They have 3 reasonably high picks, it doesn't have to be pick 3. Get what you can for the four of them and use those wisely at the trade table. Crouch would be worth their Pick 19. Himmleberg I can see going up north for a 2/3 rounder. Lynch and Talia both 3/4 rounders. I could be way wrong with their value. Hell what sort of pick would you give for Tex?

You don't trade picks for free agents though, we would just get free agent compensation. Not saying we don't want that, but what picks they have is largely irrelevant. The only one you actually need to trade for is Himmelberg and that's probably a 3rd rounder.

Sure we can trade the free agency picks and our current picks for theirs, but that is true for 16 other clubs.

Edit: As an addendum to this, pretty sure that Crouch is the only one who is restricted too, so if the others want to go we have no ability to stop it and will just get what we get. For older players on short contracts (Lynch who will be 31, Talia who will be 30, and Walker who will be 31), that likely won't be much sadly.

Better than nothing for the old ones. Crouch IMO could be worth more than the compo pick. Already the Vic. media are starting to talk him down.

Just looking at some stats on James Rowe cause I know he has some polarizing opinions on here.

Currently among players ranked as forwards

11th for Forward 50 Ground Ball Gets
31st for Pressure Acts
23rd for Goals
19th for Tackles Inside 50
20th for Score Involvements

Not doing too bad for his first year I'd of thought.

If Gold Coast are serious about trading away pick 3 and there’s a good midfielder available, I’d be more than happy with looking at trading out Lynch Talia AND Crouch
They can have laird for pick 3..

we have too many workhorse accumulator types.. we need to add a couple of classy mids.

Wont happen.. but for Pick 3 I’d be happy to trade a contracted rory laird to them.

We might luckily slip into the top 8 (not talking this year of course) but will never go anywhere with a midfield that has all of laird, keays, sloane and matt crouch as its main guys.

it needs to drastically change. At least one of laird, sloane, mcrouch or keays needs to go.

The vic media dont even need to talk down crouch’s value.. he hasnt even played a game this year and probably wont.. his value has plummeted enough just due to that.

who’s gonna offer him a big deal when he probably wont even prove he can get back on the park and back to his best by the end of the year?..

I'd happily do Keays for pick 19, and send him back to his home state.

Seems extraordinarily unlikely though.

Wow, just had a quick glance at the Gold Coast list management and trade thread and in the last 2 pages alone posters have mentioned Tex, Lynch, Himmelberg, Crouch and Talia as potential targets this offseason...

Seems like 'experience and leadership' is well and truly on the menu up north!

Would trade all of them for Rankine and Luko (not that that is a possibility)

Although I’m not sure I would trade Laird, I like your thinking. I caveat all of this by saying the crows are most conservative club in the nation. I think we need to take a leaf from Port’s book and trade some players that actually have value: Smith, Crouch, Laird, Seed etc. that are likely not in our next premiership side. The disappointing thing is, these types of calls should have been made at the end of ‘18 when the Crouches, Lynch, Smith etc. had more value.

Look at his record and the way Brad has responded to a similar injury. If he achieves his aim of returning to game before the end of the season whether in the SANFL or VFL it will show he is over it. Normally he's worth a first rounder any old day of the week. We got dudded for Brad's compo due to the media rubbishing him. Wait and see they'll do the same with Matt. There are teams that'll take a long look at Matt.

Apart from Thilthorpe, they can choose any 5 players from our list in return for Rankine and Luko.

Doesn’t mean I don’t love our players, but in my eyes that would be a good deal for us!

You would be okay with us trading Doedee, Laird, Schoenberg, Pedlar and Sholl for Lukosius and Rankine?

They won't do the same thing to Matt

At this point you'd have to think hard about trading for Rankine.
Inside the culture concerns, boozy warning signs and failed leadership at the AFL’s $250m disaster club
In the midst of yet another horror season, go behind the scenes at the Gold Coast Suns as the warning signs, leadership failings and cultural issues are exposed.

Gold Coast Suns football boss Jon Haines goes by the nickname “The Cameraman” at AFL HQ.
It’s a moniker Haines earned spectacularly for himself after filming senior coach Stuart Dew urinating on a pub wall and posting it to friends on WhatsApp.

Alcohol has never been far from the equation at the hapless Queensland expansion club, as it was last Saturday night when the beers were flowing freely for a large group of players at the Burleigh Pavilion in Burleigh Heads.

Fresh off a listless 50-point loss to Port Adelaide, the celebrations spilled over to a raucous house-party at nearby Burleigh Waters that wound up in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Young players are allowed a social life, but for several observers it was another warning sign that the wheels are again falling off at the AFL’s $250 million disaster club.

I mean you do have to be careful, we all remember the famous Betts/Robinson picture.

They turned out alright.

Well at least it looks like there's SOME culture from that photo, and there's nothing wrong with socialising/having a good time, but maybe not after a 50 point loss.

But yeah, the AFL would want to start seeing some return for its investment soon. It just seems as if players are there for a payday, and all the best to them, because some of the money they're on just wouldn't be replicated anywhere else. Rory Atkins for 4 years just boggles the mind. This is what happens when there's minimal constraints/accountability on trading/contracts because they don't HAVE to get it right, they know concessions will be piled on by the AFL until they do get it right. This doesn't breed the right culture in terms of list management & recruitment, because they can just throw money at the problem.

Which of those 5 players have the potential to be top 10 players in the league? Because Rankine and Luko do.

Edit: would I be excited about doing it? No. I enjoy having those guys in our team. Would I do it? Yes.

"potential"

That's exactly where both players still sit for mine, Lukosius it seems more likely now will never be a true KPF/KPD despite his height so his role looks to be more the 3rd tall at both ends or a wingman, elite disposal his major asset. Rankine all the tricks but does he have the commitment required to get the best out of himself, seems to have become a selfish player and not a team player this season.
