Yes but this is a rolling AA so we are judging on the first 7 games
Butters has played 3 that’s why he is missing from most posters Rolling AA team
He's played 4 games and is already 6th in the coaches votes. When's the last time a player was sixth in the coaches votes and didn't make the side?

4 of 7 which equates to 13 of 23 games.
When is the last time someone got in to AA playing 13 games.
This is a rolling AA when he’s played 7 of 10 in a few weeks then I’m sure more posters will put him in their team.

Neale was 5th in 2023 coaches votes but didn't make the All Australian team.
SHould be at least 5 genuine centre mids. Two goal kicking mids, two half back mids. Is going to be tight to get in.

Still early days. Brayshaw is #1 for mine to date.

Butters if his form continues.

Midfielders work best with team mates yes. That was a fascinating discovery I made years ago.

Not necessarily. Crawford played at his best as the only good mid in his team. Same with Tom Mitchell.

I normally like to do a "starting 18 from 18 teams" side but its been hard this year with just how bad some of the bottom sides have been. That being said I would try something like:

FB: Dayne Zorko - Jacob Weitering - John Noble

HB: Connor Rozee - Nick Vlastuin - Lachie Whitfield

C: Liam Baker - Tom Liberatore - Zach Merrett

FOL: Tristan Xerri - Steele Sidebottom - Andrew Brayshaw

HF: Christan Petracca - Riley Thilthorpe - Isaac Heeney

FF: Jack Higgins - Ben King - Patrick Dangerfield

Obviously this doesn't accurately reflect the b&f players for each club as it needs to be factored with balancing a fielded team, but I guess it can also show which clubs benefit from which ground positions the most based on gameplan and system.

No, their peak years coincided with their teams poor midfields. They weren't high performers due to being in poor midfields. Brayshaw is playing much better this season than last. Serong was around both times.

No not really.

I can go on. Ablett was at his best at Gold Coast, when he's performances weren't diluted from other star players.

It might seem a bit rogue, but I prefer to pick a side based on the actual roles players perform, rather than stacking it with 12 midfielders and a backline full of attacking half-backs

B: Lachie Jones - Sam Taylor - Max Michalanny
HB: Lachie Ash - Jacob Weitering - Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera
C: Patrick Lipinski - Andrew Brayshaw - Xavier Duursma
HF: Darcy Jones - Jeremy Cameron - Bailey Humphrey
F: Toby Greene - Josh Treacy - Patrick Dangerfield
R: Max Gawn - Matt Rowell - Nick Daicos
I/C: Josh Worrell - Zach Merrett - Steele Sidebottom - Ben Long

You can go on, it doesn't make you correct. You are confusing when a player is at their peak with a cause-effect that doesn't exist. Ablett won 3x Coaches Association Awards and League MVPs at Geelong - 0 and 2 at GC. You seem to forget how stellar he was at the Cats. Regardless, 27-30 years old in the modern game is when many players play their best football.

Why is Brayshaw playing better this year? It's the same midfield. He was also brilliant the year before. 2024 was a relatively down year (good, but not outstanding).

Good or bad midfields it doesn’t matter for true ball winners I think and Ablett proved this. Serong and Brayshaw are tough and can get their hands on the ball no matter the depth of their midfield same as Lachie Neale. Josh Kelly types are the ones that benefit from a good midfield I think as they are the icing on the cake type players. I think Issac Smith for us had a significantly better career because he was on good teams, I don’t think he would of been the player he was with out it, he had to back himself to attack. Don’t get me wrong he would of still been a very good player but he managed to get to star like levels.

GAJ himself has stated that his very best season was 2010, his last season at Geelong.
Thompson snubbing him for coaches votes made sense given they hated each other by then, but I thought the umpires were a little stingy on him as well in 2010.

31.5 disposals, 1.8 goals, 0.6 goal assists, 5.4 clearances, 4.2 tackles and 5.0 inside 50s per game is a comprehensive effort over a year for an attacking midfielder.

Don't think Bont got there. Martin and Dangerfield 2017 were probably similar.
Daicos over the next few years maybe?

Ablett was incredible in both sides

He had a season at Geelong where he averaged:

31.5 touches
1.8 goals
0.6 goal assists
13.2 contested possessions

He had another where he averaged:
34 touches
1.25 goals
0.75 goal assists
13.5 contested possessions

Pretty sure he proved himself in both circumstances.

So many poor choices here. Dawson, whitfield no Idun, Dawson and Merrett arent the best options.Brayshaw on the bench is a joke.

This is why i hate personal selection with heavy bias

Merrett would be the first picked right now.

RCAB im keeping stats.

Not sure why the laugh

Brayshaw was clear number one end round 7. go back and see my top 20 round 7.

I'm laughing because you said that Merrett wasn't the best option.

I said he would be the first picked right now.

Your rebuttal was... "He wasn't no. 1 last week". You understand context and nuance? I don't think you do, that's why I laughed and I presume you'll offer the same stoic response to this post.

OK, so here were the results for today's game, It was a really good game for Merrett, but NOT to the level that would guarantee him the first position in the side.

69 is a really solid score, but a number of other mids are also scoring the same, and Brayshaw has averaged more over his 7 games.

This takes into account ALL relevant stats weighted on previous elite games.
