A.Swallow vs Rioli

Rioli has more talent and every so often does the amazing thing.

Swallow is the more reliable, goes in harder, gets his own ball.

His little brother has all the talent of Rioli and more combined with his brother's qualities too.

They are different players.

Swallow is in amongst it, Rioli is outside.

Rioli has more speed, is more nimble, better tackler, more dangerous around goal. See its easy to play that game. Both will have better characteristics than the other.

As 'all round' players they are pretty even, i guess it depends on what you need at your club. Both have come on well & will be/are stars next year & beyond.

Swallow led the league in tackles. Rioli is a great tackler though.

Swallow has delivered more, no doubt about that.

However, Riolis upside could be anything.

this is an interesting poll as these two players are, in many ways, polar opposites

swallow is a hardworking though limited workhorse who is ferocious in the clinches

rioli has all the talent in the world, but, like many others who fit that description, he is as soft as butter

depends if you need an in and under type or a crumbing forward

I voted Andrew Swallow, but it's a hard one to pick. Both are very reliable in their own areas. While Cyril is sometimes amazing but sometimes average (though usually very good), Andrew is usually about the same every game. Cyril is the kind of player who, when he gets the ball, make opposition supporters fear what's about to happen. Andrew doesn't really have that factor, but he's a consistent great player and a hard worker, and is an essential part of North Melbourne's team structure.

Hard to say, they are different players. Rioli has alot more natural talent and does the odd amazing thing. Swallow is a very consistent hard at it player. Cyril is also a bit injury prone but so far in their careers I'd say Swallow

How can a player be as soft as butter if they win most one on ones, break tackles, can tackle the big blokes and take marks running back into packs?
You seem to forget the rag-dolling tackle on Rooke as an 19yo (R17 2008) or the shirtfront on Cross after collecting the pill earlier this year.

He doesn't have a problem going in hard when it's his turn.

Swallow is a good young player who does well against the lesser sides. Be good to see him tear it up against a top side

I'm not sure why people think Rioli doesn't win his own ball.

But at the moment I would say Rioli. His hamstrings are a bit of a worry though, but hopefully they settle down. Hopefully the OP does, too.

It took 4 posts to get to a SLF contribution on a Swallow thread? Wow, why so slow?

Swallow has done more so far. I reckon Rioli's exploits have been largely overrated. If you were offered both of them though, you'd take Rioli in a heart beat.

Rioli is a good tackler but Swallow leads the league in tackles.

If you were offered David Swallow over any young player in the league, you'd take him.

Swallow is a mass tackler as he spends 90% of hist time on the ball. For technique, Cyril gets the nod. Not that that's a problem for Swallow but Cyril's tackling is amazing.

I voted Cyril. Gamebreaker.

I would certainly take a proven, supremely good young player, like Deledio, Pendlebury, Selwood ect. over David Swallow.
In the poll, Swallow, mainly because he would be more usefull to the Pies. Replace Ball in a couple of years.
