Half - time at AAMI,

After a poor start we have slowly but surely clawed our way back into the game. Lead by 6 points after a fantastic torpedo from 50 by Potenschel.

However we are clearly making too many errors. Macca's kicking has been woeful at times, Rutten was always behind his man and basically refused to play in front, and Burton (not to mention Jericho) has disposed of the ball poorly.

Perrie has without a shadow of a doubt been our best player so far, has kicked 3 goals and taken some great marks.

Roo and Edwards also continuing their good form, Bock providing some run out of ( ) defence. Is now playing on Richo, who has only kicked 1 goal but has been dangerous around Centre Half Forward.

Our accuracy was terrible at the beginning but have been running down the corridor recently, hence our improved accuracy after 1/4 time.

Richmond aren't playing badly, just making mistakes throughout their disposal. No doubt they will come out firing.

Thoughts on the game so far?

(Post your thoughts here after the game as well)

Hentschel scored a great goal on half time, my girlfriend cut his hair on wednesday. Maybe thats why hes playing good :)

Anyways...

bout the game.

I think we're playing ok, lots of skill errors.

Cant get too excited, afterall we are playing Richmond.

Perrie, it annoys me when he plays like this because he rarely backs it up the next week. Very inconsistent.

Good win by the boys. The first quarter had me a little worried, and I started to wonder if we were going to lose.

Roo and Edwards were terrific as usual. And the Sarge kicked very well for goal. Although my mum told me that on the TV, Dermott was going on and on about that goal that Sarge got, which may have hit the post.

Great games from Ricciuto, Edwards and Hentschel...

Good win, but it was Richmond. Let's not forget we flogged them by 75 at Telstra Dome in Round 5.

Very happy with Hentschel's game today. Bloody hell he's got some talent doesn't he. I love the way he composes himself before shooting at goal - he has class. Looks like he is starting to bulk up a little as well.

Great to see our forward firing at last, although Welsh should have kicked 6. Harsh maybe, but still...

Just a few thoughts...

Great to see Potential back and to play so well, just seems to have so much time when he's got the ball and doesn't panick. Beautiful skills too.

Sarge was good at CHF again. Took a couple of good contested marks early and had his kicking boots on.

Roo and Edwards continued their great form and Clarkey dominated the ruck.

McLeod was better, but still didn't get enough of the ball.

Jericho dropped another sitter in the forward line, just like the Lions game.

The umpiring was bloody shocking. For Welshy to be called sheparding when Potential took the mark was ridiculous. It was in the back or nothing. And Scotty Stevens threw his man out of the contest in the last quarter and took the mark and there was no free kick. It was just bad all day.

Welshy didn't hit that Tigers bloke. That was right in front of me and Welshy bailed out and almost ended up falling on him, but the guy went down like he'd been shot. Laid on the floor for a few minutes and got up fine. The umpire was right on the spot, saw the incident and didn't call a free kick.

And Nathan Bassett gave me a high five. Woo!

He was good today wasn't he. As I've said a number of times, he might not be a star but he can certainly fill a void at CHF and take some physical pressure of the likes of Hentschel, Watts and Jericho.

His ability as a fearless, roaming, pack-busting CHF has never been questioned.

It's always been his lack of goalkicking ability and poor disposal which has seen him fail to utilise his potential as a prime avenue to goal - his well-documented lack of chances and pinch-hitting down back hasn't helped his cause either.

Richmond are crap! :D

We did enough to win by 52 points. I am happy with that.

Trent's goal right on half time was fantastic!

Trent's goal right on half time was fantastic!

Made even more fantastic by the fact that Nathan G. Brown was abusing the crap out of him as he lined up, then thought it was missing as it left the boot, told Potential what a great kick it was. When it went through he walked off with his head down, but Potential let him know about it. Got right in his face. Love it.

I thought Trent's skills under pressure was fantastic also. I'm very impressed with the player he has developed into compared to one year ago. He seems to have a safe pair of hands, and skillful goal kicking abilities, however was given some absolute brilliant passes from Roo!

I was very happy with Sarge....has increased his trading reputation by showing he can mark, and kick the ball when given the opportunuty to...Also worked very hard around the ball, and showed argression in chasing down...one in the third quarter I was very impressed with...I just hope he manages to keep the frame of mind he is in.

Riccuito held his head in all situations and his kicking abilities, never cease to amaze me. His pass to Shirley (I think) in the fourth....brilliant. I'll give you the hot tip; will come close to winning the brownlow. Edwards, got under the guard of the opposition...I'm waiting for a side to rate him as a damaging player. Clarkey...lovely ruck work...just eh; retire at the end of the year, for the good of the team and development of the squad. Leave on a high. :)

A absolute sitter...I couldn't believe it. However tried hard for possesions...certain misses and dropped marks had me disapointed...A spoil in the third, I thought, was a brilliant defense of the ball.

