The tone of the conversation on Fox was very much along the lines of we’ll have 2026 to figure it all out. Also whilst managers have power like never before they haven’t yet reached a point where they can will players into switching clubs. I’ll be honest of all the current contracts up for debate it’s Mihocek that concerns me most. Clubs will come hard for him, he’s a FA and what we’ve apparently put forward so far is a long way off, IMO.

I am still not sure why fin mcrae wasn’t added to the long term injury list. He is currently listed at 4-6 weeks away. We could have drafted another player on a 6 months contract during the MSD ,who would have been available to contribute.

The player has to be open to it as well. He’s in his last season. Why would he be open to not playing another game? He’d want to play every game he can to try and generate interest for maybe a rookie spot on another team.

Difference being that Noble was a player who was surplus to our needs and a valuable piece in another trade deal.
Cameron is neither of those things, and quite the opposite of the first. It would take a hell of an offer to even get the club to the table at this point.

It's not a smart cultural move to use a contract to force a player to stay when he doesn't want to. I can't imagine us doing it.

I think I have worked out why the Gettable boys have mentioned Darcy Cameron every week this year.
His manager is Colin Young. A strong leaker to Gettable over the years. And a manager who loves to move his players around. Eg Rory Lobb and Brad Hill
Apparently Leppa is playing hard ball and seeing no need to re negotiate- this could get ugly if we don’t come to the table. And Young will continue to leverage the media to put pressure on

Been somewhat shafted into a peripheral role due to their new recruits and it has affected his output.

They don’t need him up forward with guys like Lewis, Dear, Gunston, Chol…

I love a lot of how we’ve approached list strategy in the last few years, but we have to stop with these early extensions of unproven youngsters. Are we scarred from the O Henry trade or something? I am scratching my head as to why we’ve done this for Macrae and DeMattia, now Steene when surely there is no one after them. Feels like part of us being a ‘good employer’ but it tips the balance in the wrong side. Let’s not forget the majority of our best 22 is not there in 4 years time, we need to keep finding new draftees that can contribute at the highest level. When we did it for Nick it made sense, maybe Charlie West could too based on potential and being from SA. Anyone else and it’s to the benefit of the player entirely and not to the club.

Does anyone know what the ballpark figure is that Collingwood want to offer for Cameron or what Cameron is asking?

If Cameron is asking for too much and we don't want to fork out that much on a ruckman again, then I am happy to let Cameron go.

I have changed my tune, and don't believe clubs should (a few very small exceptions like a Gawn) should pay huge money on ruckmen.

We did fine in 2023 when Cameron was just a good solid ruckman. Find another guy that is big and strong enough to compete

The Macrae one is worse.
Demattia, Steene, Ryan are speculative and a bit spuddy.
Macrae’s was an addition extension of a proven bona fide Coliban.

Had ned long and sullivan both made strides earlier, we definitely would have delisted mcrae last year.
