I get that. Just saying that Jay not including "the saints are confident in retaining their superstar on an X year deal" tells me that this is either the greatest leakproof operation in club history or they genuinely have no idea of he's staying.
Only guessing it’s Because the club have shared that they have been confident before and goal posts have shifted twice.

I would imagine you win more than you lose in other drafts with 3 consecutive picks in the top 10
Most of the time I agree.

Also we did 2 in a row and picked Clark and Coffield.

I really rate your opinion and not trying to stir just saying hitting the draft doesn’t always guarantee success not that any of us want to do that.

Not necessarily

Clark and Coffield say hello

Who is to say we don’t draft Smillie, Travaglia and Tauru ?

Anyway, it’s a pure hypothetical without knowing what picks you would actually have.

Point was more that, if we wanted 3 picks. Then they better all be in this years top 10 where we have control over the demand.

Quote from Mason Wood in the Age after the game:

“‘Nas’ is probably the best player on the planet,” Wanganeen-Milera’s teammate and ex-housemate Wood told this masthead.
“We’ll all play for free, and he can have all the money.
“He’s a family kid, and he loves his family, which is why the pull home is so strong, obviously. But he also loves this footy club … hopefully, [a new contract] gets done at the end of the year.
“He has to do what’s right for him, but he’s super talented and just wants to get better. I can’t wait, if he stays, because he’s going to drive the standards for this football club for the next 15 years.
“He executes under the most amount of pressure and demands high standards of others, and that’s only going to build, and … he’ll have a really strong, positive impact on the group.”

Doesn't this sound like the playing group are still trying hard to persuade him to stay, meaning those rumours he signed for 4 years last week are bs.

Agree 100%.

Keep up the quality posts enjoying reading ur take on things.

While his contract value seemingly is going up game by game, so has his trade capital. Which works in our favour.

I'm going to still hope his managers comments on Gettable are true, that he is likely to stay.

After this game, there's nothing left to see.

The contract from all parties will hit it's max.

The next 4 games won't change anything.

We'll get to enjoy him for the next two years at a minimum.

Have a feeling him staying or going will be the making or breaking of this club.

He signs on, we get TDK, we get Aleer and hopefully I decent injury run with King, Po and even Howard and we start to motor up the ladder pretty quickly. All of a sudden players want to come and play with Nas and King if he can ever live up to his hype along with others.

Salary can be managed if you have the right people in place looking at it.

I'm well over the uneducated opinions of media, oppositions fans and some of our own fans around the TDK effect on Nas' signature.

It has no correlation.

Money isn't an issue here, length of the deal isn't either.

Dropping all ties with TDK right now would not change anything in the slightest.

This times 1000

TDK playing at St Kilda or Carlton doesn’t change the fact that Nas has family in Adelaide.

Don’t understand how people can’t see this.

I think after today we may have priced out both SA clubs from a trade. Unless NWM really wants to force his way out we have every right to demand a ransom they simply can't pay.

It's also worth noting that either way it's been a pretty smart decision for him to hold off signing. Has added quite a bit of value to his contract in the last four weeks.

If money isn't a factor, how come he hasn't re-signed yet, but our ITK's are so confident he stays.

If the ITK's are right about him staying wouldn't that mean they know he's waiting it out to add more money to his contract.

Personally think we're in trouble if the reason he hasn't signed on isn't money related.

I know people say "money isn't an issue" - and that is technically correct. There is more at play here than just money. But there's a reason Tom De Koning is choosing St Kilda, even though he's reportedly very happy at Carlton (and would prefer to stay). Sometimes the money is too good to refuse.

Nas already loves the club. He loves the players and the coaching staff. Do you really believe that if St Kilda came to him tomorrow and offered $2 million a year, he'd still refuse?

Why would he re-sign earlier in the season when we are fighting to keep his services against his hometown clubs? In his last month or two he has increased the value of his contract significantly, well played by his manager and well played by Nas for playing the way he has.

I think you're reiterating my point though?

We can afford the same $$ as what Port and Crows are offering, they are just choosing to front end a deal.

Wood’s comments don’t give me confidence tbh, “end of the year” which usually means they gone, just don’t know how this gets done. It’s like Daicos asking for a trade what would he be worth?

