Max Gawn had a supremely dominant game tonight with 94.5 points which is the second best rated game on my system this season. How does he keep getting better. I've got him clearly out in front.

Smith and Dangerfield locks right now.
Too early for locks. Let's start locking in around round 13-14.

Smith for mine was BOG tonight and definitely making a strong case, but Dangerfield didn't dominate beyond the 5-6 other quality performances tonight. I don't believe enough to put in as a lock. It was a cracking game with a number of high quality performances.

Cal Wilkie surely. Absolutely obliterated Treacy, keeping him to just 6 disposals, and goalless for the first time since 2023, while having 24 disposals (@83% DE), 14 marks, 8 intercepts and 7 score involvements himself.
Understand your reasoning. I Had Wilkie at 43 which is reasonably good for a defender. His score stacks up ok for that position. It's hard to compare mids with defenders and I did watch that game. Macrae and Sharman were clear 1 and 2. The others were reasonable. AFL rating also had him quite low also. Remember this is stat based. I don't have the capacity to measure macro details.

He's doing ok this season. He's not leading in any stat line on the system, but overall is playing well.

Round 8 wrapped up.

My top 20 players. Gawn is unstoppable and #1 by a mile for selection.
Rowell and Brayshaw got exposed which hit them a little bit this week but Brayshaw had some scores banked up.

My team based on positional needs as a priority, then ranked by score.

Two wingers are goal scoring mids. Rankine is technically running mid wing to goal.

Admittedly there are a lot of players closely marked from Jordan Dawson to Hugh Mcluggage so anything can change.

Defenders are balanced for intercepts, spoils and rebound 50s. Although Holmes is scoring much lower overall I could justify adding him on the basis of his work.

Rowell omitted due to such a poor game and having one less game than the others.

I’ll definitely get bias calls here

But Josh Worrell should be up there in consideration for the squad of 44
Not at all. I think Idun has had a slightly more rounded season to date and I have Connor on the shortlist. I think there's still a gap between Josh and the team. There are a lot of quality defenders this season.

Weitering because his CDL is super low and ultra reliable, Taylor is one of the most well rounded defenders and Sicily offers extreme versatility. It's pretty hard to drop in another tall at that point.

I’d have Idun ahead of Worrell. But I think there’s room for both in the 44

I’d have Sicily very close to both Idun and Worrell, at least going off the eye test. IMO will be a good battle for that third defender behind Taylor/Weit

Sicily has been average at best, bad at worst.

My team at the moment would be

FB: Connor Idun, Darcy Moore, Callum Wilkie
HB: Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, Sam Taylor, John Noble
C: Hugh McCluggage, Zach Merrett, Steele Sidebottom
HF: Patrick Dangerfield, Josh Treacy, Izak Rankine
FF: Jack Higgins, Riley Thilthorpe, Paul Curtis

R: Max Gawn, Nick Daicos, Lachie Neale

I: Bailey Smith, Touk Miller, Lachie Whitfield, Darcy Cameron

Going a 2nd genuine ruck as I think DCam has been elite (but cant take Gawn's spot) and don't think 3 key forwards have done enough yet. King leading the coleman but I find Thilthorpe/Treacy seem to impact more around the ground.

My wingers are having great seasons but are playing in the middle but at least they can play there. Just not sure there's an obvious replacement.

Curtis might fall out from his suspension in couple weeks but i hope not as he was my clear #1 small forward.

Gunston is in a rich vein of form. Didn't play Round 1 and 4, started as a sub in round 2.

Currently 3rd in the Coleman.

Can't see him making it all the way to the end of a long season but I'm enjoying the ride.

Lot of old timers like Sidebottom, Gunston and Danger turning back the clock in 2025.

Games against West Coast should not be counted.

Games against West Coast should not be counted.
Is that because Tom De Koning only had 14 disposals (2nd lowest of the season) and 22 hitouts (lowest of the season) against West Coast?

Under no planet is TDK ahead of Gawn this year, that's without considering Cameron but it's close there. Gawn is so far ahead of the next ruck this year.

I’d say Xerri has the best case against Gawn, TDK is a long way behind though.

Danger has basically won 3 games off his own boot - Collingwood, Hawthorn, Adelaide.

Against Melbourne when they briefly threatened a comeback he had 20 touches, 12 contested, and 3 goals.

Even in the opening round against Fremantle he had 2 and an assist.

He’s not on the bench.

Yes of course it may change but 2 goals, 18 possessions and more than half of them contested, 0.7 goal assists, 3 tackles for a half forward. He’s going to take some keeping out of a starting 18 spot and so far has at least 11, probably 12 Brownlow votes given how umpires tend to award them even though coaches etc tend to look at them a bit differently
