So much going on, all we are hearing is how many players are exploring their options. Today, with Chad Cornes being moved on, we are about to see factions at Port with Kenny vs Carr groups emerging, and this has to put Butters into the frame, albeit everyone knows he is on the market, no matter what you hear. The simplistic view is we get Petracca, because Goodwin, for the first time, just mentioned on Sunday that its time to transition the list into the next flag team, so he and Oliver will be traded, I would imagine.

Colin Young holds the keys for us, I can't help but feel that Darcy Cameron is the centrepiece to everything, with Carlton really going hard for him. And Young is a piece of work, and can't handle that he is being paid huge unders, with massive offers. Adding more intrigue, ROB, Draper, Marshall all indicating they open to moving, especially Marshall with TDK coming to St Kilda. If I was TDK, I would go to Geelong, as a flag is much closer there, even though he gives up $800 K a year. If the club relents and signs DC, then I guess it might be Petracca, unless the Bont doesn't sign by finals. And then we have Bobby Hill, no idea if rumours are true, but talk again of WA, which then brings Harley Reid into the picture.

Going to be a very interesting few months, lots of movement is being spoken about, Bont is best case scenario but I think the only realistic option is Petracca if DC and Hill stay. Butters is the one I, and everyone else wants, and Port would be mad not to trade him if wants out.

That was harder to follow than Tenet!

All of Butters, Bont, Petracca and Reid were somehow worked into it when none of them are even remotely likely.

It was reported tonight that Cameron is actually on 650k to 700k. I think he'll stay.

If zac butters were to request a trade to Collingwood,I would consider sending jacob ryan and harvey harrison as part of a deal.

Ryan and harvey are both SA boys, should help with any trade we offer.

Also if lever wants a move out, it would help our transition post howe.Would also allow us more time to find and draft the next generation of key position defenders to eventually take over from moore and frampton. This would still allow our defense to be at a premiership winning level.

Why would Port accept that? They were stupid with the lack of assets they got for Houston but not a chance they accept that offer

If you read my post properly, you would have seen that I used the phrase “as part of a deal”.

So in essence, it would hypothetically be

Zac butters for
Jacob ryan,harvey Harrison, draft picks.

I reckon he gets 3 years if he leaves which is a shot at a 3rd for all but a few teams. Personally I’d just like that one ticked off early so he can fully focus on his second.

FWIW Carlton remain within 3 years of a premiership if they approach this off-season well just as we were exiting 2021.
I don't agree on the Blues. Their focus should be on rebuilding, they're done. They already started last year by heading to the draft, not making a play for Houston.

Going after Mihocek would be a very odd move for them. They need younger players and KPFs are far from a priority, though I guess they may move McKay

As good as Kennedy is they go alright inside and whilst losing your best small forward hurts the mitigating factor is it’s only Owies.
Dogs have Bont, Libba and Richards inside. Kennedy's done more on the outside between mid and forward, kicking 19 goals in the process. Maybe he's looking better on a good team, but he clearly could have played a role at the Blues.

I still can’t believe how he managed to weasel us in an article about Ross the Boss’s nepo baby rant against Gold Coast

The term “rent free” fits perfectly

I’ve seen Jackson Browne in concert a few times. He always plays the Eagles “Take It Easy” which he co-wrote. Calls it his money song as I assume the royalties still keep his bank balance ticking over. For a host of different reasons, Collingwood is Ralph’s money song. His daily references to the club probably means the only rent he worries about is that from his property portfolio.

I guess GW would have a plan on how they’ll transition through that rebuild. A player like Checkers could be a perfect short term piece in that plan. I hope we keep him but I couldn’t begrudge him taking a better offer elsewhere, although a possible trade to Carlton is a stretch and the worst possible outcome.

Weitering, Cripps and Curnow remains the strongest basis for a spine in the league. They have serious talent to return from either injury or unavailability. They’re terribly coached. Unfortunately the end result is a squad that needs tweaking not demolishing.

For the sake of clarity though they only bypassed Houston because their cap was tight into the end of the decade. By moving McKay and TDK on they’ll bring in at least 2 top 10 picks and will free up circa $2m in cap space in those years to hunt a big name like Butters. They’ve already got Jagga and quality FS’ in the pipeline. They’ll rebound quickly with a good choice of coach and GM of footy…

Mihocek is an unrestricted FA.

My point was I think we are going to see multi club trades this year, and now Lever is also on the table, so Goodwin is clearing house. For us to be a player, someone has to be leaving for us to get capital, and a lot of it will depend on whether we flag or not. I still think NWM gets to Port, TDK goes to St Kilda, and NWM trade should then open it all up for other deals to get done. Butters decision is going to be whether he can get to his preferred club, if he can't he may stay another year. Given where Port sits, they should take the capital for Butters this year because the draft is compromised next year.

Not sure I agree with this. Curnow and Cripps are in seriously shocking form, with the added dimension of potentially being on the decline. Taylor, Green and Hogan is a better spine than those three by a fair way.

Who is their serious talent on the sidelines? McKay, who they might be pushing out? Walsh is not the player he once was, Smith is a complete unknown, Silvagni is decent but by no means serious talent, same with Saad, and Nic Newman will be 33 when he next plays. I just don't know what talent you're seeing. The players that make up the 10th-23rd spots on their team are often as not just genuine shockers!

Rebuilding is a fools errand in this current climate with 18 teams and compromised drafts.

They should be looking at as much cost effective talent they can.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who had no idea what the hell was going on in Tenet. I had to turn it off half way through the movie.

How many serious talents did we have at the end of 2021?

Grundy who we pushed out? Pendlebury and Sidebottom were cooked? De Goey who still barely made the transition from fwd to the middle?

Form is temporary and class is permanent and they’re in no worse shape than Pendles, Sidey and Howey were exiting 2021. That said I’d probably have GWS and Carlton on a par because I overlooked Green.

Walsh, Newman, Smith, Saad, Silvagni and Hollands are all talents. I haven’t factored in McKay because he won’t be there next year, IMO. I genuinely can’t believe the pile on from Pies supporters who should have learned lessons from where we were in 2021.

This is some serious revisionist history! Grundy was still yet to be pushed out, so not sure how that is relevant. Pendlebury and Sidebottom still finished 3rd and 5th in the B&F respectively. Crisp, Elliott, Adams, Moore and Maynard were all playing really solid footy but had a couple of injuries. Quaynor, Daicos, Murphy and Noble were all emerging best 22 youth on top of that.

I would say most of those players are more serious talents than Adam Saad or Nic Newman

Walsh is good, not great. Saad and Silvagni are solid, as is Hollands (who has some other issues). Newman is battling serious injury to come back at a pretty old age - none of our veterans have suffered that kind of structural injury to their lower body. And Smith hasn't played a game yet.

I just don't rate their list. They have no prolonged period of success, many of the players they have brought in recently (Cerra, Williams, McGovern, Acres etc.) on big coin have been flops.

There are some pretty key differences between us in 21 and them now that I think you're overlooking. Namely, the best young player the game has seen in decades and a genuine embrace of fresh faces at all levels of coaching, management and board.
