Training 2026 Training Reports

Just checked out the predicted teams for the State of Origin match on Feb 14. We are the only team with zero players listed for either team. Was slightly grumpy until I thought it through and realised that we’re the only team with zero chance of having our players injured.

So … good! Imagine losing Xerri or PC for the season because of a pointless game?

My friend you have no idea what you've just put out into the universe. We're the club of bathtub slips, pen knife tendon lacerations and gangrenous toes.

My god, Duursma plays 5 good minutes against North Melbourne and now we're retiring off JD, Zurhaar and X already.

Take it easy we ‘eh?

Two weeks into 2026 we are Semi Finals bound going by the excitement on here

Wait until every second campaigner who's "desperate to represent their state" pulls out with hamstring tightness about a week before the game....

How is X, Sheeze, PC not in the vic side or Bull in the WA side 😂
One of the instances where I couldn't give a flying ****. At least one team will be bemoaning an injury to a key player by the end of the game. We won't be

Lol, 100%. Couldn't give a flying toss at this point. We need wins, not Mickey Mouse ones.

Jy Simpkin in the all stars game dislikes this.

Thoughts on Best 23 R1?

FB: Hardeman Logue Dawson
HB: McKercher Comben Daniels
C: FOS LDU Simpkin
HF: Duursma Larkey Curtis
FF: Bull Trembath Dovaston
ON: Xerri Wardlaw Sheezel
INT: Darling Parker Stephens McDonald Powell

Love to see us throw Dovaston in early to get a taste, if it doesnt work after 3 games we replace with Konstanty/Banch.

Reckon we need to pump games into W Dawson to fast track development. Hopefully Whitlock cracks in soon too, look forward to Pink, Logue and Corr being kicked out eventually to be honest.

Next year still think we need another KPF, half back with run and skill, and another KPD.

You’d assume all our guys will be playing a pointless community series match against the pies in Ballarat. So probably best to avoid going the early crow.

Depending on the preseason Pink might start instead of Dawson and Banch might force his way in

Since we are all doing it….

LMAC Logue Pink

Kerch Chom Hardeman

Jy LDU FOS

Powell Darling Bull

Dovaston Larkey Curtis

Xerri Sheez Wardlaw

Int- Parker Daniels Trembath Stephens Duurs

Super early on all this to be fair. Trembath to good to be left out but by mid season hopefully replacing Darling as a whole.

I don’t like team balance with Kerch and Daniels both playing off half back. I suspect we may see Stephens and FOS playing minutes there or with defensive focuses

JK and Banch in big conversation for round 1 and don’t be shocked if RHJ name gets thrown around.

Still concerned with Dawson development currently. Not physically but his ability to read the game. I really hope I am wrong though. I honestly play Corr ahead of him in most situations and that’s an ugly truth.

We got the early crowing out of our system in 2024 after we won a pointless community series match against the Pies

Trembath and potentially Duursma will go past JD as forward options from R1.

Most teams will play a second ruckman with five on the bench so the ruck role becomes more significant than the forward role. JD will get destroyed by proper second rucks this year.

Xerri is training forward more to prepare for this.
When you have the best ruck in the competition you don’t play him fwd. He rucks for 80%-90% of the game and rests the remainder.

Teams playing 2 rucks are those who don’t have the calibre we do in X.

Just getting my daily best 23 in:

McDonald Logue Pink
FOS Comben Hardeman

Stephens LDU Simpkin
Xerri McKercher Wardlaw

Banch Larkey Sheezel
Zurhaar Curtis Trembath

I: Parker Goater Darling Duursma Dovaston

Competition for spots is a great problem to have, if our list stays healthy the development of players will be better for it.

Powells spot in our side concerns me, not cemented his spot in our midfield and limited spots in the fwd line for a HFF.

Saying this our backline still looks so light on, Archer is a very big out for us.

Yeah sorry, my point was clear to me but probably not to anyone else.

I just meant that it’s kind of silly to be happy our players aren’t being exposed to the risk of injury in some meaningless state of origin game when they will all be playing an even more meaningless “community series” game.

Dawson isnt ready. He’s another one that I dont think has shown enough promise in his time yet. Still plenty of time but im skeptical on him and a few other ones we have drafted.

The club is pushing to win > 8 games. You wont find dawson in the starting team.

The rest of the team I dont mind.

Banch for Daniels and we have a winner

Community series at least gives the club a chance to prepare for the season. Trialling players in positions. Practising the game plan. Controlling minutes of the players against real opposition. It's not more meaningless.
