Problem is with the money we spend on a ruck making him the second highest paid in AFL history will we have the ability to retain and attract when we dont have the cap
We will front load it.
Marshall probably has another 2 seasons in him.
Worst comes to worst, if /when Dodson becomes our superstar ruck in 5 years time, TDK will have 2 years left and if necessary can be traded.
He’s the move we had to make now to lift us above treading water, and to try improve rapidly while we still have the likes of Wilkie, Steele, Sincs around.
There’s always an element of risk.
But as AB said, we are not going to die wondering.
Aren’t you sick of mediocrity?

So many exaggerations & embellishments that I don’t know where to start.
Time will tell, regarding all the opinions in this thread. Mine, yours and everyone elses.

Feel free to keep receipts.

If I'm wrong, I'll be happy to admit it- I'm closer to the mark more often than I'm further away, so I'll back myself and it won't worry me if I'm wrong on this occasion.

Or we just take the rational, conservative approach that has been proven a multitude of times in sports with more free agency than AFL. Not to mention AFL itself.

That is, spend your money wisely.

Focus on developing and retaining those you have.

I can't think of any sporting examples where teams bring in someone who isn't already a superstar, make them the highest paid player in the league, and go on to have huge success.

Except maybe Tom Boyd at the Bulldogs.
So slowly does it.
In the meantime we lose all our experience and leadership in Marshall, Sincs, Wilkie, Steele, Wood, Hill - all our elder statesmen and are left with an entire team under 25.
At some stage you need to round out the team, while still going to the draft which we’re doing. Salary cap will continue to increase and in the meantime we are using no draft capital in this case.

Haven't you got some pearls to go and clutch?

You see St Kilda throwing a monumental cash-load at some guy who's never made AA40 or finished top 5 B&F, and you think his acceptance increases the Saints reputation as a destination club.

And you think I'm the one clutching pearls

I asked a mate who barracks for North and he said they need a defensive midfielder badly. Get murdered on transition and from stoppage if they lose it.
I would have thought that's coaching but there you go.
Surely Windy doesn't want to play a defensive mid role anymore?

Seriously, if SOS lets Windy leave, he can follow him out the door. Give him the years he wants, find a compromise with the cash. Marcus is the glue in so much of our good work, has a great attitude and will probably end up in the leadership group if not the captain.

Saints fans need to show him the love too! This cheering for Nas on the 7th minute of the game, lets hear cheer for Windhager on minute 2 and show him he's loved at St Kilda.
I suggest at the 2 minute mark we all give this two finger salute to support Windy

We are spending 4.7mill on 3 players
NAS 2 mill
TDK 1.7 mill
King 1 mill
If, a club like us has to offer large sums to attract players we won't be able to outbid other Vic clubs and pay overs for flanders
We can match some bids
Just not enough to get the signature
Meh, I'm sure we could find the money in the cap if needs be. I don't think we're done spending yet

We don't have to offer lots of $$$ to Flanders. Just a spot in the best 22
