Treloar finishes this year but we are still paying Grundy. De Goey is worth more to us than another team. Gold Coast have a plethora of mids, they will be targeting a reliable KPF and a key defender.
Jordy is the type of player who can play a smaller key forward role in addition to on ball, and would likely be pretty desirable to GC playing that type of game.

Apart from pace what other aspects of the game is Rowell better than Jordy?

To give Jordy as much advantage as I could I used his career best 2023 vs Rowell this season. Rowell comes out on top in several areas.

In terms of career?

Once again Rowell comes out ahead in several areas, namely ball winning and clearances, much like the last comparison. Jordy has the edge in terms of scoring and marks due to his extensive time playing forward of the ball. Rowell tackles a lot more too. Consistency is the biggest one for me though, the gap between Rowells best and worst is significantly narrower than Jordy’s, and he stays on the park, whereas Jordy has always struggled to play a full season and that doesn’t seem to be changing any time soon.

Feels like many here are severely underrating Rowell, he’s been excellent for a long time in a pretty bad side, and he’s looking even better this year in a good one. Is Jordy’s best better than Rowell’s? Probably. But given the inconsistency in seeing that best version of him I’d take Rowell every day of the week.

True. But no one is swapping Rowell for Jordy. No one else is paying him $900k.

We will be keeping Jordy. He is able to perform several roles, and we aren’t interested in paying another fine player to run around in opposition colours. We all agree that we’d be interested in Rowell, and other elite players.

Could Rowell kick the goal degoey did in the granny? Yeah don't think so.
Jog along with the absolutely disrespectful comparisons.

The irony for me in the De Goey vs Rowell debate is that I think we need to pray De Goey is back fit and firing come September if we want to win the flag.

Without him to much will fall on the shoulders of Nick and his ability to impose his brilliance under the weight of a heavy tag and up against the very best opposition (Geelong) in finals it's likely to not be enough.

We need that one two punch combination of explosive midfield options and like Geelong will have if Holmes and Smith remain out on the park (let's not forget Danger either).

On the flipside we all should be desperate to land another genuine A grade midfield star to partner with Nick for the next 8 years and if De Goey doesn't return to full fitness this season that need only becomes greater given the age profile of our list.

Hard to see us landing Rowell without parting with someone we'd rather not lose though that's not necessarily De Goey.

James Hird said on Eddie and Jimmy podcast this week he is hearing strong likelihood of Rowell to Collingwood

Just want to jump onto this because i just listened to the podcast, and your comment generated some discussion on the back of it. I reckon you've taken a bit of poetic license with Hird's view. They were basically discussing the likelihood of Rowell staying, and Hird asked, the "rumours are getting strong aren't they?" without inferring any personal knowledge.

Bartel then gave his case as to why he thinks Rowell will stay, and Hird's response was "you've convinced me", and changed his initial position. Hird was just relaying what we were all hearing, and I think the podcast is recorded a few day prior to release, so this would have been before the latest reports of clubs thinking Rowell is likely to stay. I don't think Hird knows more than us about it, and didn't claim to.

Spot on.

How quickly do some people want to trade away premiership stars?

Bloody funny stuff.

There would have to be more going GC’s way. Rowell is younger, more consistent and less injury prone.

I dislike the idea of losing Jordy as much as anyone, but if you go by the numbers then it makes logical sense to go down that path.

If you stop being emotional about it you’d realise that your post is ridiculous.

I think you’ve also got to give at least a little weight to the player you have vs the one outside the club, just by virtue of them being in the team.

JDG knows and gets on with the players and the coach, and he knows the game plan well.

You can never be sure how long it might take a new player, no matter how good they are, to understand the system and all those little bits that come with just being around the culture for years.

It doesn’t make logical sense at all. Jordy has hardly played since 2023, so his trade value is low. We would have to add considerably more to get the trade done.

Jordy also signed his contract in 2022, so his salary sits well within our cap.

The club won’t trade De Goey because it is a better proposition to get him fit for the final two years of his contract.

You’re confusing people wanting to do it with people accepting that it would probably be what it takes, and realising the odds tell us we’d likely be a stronger outfit overall for a longer period of time if it did happen.

Bloody Twomey and his big fish clickbait. I'm now going to be slightly disappointed if we get rowell as I want Butters or Bont. And if we get no big fish - I'm going to lower lip wobble.

He’s contracted, and I doubt he’d be offered unless GC asks. In which case he’s desirable to them and his value isn’t as low as you’d think.

We’d have to add more, but we’d be looking at getting an 8-10 year player over one who might last another 3-4 if we’re lucky.