McLeod showed flashes...but, I'm still not impressed. (Granted, I'm hard to impress however)

I must admit at the start of the match I was scared of Ruttens pace (or lack of) on Richo...thought Richo had the first half over him, but came into the solid full back attitude in the last half...well done Truck. :)

Just on Perrie.

AFL.com.au says he took 14 marks. I knew he'd done well today but I hadn't realised he'd done THAT well.

Only five other players in the competition have taken as many or more marks in a single game this year (prior to this round at least.)

I guess thats what can happen when you deliver the ball well. (Against a team who wont place much pressure on you.)

Thoughts on the game:

1. None of our ruckmen are competent KPP's, so playing 3 of them is stupid. Biglands was lost at FF.

2. Ian Perrie reminded us once again that he will give us a competitive target at CHF. Without M Stevens & Carey, he is our best option (with the also capable Kenny best at CHB).

3. Hentschel is going to be a gun & along with Welsh & Sarge, gives us some firepower up forward.

4. Good move by Craig to switch Rutten to Schultz, after he dominated Bock in the 1st quarter. Bock is not strong enough yet for a KPP (more a flanker). His attempts to spoil were pathetic. IMO, Parker or Smith should be tried as Bock has had ample opportunities.

5. Roo & Edwards were fantastic again. McLeod is still cruising & looking disinterested most of the time. His disposal was slack at times. Gone handball happy too.

Changes for next week:
Outs: Biglands, Bock, Mattner & possibly Shirley depending on who is available.

Also, Sarge prevented well. Always ran hard into space to give us a target. Only criticism is he ran too wide a few times ... but he had sticky hands today & even though his kicking looks ugly, they usually go straight!

Rutten was doing OK on Richo in the 1st quarter, then spent most of the 2nd & 3rd keeping Shultz very quiet after he was looking very dangerous in the 1st quarter on Bock.

I don't know about Bock...IMO he just doesnt look strong enough, at the moment. I'm not sold on him being the "next best thing". IMO, Needs to build up more upper body strength. Parker is providing solid games in the SANFL, while Smith has recently got injured...Hamstring or thigh strain...not 100% sure. However I agree the two new rookies should have been given opportunity "over Bock". Bock has had a shot, but likes Fergus, needs to grow upper body strength.

How long is Kenny out for? IF he comes in, straight swap for Bock.

Mattner was disapointing today...I hope for his sake it's only a one-game dip in form.

By now you should have learned that Stiffy_18's exceptional scouting eye should never ever be questioned;):p

Absolutely. Just further adds to my belief before the game that it was a disgraceful decision to deny Parker his debut. What was the deal with playing Biglands and putting him forward?

Parker not only should have been in the side ahead of Biglands, he would have been a better option than Bock or S.Stevens.

I'm bloody excited about Hentschel. I think he can become a genuine star. He rarely wastes an opportunity - he has clean, sticky hands and is an excellent shot for goal. So calm and relaxed these days - great to watch.

Reilly will move into the midfield next year.

I might be the odd one out here but what I LOVED was Craig's willingness to leave Rutten at FB even when Richo was taken to CHF. That told me he is fair dinkum about building a backline spine and a player that plays the position rather than pick the player that best suits him. This is what Matthews has done with Leppa and Michael at the Lions and I think thats what Craig is trying to do with us. Granted our backman are not as good but they can be just as effective.

I don't know, maybe its the hangover BUT I never felt like we were in danger of losing that game. Even when Richmond jumped us in the first quarter and people around me where getting agitated I still had that feeling that we were never going to lose it and it was a matter of time before we broke the game open. Granted it took until the final quarter but we did it in the end anyway:)

Ruttens pace and agility has improved and I am sure that the new exercises that he is doing will improve it further.;)

Impressive win today, Hentshel and Perrie were standouts, I think Perrie may have just about saved his AFL career today, when he plays the way he did today he is a great asset to the team, Edwards delivery to the forwards was flawless today, we had a number of options up forward and they were well utilised. I thought we played more through the middle today, which is good to see. Was Clarke playing a 'sweeping' role across HB?? He seemed to be back there a bit and took a number a defensive marks in the first half. Thought alot of the kids played well Rutten was solid, Bock good and Jericho showed a bit as well ;)

Nice to see the crowd booing Marsh when he went near the ball :D