Look I love a good old fashioned sook as much as the next toddler, but I was replying to Teflon's suggestion that our abominable past 15 years has nothing to do with our own incompetence… which is cult-level stupidity.

I'll give you the tip: We royally ****ed recruitment for 18 years straight - that's why we have been floundering for the past 15 years.

Here's a quick recap:

High picks flushed
2003
Pick 8 - Raph Clark
2004
Pick 17 - Andrew McQualter
Pick 33 - Cain Ackland
2006
Pick 27 - Brad Howard
2007
Pick 9 - Ben McEvoy
2008
Pick 13 - Tom Lynch
2009
Pick 32 - Nicholas Winmar
2010
Pick 24 - Jamie Cripps

Then we went for the weight of numbers approach:
2011
Ross, Markworth, Newnes, Webster, Lever, Maister, Dunnell, Shenton, Stayley, Minchington
2012
Tom Lee, Saad, Milera, Wright, White, Murdoch, Saunders, Pierce
2013
Hickey, Longer, Billings, Dunstan, Acres, Delaney, Savage, Curren, Templeton, Weller, Holmes
2014
McCartin, Goddard, McKenzie, Lonie, Saad, Payne
2015
Carlisle, Gresham, White, Rice, O’Kearney, Coughlan,
2016
Long, Battle, Phillips
2017
Clark, Coffield, Clavarino, Paton, Langlands, Pierce, Brown,
2018
King, Bytel, Parker, Hind, Young
2019
Hill, Howard, Ryder, Mayo, Byrnes, Connolly, Bell
2020
Allison, Highmore, Higgins, Crouch, McKernan

Ross, Webster, Steele & Higgins have been good pick-ups to varying degrees, then some success on smokies from the rookie draft: Sinclair, Marshall & Wilkie

On the rare occasions we did select a decent player, we punted them for more scratchies - Stanley, McEvoy, Lynch, Gresham, Acres, Long, Battle

We've used valuable draft capital and/or cap space on: Watts, Lovett, Longer, Lee, Freeman, Hickey, Carlisle, Stevens, Hannebery, Hill, Howard, Jones, Dow, Henry,

Things look better from 2021 but we are still shit because we have SFA to show from the 18 years preceding it, which means our 23 - 35 core is threadbare. This is why we have been shit for so long.

I can count 15 clubs that have either won a flag or have been in a position to challenge for one over the past 10 years, leaving only Essendon, North & us.

Alternatively: It's all Gold Coast's fault. 😭
The pres said in the same speech that he called out the academy and FS system that we haven't been good enough, and we need to be a lot better. You didn't think he was talking about just on field stuff did you?

We ALL know our sins, but acting like the system isnt wrong just because we've also not helped ourselves is some head in the sand bool sheet.

The club has done a lot to make us stronger recently on and off field, when is it going to be OK to criticise a rotten system? When we're in Geelong or Richmond's position?

Seems like you do care lol with the personal insults

Name one great sporting organisation or business that don’t have their own house in order

NGA Players Windy Owens and Fincher this year
Windy and Owens 200 game players and many see Windy as a Captain

Are the Father son rules different for our club ?
We won’t be complaining if the 3 Rewoldt boys Lenny and Dals boys are running around for us

This is Basset’s third reset we have been so poorly run for 15 plus years
The club decisions and management over the last 15 years have done more harm than anything the AFL have done
Manchester United.

To be fair, we have had a few of our ex players have sons, but it seems none of them were good enough and you have to say thats on the club for not having an adequate development program until recently. As usual, money is probably the root obstacle, but its pretty lame that we didn't get one started years ago. Just another wrong the current regime have tried to right.

Yes we've been poorly run, but the AFL have done their bit to keep us down. They pushed us into Waverley, then conned us with the Docklands deal, they watched in silence for decades as we foundered and didn't do anything to help, compared to the help they give suffering clubs now. They favour their high earning clubs, there's no arguing otherwise. We are the redheaded stepchild who has to take what can get, and be thankful no one is talking about reducing the number of Melbourne clubs like they were 10 years ago.
