Is it just me or does he look like he has tidied up his kicking over his long injury layoff? Kicks look lower, punchier, less floaty and better directed. Will never be Zach Merrett with the ball but he's looked a lot better this season to my eye.

I think so too. Delivered a really nice i50 against North as well that stuck out to me, and I'm fairly sure in a game prior to that.

I don’t think so.

His kicking in the first half wasn’t great or for any of the other games.

He was much better after half time

Yep i whip Parish

Great game the third quarter was top notch but that's the bar maybe not quite to that extent but he needs to rock up every week

His first 4 games were awful
I was ranting about him at half time, but credit where credit is due he was awesome in the 2nd half. He may not be a complete package but when he is in form he has a pretty unique ability to win clearances.

This. He started out the season rated elite by the AFL app, which is exceptional for an inside midfielder.
So yes, for whatever reason (less TOG?) his kicking had been much improved.

Personally, I think he is just being more deliberate about his decision making, rather than just panic kicking like he often has done throughout his career.
In the past, even when out in open space on his own, he still often missed basic targets.
In fact, I’d even argue you he has been an elite kick coming out of congestion.
Whatever the reason, let’s hope he can keep it going - it may even result in an accidental AA blazer? Maybe…

Darcy isn't a particularly poor kick, his decision making is what lets him down. His action looks technically, ok, albeit rushed at times
Regular kicker of floaters and knuckleballs

Not to the same degree as Shiel but historically he’s been average at best

He also leans back and kicks over the head of short targets

This.

He also doesn’t lower the eyes either. Just bombs it inside 50 constantly

Never really bought into the knock on his kicking. He’s always been pretty average but is made to look worse by a high possession count.
I remember watching Geelong win grand finals years ago where all they seemed to do was blindly kick around their body. But they were always first to the ball like it was a set game plan. All our players cop it for those sort of kicks because we are only ever first to the lunch truck. In a strong side parish would be feared.

People are getting sucked in again.

Yes he wins footy. His use is just ok - sometimes better than that, especially by hand.

He is a big problem defensively. Never gets out of a jog in transition. What happens when you don’t have the footy matters!

Where’s the room for a team having different roles? I’m not arguing that his defence isn’t deficient, but what about the deficiencies in other mids not winning enough ball or enough clearances? I’d argue that unless you can have a team full of zerretts then you probably want players who balance each others roles. Our midfield was superior to the suns yesterday and did it with frenetic defence and dominant attack.

He’s a decent offensive mid….but not good enough that you accept and work around his defensive deficiencies. He’s not that guy.

Not sure I agree re midfields yesterday. Petracca and Rowell did plenty of damage.

Yeah nah. He’s a lot better than decent. Winning the ball hasn’t meant much in his career when his team mates can’t make use of it.
