I think that if pushed, Port would let Butters go for pick 10, and the 26+27 first round picks (but if I'm Port I'm not doing that - was more my point). What they then do for Nas I'm not really sure. You guys know his value more than I do, but if Port came to you with Pick 10, two 26 firsts and a 27 first then I think that puts it close.

Dunkley won our best and fairest and whilst not our best player, and clearly not to the level of Nasiah, we still had to accept pretty ordinary bread crumbs for him. I'm not saying it's fair and I hate the system and how it works but ultimately if you've got a player who is out of contract and wishes to be traded, generally speaking it happens and the team losing the player gets perceived unders for him. If the club receiving the picks drafts well then hindsight will tell you that you didn't get unders, if they don't draft well then it looks bad. We used one of the main Dunkley picks on a player we delisted 2 seasons later, so we look at that trade poorly.

I've been pretty clear that I want Nasiah to remain at the Saints because I like the Saints a lot more than I like the Power, among other sentimental and loyalty reasons, but I'm a realist, if a player wants to leave then the club losing the player just generally gets dicked.

absolute ****ing rocks in your head, if you think this.

there's brain numbingly stupid and then there's your take. i'm now wondering how you managed to even register for an account on this site given it does require some kind of cognitive function.

Said for a while Nas has a say in this. It's all well and good to just say deal with my manager but as you say, at any point he can act in good faith to the club and sign.
I honestly think the money we've offered the likes of TDK has possibly affected the mindset of a few, but still, the point stands.
Been out there throwing around huge offers and saying how much cap space we have to anyone that will listen . and don't expect our player to want some of that

I have no idea if this is sarcasm but it’s a contract that both parties have signed too.
Hall looks to be a gun but this is his first season of real AFL. Hes still very much unproven.

2027 is the expected year that Tasmania come in as well so it makes sense players will wait for that along with Hall to get numbers on the board and establish himself fully.

I have 0 issues with 2 years.

Hall is the second best player at the club in my eyes. His ball use all year has been first rate. Just a matter of finding ways to inject him into the game to get more of the ball going forward.

Look what happened in the last quarter on Sunday. That was largely through Hall. We looked like night and day in the middle when he was in there and was not.

Someone at this event is heavily implying Nas is signing on a deal longer than 2 years.

This person is also a player sponsor of one of our biggest talents.

I hope they are correct based on knowledge that they have gained elsewhere or in a private face to face discussion that they had with someone.

But purely based on today's event in what was said at the microphone in the interviews there were no positive pronouncements on Nas staying. None that he as leaving either, but the way they said things was to me a not full of confidence vibe that he was staying. More that they are trying their best. And Williams was spoken about negatively . Which if it was an almost done deal, why have a crack?.

If Nas had already agreed on signing on a deal longer than 2 years, then based on how they said things and their body language today I would be most surprised.

I mean if you had locked in our best player since Roo to a longer term deal, or even just to a two year deal, then even if you could not say it yet one would be IMO sowing some form of positivity.

Those saying send him to the draft have no idea. If we do that, I can almost bet my life on it he ends up at his choice of destination. No list manager will touch him and rightfully so.

Luke Ball case in point. He stays or he WILL get to his destination of choice whether we like it or not.

i think we would just pick him again TBH

its the PSD you're not wasting a pick.

fair price for NAS would be 2 x top 5 picks one this year, one next (given the acadamies). plus a future first around pick 10.

if they can't make that happen because they dont want to trade anyone out, then we have to take the PSD option IMO. we have the cap space to mean we can meet any contract demand, short term or longer, that NAS will nominate for the PSD.

Don't agree with powders part but i see Gringos point , sitting at the table with that group would not be my thing either , maybe it made Naz and his mum uncomfortable

agree with this. i think it would offend alot of people particularly those from working class backgrounds.

not everything is about money. there is an integrity element here. thats before you look at the history of first nations people and the attitudes many people with wealth have towards them, where you just need to show em some cash and they will do what you want.

Yet we sign an injury riddled King on a forever contract and chase a hot and cold ruckman on the biggest contract in the history of the game.

We seriously to remove Dodo V2.
if will lose NAS he should be marched out the door that day

I hope this gives us cause to remember that the draft will not be our savior. And I think there was a team called North that lost by 100 odd with four top ten picks running around too. And others lost to poachers.

Any talent we pick up and groom will be poachable or vulnerable to sub-par performance.

We need special tactics, on and off-field, and brilliant trades.

100%

its why retaining players is so important. you need to stay competitive or you get picked off. especially if youve been out of finals for the majority of the last 15 years.

I might be in the minority, but contracts longer than 3 years are for players with huge upside or a large body of work to suggest they’re worth the value.

Yes agree. 2 years for a player like Hall is good for both parties.

If Hall continues on his trajectory he gets a major contract next time.

If he was just having a flash in the pan run at present the club is not locked into a long-terms deal.

Personally, I believe Hall is not a flash in the pan. But yes how good he is still unknown. I think he is more likely to be a good long-term player than not though.

I suspect that Hall's manager would prefer it this way, for if Hall continues on with his recent form he will get a monster contract in 2 year's time.

I had a brief chat with Sinclair today and told him that I thought Hall was a lot like him in his ability to make quick good decisions and to then execute that with very good disposals. Mentioned to Sincs that I rated them both along with Nas as the best three in the Club at present in this regard. Now it was a member's function and I was just a random talking to Sinclair, but Sinclair by his response seemed to concur on how good Hall is.

Just taking the p155

Don't know how NWM escapes criticism here and it is all the managers fault.

If it is not about money why is he waiting to sign?
All the talk is squeezing every cent out of the Saints.
To me that is about money and to make the excuse it is all Williams fault is a cop out. NWM can say this minute, 1.4 x 2 is enough, let's get it done, but hadn't.
The manager is doing his client what is best financial and NAZ would take his advice, but also the manager would have to do what his client wants.
Not all and good to assign blame to only one party when there are two involved.
Think I am up to the anger stage of grief.

I dont have concrete information and sometimes my memory fails me. I was under the impression that the Crows did not nominate Keels prior to the draft. Whether that was because they anticipated a top 40 bid or whether they thought he was lazy I dont know - but I'm sure he couldn't have gone to Adelaide due to the lack of nomination. Happy to be proven wrong as I'm only going off second hand info.
You'd be right on nominating (mentioned in the link)

It would be the same as F/S where both parties agree

I also recall most of our posters not expecting him to last until a pick in the 40's
