Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Free Agency Period: Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

Don't agree. He has shown he can be a lot more than that.

I think it is a bit disingenuous to call Windy a b grader. It's like a definitive statement like he will ALWAYS be a B grader.
Hastie, Wilson, Travaglia, Tauru, Hall, Garcia, Boxshall etc could all be called B graders currently, doesn't mean they will stay b graders.
Used to justify someone's argument in my opinion. TDK was a champ according to Carlton supporters but suddenly he is a b grader, same with JSOS when leaving.
Don't know why the club wont come to the party, obviously they don't rate him the way the supporters seem to.

If windy walks and he leaves a noticeable gap that needs replacing next off season, people will applaud the club for being aggressive and overpaying for a 27yr old to come in

If he walks why can't we get something this off season?

I can't comprehend WTF the club see in Aleer. Of all the finals games I watched since last Thursday he is by far and away the most limited defensive footballer that ran around.

HTF do they think they can turn this loping slow skeleton into an intercept star. He can't read the play and is way too slow to make up for it and remain with his opponent.

We are hopelessly undersized in defence so I see Aleer as a good pick up. Howard’s body is so fragile that we can’t possibly bank on him playing every week and Barrett still looks miles off it. With Aleer, JSOS, Wilkie and Howard we have a much better look to the back 6. Also frees up Camineti and even Tauru to play forward if required. King Marshall, Camineti/Tauru and Sharman gives us some decent height in the front half. Add Higgo and Ryan and it looks genuinly threatening. This year it was Sharman and Higgo or bust.

He has us over a barrel due to other offers. $200k over perceived value per season isn't breaking the cap. Paying $1.7 million for a B grade ruck on potential is a huge risk over an 8 year contract.

Even pretending they are the same thing makes us both a bit dumber for having considered it.

Just think windys been undervalued by a lot. Top 5 in our coaches votes who's become a consistent player week in week out. Also seems extremely durable apart from every year vs Essendon in the pre szn. Close with all the young crop too

If we replace Flanders this year no guarantee he's finishes in our top 5 in our coaches votes next year.

I find it real hard to believe anyone is trying to claim we’re better off without windy. We’re never getting an equitable trade outcome.

I can probably cop to “he’s not worth the money” albeit I disagree but after CRYING over a shitful midfield forever we’ve got a consistent heart and soul, gutsy midfield leader and people are like “nah **** him, easily replaced”.

Yes I agree with this. Don't know what we get but a latish first considering the offer. That would give us the opportunity with SC spacecand draft capital to pursue someone else THEY think is more suited.

I hope he stays BTW.

True, however if they ditched Aleer, we would have an extra 700k in the cap to accommodate Windy.
Moot as Aleer is coming by the looks.

He was ok yesterday, the least of GWS issues, just didn't impress and looks like a gangly yearling with legs splaying everywhere while being a bit unco, with little idea on positioning.

Would be ok if he was 18 and clueless ...... but not 24

I am happy to call him a B-grader .... he is a very honest foot soldier .... what you see is what you get .... he is not a bad player ... far from it ..... but he is nowhere near the top echelon and has no traits that really stand out to set him apart

Even as a tagger he has been out played numerous times

23 games this year and oniy in 7 did he get 25 disposals and above .... in 8 games he had less than 20 .... averaged 4 marks per game (only took 1 contested mark all year) and averaged 3 tackles ...... and kicked only 4 goals & 8 goal assists

172 contested possession to 335 uncontested and averaged less than 3 clearances a game ... this surprised me

That shouts B-grader to me

Anyway it would be cool if he stays but I can see others going past him and maybe he can see that as well

If leek is in on $s and not a bargain then Marshall must be out the door unless we got the Intel on interchange rules. Fitting all the talls in without sacrificing forward pressure is a challenge

It's not accommodating anyone, it's the fact Tauru could become a star forward so getting Aleer in to fill the void of a roaming interceptor allows for that

Just because we have money, doesn't mean we stop being smart with it. It sounds hypocritical since we are forking out 1.7 for TDK, but as I said before, that's the cost of not only extracting a star player from a rival club, but also keeping our first rounders while doing it. It's different to overpaying a role player purely because he 'wants' it

Those guys not being best 22 is kind of my point, we've seen some nice glimpses from them but now they need consistency at AFL level. That is made harder when Windy is in the team - who absolutely deserves it but its not a big loss if he leaves especially when the opportunity cost is keeping him on 800k

If every player wanted 150k more, it would cost us 6.6 million.
Better to think we are saving 800k x 4 if he walks
