Would people go after Steven May? Yes, he is 33 but he is elite.

Bulldogs will have a crack at him for sure.

Absolutely! He’s worth much less while he’s not attending training over a 10 week block of a season than a guy that flipped our season on its head last Friday.

Let’s spin it around and Kai Lohman just stops training out of the blue for the Lions due to personal reasons. After 3 months of basically not fronting up he asks for a trade to Collingwood are you giving up anything much for him when you’ll be paying him circa $800-900k pa? You have no idea if he’s going to ever come good like JUH. This could be the end for Bob because if you aren’t in the head space to train you have no value to a football club.

Like everyone I’m hoping and praying he comes back into the fold. Where I run counter though is with the bizarre angle from some to push him out the door. Nothing good will come of that.

That's a pretty terrible example though. I wouldn't pay Lohman $800-900k plus a high first rounder whether he was training or not.

Bobby's situation is completely different to JUH. One is genuine mental health from having his kids move away to another state. The other is refusing to go to work so he can go clubbing and hang out with criminals where he clearly has no interest in his AFL career anymore. From all the signs, Bobby still wants to play and be involved but is obviously still battling some mental demons to commit to a set training schedule.

The belief with Bobby is that if he moves back to WA, his personal situation would resolve so there's no issues with turning up and performing. In that instance you'd expect full value from a WA club for the trade. If the idea is that you push him out in a trade to the Gold Coast or another Vic club, then I agree I don't see how that might resolve his personal situation in which case it's better for him to stay.

It baffles me why people aren’t able to distinguish the situations that JUH and bobby find themselves in.

Would be foolish not to extract full value for a player of his talents.

The media reporting Bulldogs as the standout club for Steven May this morning tells me they’ve quickly fallen out of the race for JSOS.

The biggest problem is that we don't know what actually took place with Bobby. Bobby signed a 4 year extension and 2 months later his wife and kids took off. Let just wait and see what happens

Family resolution and a fit and happy Bobby in a Pies jumper in 2026 is my hope

Good. I know who id prefer in our side. JSOS or old Panel Beaten Head
May is near 35 isn’t he? It wouldn’t be a bad pickup for them for the now, while they are still contending for the 8. Maybe a better defender will be available next year but for the immediate future he’d fill a need absolutely.

Surprised to read that Burton is only 28, what got me more was Finlayson is 29. I'm pushing 40 and I look better than him.
As much as I dislike him, go through the stress of watching your wife battle terminal cancer and we’ll see how you’re looking.

Wouldn’t wish that upon your worst enemy. It’s amazing he’s still going around really. Must be unbelievably difficult

Going back to WA does not mean Bobby’s situation would be automatically resolved.
