Essendon captain Zach Merrett has hit the training track in enemy territory with new Gold Coast recruit Christian Petracca following the star midfielder’s failed trade attempt.

A video posted to North Melbourne’s social media channels shows Merrett, Petracca and North Melbourne sensation Harry Sheezel exchanging handshakes at Arden Street on a wet Monday morning in Melbourne.


Merrett did not get his wish to join Hawthorn last week after Essendon refused to budge on their plans to hold the 30-year-old, with the Bombers rejecting an offer involving three first-round selections.

Several North Melbourne players were completing their own sessions on Monday, including young defender Jackson Archer and veteran Jack Darling.

Anyone pop in and see who the others were?

Took the kids down for a hit of cricket last Boxing Day at the local oval and Trac was there doing a solo kicking/running session.

He was amazing with the kids who were kicking the balls back to him. Said hello to about 15-20 kids over the session and was out on the ground for about 1-1.5hrs.

Reckon he’s a good fella and obv a dedicated trainer.

Perhaps he's of a similar disposition

Sounds like an improvement on the typical diet (massive generalisation I know), so would make sense.
