I've watched him play VFL. He is solid at the level.

I'd say I've watched 4 or 5 games.

Is he a long term answer? Maybe, but I doubt it. Would I sign him anyway? Absolutely.

Competent footballer, possibly high football IQ, genuinely higher than your average tall, but listening to the commentary I feel the need to point out that he did nothing in the air, couldn't get separation on the lead and kicked crumbing goals.

His performance was almost of no relevance to the role of playing as a key forward. The solution to our small forward problems is not to play pseudo balls who crumb.

I'm not saying necessarily saying delist but I'd like to see him at least make a contest in the air more than once. But I'm also saying that last night wouldn't give me even a moments hesitation chopping for a list spot unless he shows something in the next few games.

His career average is rated elite for marks on the lead.

Have you considered him in the same light if he was the 3rd or 4th forward, doing what he has as our stand out current second option?

Do you think we can manage carrying all of edwards/jones/langford/McMahon? seems like too many third tall types IMO, and lets be honest 2MP plays more like a third tall than a key forward too haha.
We really did jump the gun with Edwards and Jones extensions.

Yes I do or I would not have said free hit. Jones will not be a third tall anyway.
It is not a big deal in my view.
As far as jumping the gun well hindsight is great.
Even though they signed Edwards when he was injured there was no injury predictor they could use.
No one was predicting 4 mid season picks.

Thats fair re Jones not being a third tall, I guess he offers a bit as a utility.
I dont really think its a case of "hindsight is great" with the criticism of the Edwards extension, a number of people on this forum criticised it at the time it was announced because it would limit our flexibility with list options (I think eth-dog was one of them for similar reasons as his criticism of the rush to extend El-Hawli), anyway its a moot point if we arent carrying too many third tall types on the list and/or Langford asks for a trade.

I would have thought the fact that McMahon has shown a consistent ability to attract the ball on the lead, find space and convert and rely on brains not brawn despite basically always playing in bad sides is a green flag, not a red flag

He is a player that is a leader. He has the scope to fill in and play a role or to play VFL and add leadership there. As a rookie he is cheap and the back end of this years draft will not be flash. If we have no spots then so be it but if we do then I have no issues giving him a year.

Did you hear me complain when Noah Gown was delisted? I might have queried the delisting of Michael Still for a moment.

The player we actually missed on was a guy called Alex Boyse but I don't think he ever won the goal kicking, though.

I think with Edwards we've just substituted list managemnet pet.

Completely non-sensical contract at the time it was handed out, for another tall guy who holds his ground getting goals out the back and doing nothing physical, which is useless for forwards who are not in their team for their ability to apply pressure.

We have no issues with keeping them all within the cap. Let them fight it out for spots and delist who doesn't make the cut.

Writing off a player after his second game because he isn't Jack Gunston already is such an Essendon thing to do.
