A cheer for Collingwood

Cheering the filth...

They tried a few cheap shots today so it's hard to commend them for sportsmanship.

Wellingham driving his knees into Stoke's back while lying prostrate on the ground was a dog act and Cloke's behind play hit on Lonergan was nasty.

Not to mention Leigh Brown's subtle little headbutt on Ottens at the bottom of a pack in the second half.

Collingwood fans had every right to feel confident going into this game, a bit like Cats fans in 2008. I know how devastating losing a GF can be after such a dominant season. The higher the expectation the bigger the fall.

Grow up sonny boy and check out the thread on the Pies board.

Hope you then have the nuts to come back here and apologize.

Wouldn't bet on it though

go look for work
So satifsying to see you guys cry and the typical Collingwood chokers lying on the ground weeping and looking around at those that actually stood up such as Pendlebury, Cloke, Sidebottom and ask the question "why couldn't you do more! So us passengers could reap the rewards at the end of the day" :D

DAAAAAAAAAVISSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!
SWWWWAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!
DDDDDDAAAAAAAWSSSSYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!
BLLAAIRRRRRRRYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!

I wouldn't be allowed on a Collingwood board.

I have a job, my own home, no criminal record, no tatts and every single one of my own teeth. And might I add I'm quite handsome.

Funny.. I thought the thread was going to be be about the "Geeeee Longggg" in the last quarter. Certainly that was cheer for Collingwood if i have ever heard it.

Say what ever you like about Collingwood they a worthy of being considered our greatest victory. They were not a side on the end of their era , or side that has turbulent past with a lack of recent GF success.

This year they had a bit of 2008 and a bit of 2010, now we will see if they can fight back as we have done or does someone else stick their head up.

This.

Collingwood will fight back and we will join the fight again to play off.
Hawks, Wet toasters and the blues are all improving fast.

We have to get better at what we do.

Again !!

Sure it was great to beat them, but they were a great team all year. Without them the Grand Final would have been a lot less exhilarating.

Yep! Been exceptional for two years. And the supporters have generally been gracious in defeat.

In fact the only slightly sour note was Nick Maxwell's comment that we might have won the battle but we haven't won the war. Understand it was directed to the faithful. But sorry Nick, the home and away games and the early finals are the battles and the GF is the war. A fresh campaign starts in 2012. You lost this one. Accept it.

Totally agree, Ammo!
I dropped into their site and they were great. Most were positive and gracious. Some terrific character shown.
A few Cat's supporters probably didn't suffer the crap we copped for so very long and don't know how to appreciate a win over competition that fully deserves to be respected.
That actually enhances our victory. A tough win over a great club is far better than an easy win over mediocrity.
Thanks Pies! You have made this very special.

Stokes was up and about 5 seconds after Wellingham kneed him, so it must have looked worse than it was. Lonergan evened up on Cloke.

It was a clean game, by and large.

I have no real hatred for Collingwood, so I did actually feel a bit of sympathy for them on Saturday.

They'd feel exactly like we did in 2008 and that sucked.

I will also say that all the Collingwood supporters I encountered at the game were well behaved and magnanimous in defeat :thumbsu:

I wouldn't mind if they bounced back and won it next year (not if we are there or thereabouts again though ;))

I have been staggered by the response of Collingwood and their supporters to the loss. The genuine sportsmanship shown from top down has come out of left field (for me anyway). Nick Maxwell, Pendlebury's article, BF posters... They've all shown nothing but class in defeat. Well, from what I've seen and read anyway (and I even took a wander into Bay 13).

I took the Maxwell comment as a compliment. He's suggesting a war continuing with us over a few more years I'd imagine, so he doesn't expect us to drop away, or is that too much of a stretch? Either way I didn't see it as disrespectful at all.

They've gone up a couple of notches in my opinion of them as a club. I didn't hate them before, there are other clubs that bother me more than the Pies. It was pretty tough losing to them last year in the Prelim. That night felt like our window had suddenly closed. I admired the way they took us apart but I also felt jealous of their youth and future.

I guess I always saw their supporters as generally pretty one-eyed, but to be honest I don't really mind that sort of passion. It adds colour and texture to the game. They carry the burden of being the resented juggernaught of the league, the team everyone loves to hate. It brings them together and fuels their one-eyed support. The Pies supporters I know are good sorts, none of them fit them stereotype. I think the stereotype comes from a different time in football anyway, a traditional jeer if you like.

No problem with any of the hits from the game, overall pretty clean for a GF. Expect at least that level of physicality. We've not got the cleanest (past) history in that area anyway, so the less said the better. Was very surprised Neon Leon got cited today, should not have been in my opinion.

I guess I expected a different reaction from Collingwood, less graciousness, less sportmanship, less humilty. More finger pointing, more blaming unjuries, the umpires, the weather, but it just didn't come.

So yes a cheer for the Pies, three cheers even. A cheer for the departing Malthouse who suited them to a tee. They are truely the surprise packet of 2011 for me and I'd love to see us go at it again in the next few seasons.

Agree with all. On the way in to GF on the train, the Pies fans were generally less confident of their team winning than I was of us winning, that's saying something. I have always had a good feeling about Pies since the 70's, and have some sort of empathy for their supporters after many of their recurrent GF losses. This year, same deal. To beat them is huge because they were outstanding for such a long time, Geelong 08. Great club, great team, they should be our #1 rivals for eternity.

In fact the only slightly sour note was Nick Maxwell's comment that we might have won the battle but we haven't won the war.

This is the sort of thing that would really motivate Geelong players.

They don't publicly disrespect Maxwell, but I get the feeling they have reservations about him.

During the post game presentations, when Maxwell said we were the better team on the day, I noticed J Hunt having a chat to a team mate about the comment and laughing as if to say - "Only on the day Nick? What about all year?"

God VD...they must have been apocalyptic!! :D

PS: Thanks Pera...you handed abit out prior to the game but to step up to the plate after shows character!

Champion team and amazing club. I think it's impossible to hate Geelong, even though they were far too good for us this year. Congratulations and see you guys next year. :thumbsu:
Well done Pera
The behaviour of the 5 Pies fans around my son and I was magnificent and really made the day enjoyable . They were all knowledgeable , we all shook hands before and after the game and wished each other well - things have changed in the 12 years since we moved to Perth !! Tears also flowed - my son and I with pure joy and the Pies fans with disappointment. Fantastic day.

i'm sorry but that is ABSOLUTELY baffling!!!!

What exactly is Nick Maxwell's definition of "war"??
When does the "war" stop?? when he retires?? when the Pies when their next flag??:confused::confused:

I agree Ammo, just accept it Nick. you lost!

In fact i seem to recall last year in his post match interview (drawn GF) he said something along the lines of "I don't think we've ever seen 44 players ever go to war like that before"
