Just my opinion, but if the club is trying to snare Liam Ryan, I believe it's because they see him as upgrade on Butler and that Max Hill is going to be mainly a midfielder going forwards.

Also, Ryan is a marking, leading small forward more than a crumbing small forward. If we get everyone on the park, there would certainly be plenty of options and versatility.
Agree - Ryan is definitely an upgrade on Butler but he's such an aerial threat that a forward line with guys like King, Marshall/TDK, Ryan, Higgins and Sharman would be versatile and extremely unpredictable.

Not to mention he would offer valuable coaching/mentoring to Collard and Henry as two other young forwards from WA

I’m a bit worried about the chips in approach to be honest

We’ve barely beaten Essendon Richmond North and Melbourne and were the only team to lose to the Eagles.

Just need to keep drafting properly and building the list
Exactly 💯
Mini pou or key forward
Fincher
Keep our draft capital we still have holes and question marks on the list
Two more drafts away
TDK is a no brainer
Aleer depending on the pick future 2nd is a no brainer

Agree, I really liked what I saw. I think in another 2 or 3 years he could develop into something Gawn like.

Look I think most of us like what we see in Dodson. Personally, I would rate him as the best young ruck prospect we have drafted in since MacEvoy or Everitt.

However, do we really want to put all our eggs in Dodson coming good, just when we hope that our team should be really good? He may, or may stagnate.

If he does progress like we hope he will we can either play TDK and Dodson in a dual ruck set up, or we can trade one. It will be a good problem to have.

At present the 19 year old Dodson needs to build his strength and ruck craft.

Ryan is no leader on field or off field
We already are paying Hilly for that
If you want standards to drop get Ryan
But, I would suggest eagles would want a late first/second rounder
Ryan won't shift the needle amd will cost us draft capital and salary cap
Averages less than a goal a game since 2021

No no, he's in at the centre bounce. Or didn't you hear the news that we signed him for 2 more years?!

It's interesting because our interest in TDK from recent info has reduced slightly probably due to NAS contract and the improvement of dodson
Dodson looks like an elite/ a grade ruck
He is an urgent signing

Absolutely the reason why we shouldn't get him
Got into a fight in freo in the off season
On field, off field, performance and output are all red flags with ryan

just on this. his missus was attacked. he didnt provoke it.

The one concern I would have is that Ryan is not a great pressure player.

Our forward line pressure has been a significant issue at times. King, Sharman don't really provide anything in this area and need improve.

Higgo has improved greatly in this area and we know what Owens' work-rate is like.

I'm sure the recruiters would know what they are getting with Ryan though and he actually marginally averages more tackles than Higgo.

Dougal still very important for us and has plenty left in him, been unlucky this year. Big preseason for Aleer if he comes to establish himself. I think you can have a dual strategy by recruiting well and still building through the draft. I think the draft capital it will cost for the incoming players won't mean we have to go full chips in. Feels very different to 2019 to 2020 where we really had no serious blue chip stocks emerge yet outside of probably King, Steele and Marshall and had to sell off our draft capital get solid c+ to b graders in (bar Higgins who is now an A grade small fwd).

As long as Dougal's body isn't cooked, I'd give him a one year deal on minimal money as back up for full back.
I would give him a one-year deal and probably play him, to be honest, if he is fit.

He is still our best full back, IMO.

Aleer, Hammer (if used as a defender) and Dougal will be all be healthily competing for positions alongside Wilkie and probably Tauru (also if used as a defender).

Think it highly unlikely that we made an offer to the contracted Liam Ryan given what RTB said last night about enticing someone on a contract. Sounds like BS to me.

The way the media is going, I for one cannot wait until we're inevitably linked with Jamarra Ugle-Hagan.

And by linked, some journos gonna come out and declare that we've DEFINITIVELY offered him a 10 year extension on 1.9m per year based on him liking a instagram post. We'll need a new thread here as well, happy days

No it wasn't his Mrs it was her friends
WAPOL and afl integrity unit confirmed this.
The optics were not a good look but despite the video and some haymakers ryan was trying to deescalate the situation
Regardless, I would be trading high draft capital for a 30 yr old in 2026 inconsistent forward averaging less than a goal a game since 2021

I am not a big buyer of Liam Ryan given he is 28 and contracted but we need more class and speed in the front half. I would have preferred a 4+ year younger option but it’s is a position of need if we want to move up the ladder. Our small forwards are a 1 man Higgins band at the moment.

On Liam Ryan...

Regardless of whether he'd be an asset, with TDK coming you'd think the front six +1 would include King, Marshall, Sharman, Owens, Higgins, Hall and... a pressure forward. Is Ryan a pressure forward or more like Max Hall or Jack Higgins?

I don't think we're bringing in TDK to play small. Sharman on a third defender, Owens on a fourth... good luck. I can see that plan. Not sure I see it with Liam Ryan, although happy to receive more information.
Our forward line isn’t good enough. Can’t see all of King, Marshall, Sharman and Owens playing in the same forward line.

Our small forward stocks are bang average outside of Higgo. Max is a high half forward and will be spending half his time in the midfield and on the wing. Butler only good enough when he is performing really well.

I am not big on the Ryan move specifically but we need better small forwards than we have now.

Not even 24hrs have passed and the boots are already in, kicking us for having two of the highest paid players in the league

$18.3m Saints fear over plan to have AFL’s TWO highest-paid players

This is exactly why we need to march to the beat of our own drum.
  • Lose NAS and we'd get shat on by the media
  • Can't sign big free agent, get shat on by the media
  • Actually sign a big free agent, get shat on by the media
  • Raise the complete unevenness of the draft/trade landscape, get shat on by the media
Literally cannot make them happy. ****'em all I say
