This in spades.

Both NSW and Qld are divided into two areas, split between two teams. That's a massive leg up regardless of how you spin it. There's no qualification that a player must be indigenous or from a migrant background, just that they're in one of the academies.

The other thing that never seems to get mentioned is the fact that the northern teams talk about their own investments into their academies, however that investment comes from distributions made to them by the AFL which is primarily generated by a handful of clubs.

The Saints haven't been particularly nuanced in their approach to F/S and academies, however the points they make aren't any less valid, at least with respect to the academies.

This push back is one that really infuriates me whenever I hear it (Cal Twomey the latest in an article the other week) and for a different reason than you've highlighted.

If Victoria was divided up between just Collingwood and Geelong these same people don't think these 2 sides wouldn't be very happy to pour millions into their own academies also? Turn it up.

As it is now I always find it somewhat odd that Oakleigh is part of our NGA region and yet we've seen NGA players representing the Chargers not being tied to us. I can only assume if they come from a regional area originally like JUH that takes precedent over what U18 side they play for. I also assume that if you come from Metropolitan Melbourne what U18 team you can represent is dictated by what zone you live in or am I wrong?

As it is I thought it was pushing the boundaries of what should be allowed when we had a kid playing in the Victorian U18 competition last year and yet was tied to a Northern club. When does the Northern academy end and the elite Victorian pathway begin?

On principle GWS and the Suns probably should be given a little more leeway (in what form I don't know) as they don't have the same access to F/S prospects but that's not that case for the Lions and Swans as evidenced by their current playing lists.

Great to see someone, who has the courage to voice an opinion, with no regard for the impact on their reputation😜
SR has a reputation?

He won’t be going anywhere grannie, Black & White is in his bones
Yes, but the club may prefer him to move on if they have other plans. One thing we know since Fly came in, we will make list moves and be aggressive, which means players will need to be either traded or moved on. And if we managed to flag this year, it might be different again, you would have to entertain JDG or Checkers to become trade value. Not saying I agree with it, but I bet the club would have all cards on the table, and the result at years end will determine what we may end up doing.

How many players have been moved on under Fly who wanted to stay?

None that I know of, but the list in a totally different spot to previous years. he may do what Clark did with Lewis and tell a player or two to seek a better deal elsewhere. I am just hypothesising if we were to flag what the club could do. And for all we know, those discussions may have already taken place over the bye round. Remembering two months ago they told these players they needed more time to sort out how it may look, there is a reason to that, we won't find out what it is until trade period.

Something to consider:
Mihocek is an unrestricted free agent, so he could walk anywhere. No trade needs to be done.
We'd get a compo pick - Unlikely not much given his age so wouldn't be worth it

Forgot about Grundy, I think Ginny wanted to play for Hawthorn and there was no way he was staying after the GF, he would have read the writing on the wall.
He didn't want to leave and wasn't planning on it prior to his trip to bali. BUT once they went after schutz, he saw the writing on the wall and didn't see a spot for himself, then hawks came with an opportunity once they lost their small forward. It worked for both parties. We got Westy with the pick swap.

From what I gather, he was a late starter so not as well set up as some. I hope you're right.
Love Brody.
Me to, and don’t think other clubs will come after him with monster offers. We will give him a reasonable offer after a bit of negotiation will take it, and probably leave a bit on the table. We may have to offer him at least a couple of years however.

Hawks were in his ear well before that, and were confident they’d get him regardless of the Schultz recruitment. But it’s a nice story.

Grundy pretty definitely and maybe Ginnivan.
While true, with Grundy certainly, I tend to think they are vastly different circumstances and not comparable to Brodie M.

With Grundy, we had a better ruck-man on less pay. His deal at the end of 2019 I think, was lunacy and in a strange way, trading him at the end of 2022 may have been culture positive.

Ginny was not a good fit for our style or culture. I don’t think he is a bad bloke, I loved it when he was stirring up the opposition when he was on our side and outraged at the lack of free kicks. But much prefer the Nathan Murphy style.

Brodie M however, ticks all the boxes for our club, and unless a monster arises will be a one club player. Grannie raises a good point that he may be looking for a pay day, but it will need to be way overs and he will be 33? Next year.

I’d imagine Jen actually spoke to Gin, so maybe your post is more of a story.

Cool, but given my info comes from Sam Mitchell, before the trade period, I’m going to have to stick with my info.

I’ll believe Jen over Sam.

Jay Clark reporting that Matt Rowell is set to stay at the suns. The clubs that were involved have now dropped off the chase and its now evidence in the last 48hrs, he'll be re-signing.
