If that is the strategy, we are being too smart by half.
Have we learned nothing from the Battle scenario? FAFO big time.
So we keep playing handball and say want more sign on for longer. He can look at Port and think, similar money AT HOME over the same years.
We are forcing his hand and it may be to go home. If its not about money as you keep saying why would he be forced to stay?
He isn’t getting paid $2m a season.

He is getting paid $2m in a front ended contract. Caro explains that our offer matches the offers in the table.

Didn't mention $, as apparently that doesn't matter to him. So why sign on for 5 years if he can get the same at home, where he eventually wants to end up?

Most media personalities are ex players who have an alignment with a team & can't be unbiased in their views, they would like to see St Kilda fail or in their words be irrelevant to be able to keep their sides at the top end of the ladder.

If we became successful enough it would mean some of these sides currently doing well won't be because when sides rise someone must fall & be replaced.

I would of thought clubs like Carlton or Essendon would of been a bigger story then us, as the both haven't been successful since the draft or academies have come in last flag year 2000 for Ess & 1995 for Carlton so the so called big clubs still can't win a flag or even a final in Essendons case.

I feel like this has been covered to death.

Ideally, he plays in SA.

He loves the club and wants to stay, so will give us 2 years to become a football club that is strong on field - which should hopefully surpass his desire to be living around his family.

Nas has agreed to staying - that’s a key part to this.

The issue is his agent.
Who wants TDK money or close to for Nas.

That’s not an issue on face value. It’s an issue that his agent is wanting us to dig further in our pockets without the same contract commitment.

TDK, Aleer + early pick.
Full season of King and Pou.
There's no reason why we can't bounce next year
+ the natural growth & development of our young core against the decline of our older players

+ what will probably be the biggest factor in terms of bounce: bottom 6 team fixturing

Anyone who has watched us year long know that despite ladder placement, there’s not that much between us and most top 8 sides.

The only thing I’m weary of, is can we grow fast enough to keep up with sides like Gold Coast and Brisbane who have massive influxes of high quality players? The case against that is GWS for the last decade has underperformed relative to list quality.

Anyway, sure up the forward line & continue development of mids: nas, Phillipou, Garcia etc and we’ll not only bounce up but we’ll stay up.

Some of these player managers are their supposed clients' worst enemies.

There is no world in which it is in Wilson's interests for his dirty laundry with the senior coach to be aired on TV. It is utterly detrimental in every sense - to the relationship between Wilson and Ross, to the relationship between Wilson and his team mates, and to his ability to find some form. But, of course, Wilson is about to enter contract negotiations and his form is shite, so his manager is trying to extract some leverage. Wilson should sack him.

Notice you didn’t say 10’s because we started a rebuild got wowed by winning a few more games than expected in 2016 and decided to stop trying
The juggernaut became a flagnought

Well… the Bont has signed with WB, feels like everyone in the comp bar NAS, Hall and windy have locked in or committed to their respective clubs.. surely it’s an epic group signing the club is waiting for, what on earth could sos be doing behind closed doors

I hope you are correct, but you say it all like it is a fact.
NAZ has not said he wants to stay, we don't know what the manager is doing, nobody in the media know what is going on, none of his mates know either, see Jase Burgyone's presser when he resigned.
I admire your confidence and I understand your narrative is put together by what had been said and media reports by some, and by the obvious observation that we have $ to spend, but it is all speculation, until there is a definite, yay or nay, I and everyone else will be completely uninformed.
I really hope you are correct and he signs for at least 2 years and you can say I told you so.
Until then I will be sceptical about playing games/hardball with arguably the best player in the league.

He still has a year to run on his contract so not sure if it's manager issues.

What pisses me off about this is that its absolute hearsay, probably stems from Wilson being frustrated with his own form more then anything and someone deciding to message the purple ******* with their "scoop".

So what happens? Absolutely nothing except now internally Wilson will have to have a sit down with the coaching panel and player relations people and make sure that everything is alright, work out issues etc.. that likely aren't there but "damo, whose a giant campaigner of a person" doesn't give a shit about the stress this would cause a 2nd year player who absolutely would not have intended, IF he even said anything, to make his coach look bad.

Part of good journalism is deciding if your story has any genuine public interest and if its ethical to run with. This fails both tests, its neither something anyone genuinely should care about in a 2nd year player being dropped for average form, and does nothing but antagonise the people involved needlessly.

Wilson deserved to be dropped. End of story.

Well it should be.

But we now live in a precious everyone gets a trophy world and the pandering to players will only continue to increase imo.

I'm not saying there's validity to boofhead's "story", but I'm noticing a trend.

As far as Nas goes, it's all well and good to just say it's all on my manager but at some point he needs to step in and say I'm ready to sign, regardless if almighty big brother champion says you can bleed 'em for a bit more.

In fairness to Nas though, the narrative around him grows by the week. When you've got Buddy Franklin saying you're one of the top few players in the comp, that will get him thinking, along with (as I and others have said before) the money being offered to players outside the club.

I wonder if 1.4 would have had him signed up 3 months ago. In business making early solid decisions (I'm talking about the club here) can often produce a better result than trying to be too clever.
Wilson might have deserved to be dropped, but probably not before Byrnes & Jones.

And why make up some dumb story about Darcy really wanting to play VFL to find form, it's just deflecting the fact that we were blaming and dropping kids for our poor form while we kept playing mature shit-trucks.

100% on Nas, we should have made him an offer far too good to refuse 12-18 months ago. We had the money, he was already a gun but SOS & Gubby were too busy giving each other golden showers.

If that is true, NAS should leave. Simply "matching" the long term deal is insulting given what we are willing to pay TDK.

Most players would realise you have to overpay players to get them in--especially when it's St Kilda and it's free agency. It's the same with everyday jobs, the person coming into a law firm, for example, is likely paid more than the faithful battler who has been there for 5 years.

Unfortunately, we have to overpay to keep him in this scenario. He is out of contract, he likely wants to be in SA.

Whilst I understand your point, nobody likes working with a less talented person on a truckload more coin.

1.4m a year long term is rubbish money for what he offers.

Edit: I would be going back to TDK and be saying we are going to lose NAS because of the deal we tabled to you. Yes, we are morons but 1.4m is all we can afford. Offer NAS 1.7m.

If TDK spits the dummy at that, then he can go crawling back to Carlton and accept 1m a year.

Nas is not completely devoid of responsibility for "what his manager wants".

Just wait till whatever club pays Harley Read $20,000,000 starts re-negotiating with the better players on their list 😱

Wilson has some weapons but is the softest player in the team, including Hill.

He needs toughen up and learn to straightline the ball, not be so tentative.

Seems like the rumour mill is that NAS in theory is happy to stay for 2 more years and his manager is holding out for TDK money.

Does anyone object to that? I personally don’t care what $ we have to pay him. If it costs 1.7 rather than 1.4 for 2 years then do it! My logic is that he’s giving us 2 years to show that we are actually on the up and will surge up the ladder. 2 more years.. he might not even want to go home after that!

Not sure I’ve ever been so invested in a player leaving/ staying. Battle I liked but when I knew we’d get pick 8, cya Josh!

I have a feeling we will know one way or the other this week, with his manager coming to Melbourne tomorrow. Get it done Saints!
