A season to remember.

We approach the season not unlike the many which have gone before us stretching back to 1892. Full of hope and bravado of the new crop of stars, mixed in with our regulars, we hoped for a finals berth – that’s not too much to ask for is it? After 7 long years of absence.

Who could fathom the story lines that would unfold over the coming weeks and months. We hoped for no headlines in the preseason, but alas our budding super star Jordan Degoey provided plenty of fodder, and was duly banished to the VFL to train and play.

Our Bucks, forever the consummate media performer, had been in the gun from both fans and media alike. Media headlines from “experts” had Carlton closer to a flag than Collingwood. Three weeks in, 2 losses, and 13 points down early in the match against Carlton, no less, there was an unease amongst many, for what the season would hold.

We win a Premiership early though, as the weeks lost to players injured mounted. How cruel football can be, that we should endure the pain of another season lost to injuries. Elliot, Goldsack, Wells, Fasolo, Scharenberg, Dunne, Moore, Broomhead and Treloar to mention a few strong contributors to our unwanted premiership.

And what season would be complete without some drug saga. Unfortunately, this saga became ours as young Murray made a life changing choice.

We prevail however. A rookie named Mihocek who was driving a forklift 12 months ago. An American of 211cm takes the step up nobody thought he could. A young draftee with a heart problem plays every game and wins the rising star. Grundy becomes a top 10 player, and Steel almost steals the Brownlow.

But tragedy strikes one of our favourite sons Travis Varcoe, as his sister passes away. Our thoughts and prays are with the Varcoe family.

The story lines are everywhere though this season, some more dramatic than others. But this story has one more chapter.

This is no fairy tale. Our team will have the courage to write their own story. They will take control of their own destiny.

This is their time. They were born to be here for this moment.

A season full of stories, but this Saturday will be our FINEST HOUR

It is a "call to arms" because as Denis Pagan once said - "it's battle out there" - our chosen band of warriors will prevail - every post on this entire Cwood Board must will them over the line

Mate, that is a ripping post. You're right. This one feels different to any season I've been aware of, and I've been around the Woods since '76. We WILL write that story, and I for one will be there to see it written. LET'S GO BOYS
