Yes you're definitely right there, but you're talking about their positions. Not their standing within the team. Merrett, Parish and Ridley are all better players than Redman IMO. I'd also argue that Stringer and 2MP are his equal.

Whether he's top two or not he's 25 and coming into his prime when we're looking to start climbing up the ladder. He is extremely important to our team and we don't have anyone who could cover what we would lose. Losing him now would be devastating. We have lots of salary cap room, the only reason we would lose him would be if he had a strong desire to go home. I also think the brand of footy that Adelaide played against Carlton would be exciting too. They are also a young team on the rise and looked a year or two ahead in their development. While we did beat the premiership favourites, there was a lot less intensity in our game.

If we lose Parish and/or Redman this year our team takes a step back from where it could be after another preseason into Martin, Perkins, Durham, Caldwell, Cox and Reid.

Not a heap we can do.

We clearly want him, and would pay him what’s necessary. He wouldn’t be leaving us for, say, Adelaide, for a payday. We’re in a position to match whatever financially.

The only reason he’d go would be as simple as he wants to (location reasons or otherwise).
And if that’s the case - nothing we can do about it anyway. So be it.

I'd personally add Draper (or would do soon, anyway) but I totally agree with you. I can't believe there are running AA teams that don't have Redman in them

In fairness the half back line is super hard to pick, so many good players. Also Redman was absolutely horrendous vs the Saints, only 1 game but we've only played 5.

The simple fact is if we have created the right program and environment and there is a clear path forward and a connection with the coach he will stay . Smart move on his part to get at least half of the season out of the way before looking at contract’s.
