I reckon I idolised him more, give it to me.

I like the idea of it going to someone we see as a future captain, but McVeigh has made 10 his own and it's also a famous number.

There was an article on Stants during the year where he said he wants to captain the club one day wasn't there?

Bachar Houli..anyone that saw the Bomber Magazine and showed how much Hirdy looked after Houli and how Houli when he first came to the club approached Hird, Hird didnt approach him..that shows confidence and thats why i think Houli will get it...If he doesnt, Hirdy will give to his best mate, Spike.

I think that it is unfair to put that sort of "the next Hird" pressure on a young kid... The is enough to deal with and get your head around being a young AFL player as it is.

The only player I believe the no. 5 wouldn't put a lot of presure on would be Darcy Daniher. It's a family number... And he is wearing it for traditional reasons... Not because he is expected to be an EFC Legend.

I don't like the idea of retiring/resting numbers. That's for sports like basketball where you have 10-12 players and 100 number. If we start retiring the numbers of our great players... There's probably 7-10 number gone already... and we'll have rookies wearing 59, 62 ect.
