a trade the club is semi-happy with. I have zero idea how a trade is possible that satisfies us, but its a thing I guess.

Only way it happens is if someone goes hard for Butters (or Bergman is involved).

Ok well it's clear the hold up here is then, and it's not us

Lets realistically nut out Port's options here.

From what I understand, they must take a pick within the 1st round this year as they've only taken 1 pick in the last 3 drafts, 2025 this is the 4th year (https://www.afl.com.au/news/98315/the-future-pick-puzzle-trading-rules-explained)

Port's first picks:
2022 draft; Pick 36
2023 draft; Pick 48
2024 draft; Pick 15

Currently, they hold #26, 44, 62. They traded out their 2025 first rounder to GC in the Jack Lukosious package

They need to find a first round pick for themselves, otherwise they will be penalised

clubs must make at least two first-round selections in each four-year period or face restrictions from trading any further first-round draft picks

I am unclear how the above would then effect their access to their 2026 NGA prospect Doug Cochrane who is currently projected to be a top pick in 2026

So Port NEED:
2025 1R for themself to avoid penalty
And at least 2 top 10 picks for us (as a starting point)

And GC is not an option as you can't trade your original pick back

Port will need to offload more than just Butters to satisfy all the requirements
OR get permission from the AFL to skirt that rule above AND convince Nas and Ben Williams to **** St Kilda on the way out. I would be surprised if Nas did that to the club and the players, but I guess that can be the nature of business.

Which then begs the next question, would the AFL tick off Port to bend the rule for this occurrence to then allow them to inadequately compensate us?

His rise has done wonders for his contract, but kind of hamstrung Port a bit without a bit of external help.

Our best hope is Port can't realstically adequately compensate and he reasons with a 2 year deal and we go again

Berry is of interest, but would be a supplement to two mediocre 1st round DPs
Whitlock has no value beyond where he was taken

What a crock of shit.

“It’s good for him, it’s good for his family… we’ve got a real battle on our hands”

Not about general development bs but about contract.

Then next question on love for Nasiah

“Hopefully he has a heart” meaning hopefully it IS something that helps sway him.

Nas is already gone. Can bitch and moan but it’s actually about what Ross does with the team next year. He’ll find a way I’m sure.
This. NWM is gone 😭

My footy emotions have never yoyo'd so much over a prolonged period as they have with the Nas saga.

Whatever happens with Nas, if we dont have Pou signed up prior to round 1 next year I don't know what I'll do. I can't take a third year of this.

Can't remember who had the 500-1 Brownlow bet on NAS but he is coming in quickly.

I just did a quick game by game scan and I don't think it is unreasonable for NAS to be on 27 votes already. Probably need well into the 30s to beat Diacos, but sometimes blokes cop a rough year from the umps.

If NAS gets another couple of BOG's from here he is a sneaky chance.
Hey Bill
I backed Nas at 500's after round 4 this year - mentioned it a couple of weeks back. was hoping he would get 50+ possies in the remaining games.

I think there was someone else as well that backed him at a similar number.

Cashout increasing by the game

What is wrong with these grown men all being 'homesick' while getting paid millions of dollars to kick a football?

I find it incredible, they aren't being sent to the other side of the planet. You never hear soccer players demanding to be sent home from Europe or Asia because they are 'homesick'. Jesus Christ how much different is Perth to Brisbane or Melbourne to Adelaide?
What a load of baloney this homesickness rubbish is. Might have washed when they were getting 200k a year as a top contract, not when everything is a mill plus nowadays.
Funny how you never see rookies getting homesick if they are picked up and make it. Or MSD pick from.interstate.

As for Butters being homesick, have you ever been to Darley. Adelaide must be some almighty hellhole if thats the case.

Most cloistered, spoiled selfish footballers that there has ever been. Homesick 🙄. Tell that to FIFO worker with families who they see for a week a month or others struggling to make ends meet.
These current day footballers are really mumma's boys by the sounds.

But they are not. It is an excuse to get rich and play where they want under the constraints of the draft and trading rules.
