It was pointed out to me on another forum that during the cricket show in the last test, the issue of Haddin came up and Healy was giving us some inside gossip. He said that he'd spoken with the selectors and they made it clear that while Paine was injured, they do not want to put Wade into the team and that means Haddin is safe for now.

What has Wade done to upset the 'new' panel already or is Heals just being controversial for the sake of it?

Wade has the form over Paine, is younger, fit and playing now and a better gloveman ... so what gives Invers, Marsh & co?????

Wade is just as likely to perform at a level that would keep Paine out of the side, having said it Healy did say it and he is a moron.

To be fair Khawaja has absolutely no idea how to play T20 cricket. Would be much better off pulling a Hughes, missing the Big Bash comp and playing County Cricket or something.

Hard to argue with any of that, but as I said, Khawaja was playing regular defensive pushes to the balls Starc beat him with last night. He just wasn't good enough to get a bat on them, as they were pitched in the perfect (test) length and swung away from him.
As I've been saying though, if he plays Mitch, he will need to bowl better than he did to NZ, I expect, as he bowled a lot of ordinary stuff to them that they left alone, as they were tough conditions for batting and they weren't very confident, so they didn't risk playing a lot of his junk. If he bowls the same stuff to India and they are not in collapse mode, they will be going full throttle against it. He did bowl some very good balls to NZ, though, that went unrewarded (his wickets generally came from ordinary balls) so if he plays we'll have to hope some of his jaffas get their due rewards (or that he again gets wickets from some of his shit balls!)

Reading this thread over, how many people have actually seen Wade keep?

He is the only specialist keeper in the country that is worse than Brad Haddin, so there is absolutely no way you would replace Haddin with Wade.

Haddin & Wade are 2 peas in a pod, very average keepers who are quality aggressive strokemakers with the bat. Wade has nowhere near the experience & nous behind him that Haddin does, so replacing Haddin with 'Haddin Lite' would be a very strange thing to do.

Yes, Haddin has got out to some questionable shots recently. Most people vividly remember his shot when we were al out for 47, but its important to note that we were ALL OUT FOR 47, there were 6 batsmen before him that did no better, whether they got out attacking, or defending.

Brad Haddin is a much better batsman when he plays his natural game. Counter attacking when he comes to the wicket at 5-50 or putting on the cream when he comes in at 5-400. Either way, he's likely to get out playing an expansive drive. He's also likely to hit 30+ off about 50 balls.

He averages 35 in test cricket, which is up there in all-time averages for specialist keepers. Gilchrist was an exception, not the norm.

People remember the times when Haddin gets out aiming a drive at a wide one, but forget his match winning 50 in South Australia, or his counter attacking 100's in the opening test matches of the last 2 Ashes series, or his 50's in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Ashes tests last year when he came to the wicket with us at 5 for ****all.

I would argue that someone like Michael Clarke, who is rightfully the toast of Australian Cricket at the moment, as got out to irresponsible shots in tight situations far more often than Brad Haddin.

People really do have short memories.

Tim Paine is the long term answer, and in the meantime if they do want an improved keeper at the expense of batting prowess, they should go with Chris Hartley, who is clearly the best gloveman in the country and will be adequate with the bat. He also has a knack of scoring most of his runs when arriving at the crease at 5-for **** all, which should help!

As one of the better young batsmen in the country, I don't see why Wade can't get a game without the gloves in the near future.

I'm going out on a limb and saying that Peter Nevill is the next long term Australian keeper.

agree, there is a question mark. However, the selectors have their eggs in that basket, not just in terms of the keeping position, but likely for a leadership role as well.

If his finger never comes good, the next long term test keeper is likely someone yet to emerge.

Yeah they have earmarked Tim Paine to be captain as well which is ludicrous IMO. If they wouldn't let Gilchrist captain because he was keeping how on earth is it ok for Tim Paine to Captain.?

Gilchrist played in a team that had good alternatives.

Currently, there are no 25-30 year olds in the test side or fronges of the test side that have Captain written all over them in the way Paine does.

Clarke will do it for 5-6 years, and hopefully by then a suite of contenders have emerged.

Which is a worry as it means that Haddin will keep his spot for the West Indies as well which is insane

Looks like Wade will just have to dominate the T20Is which he is now the full time keeper in with Paines injuries and he should get a couple of ODIs with their new rotational policy

If you want to drop Haddin due to his keeping standards, then you need to replace him with Hartley or similar, no point in dropping a bad keeper who can bat, for another bad keeper who can bat.

Concur. I've seen him a few times and he's done nothing wrong.

I don't know the technicalities of keeping, but he takes catches, stops byes and seems pretty much at ease.

Haddin looks shit every time he's out there.

That said, whenever I've gone, he gets out quickly so I've never seen him batting live for more than 10/15 mins ><

The only person who thinks Berry was the best pure keeper to play the game is Darren Berry. A fine keeper he most certainly was, but his abilities were overstated. I'd rate Jack Russell & Wade Seccombe ahead of him off the top of my head.

Too right. Wade will get so much crap from people when he doesnt perform. You can tell the posters with the low IQ are. The ones who say Wade is a substandard keeper. But the best keeper in the game is the worst batsman and given he bats at 9 or 10 for his state, you would lose alot more than the 5-10 runs he might save in a test match

Matthew Wades keeping is alot better than Haddins and as a package, he is ahead of every other keeper in the country, Nevill might jump him but Wade atleast has the advantage of being able to state his case at International level, I doubt we will ever see Nevill wearing the coloured clothing for Australia

Haddin has been a rubbish batsman for the past 18 months and a rubbish keeper all his career. At 35 or something he's getting worse not better.

Wade, well I haven't seen him be as stupid as haddin in the last 3 years, and he's got 10 years on Haddin.

Wade is so far ahead of haddin its not funny.
