He did what you'd expect any captain to do in that situation and defended his young player you turnip.
Ken shouldn’t have said what he said, however, imagine Boak in that situation, or most other captains present or past.
They would have separated them, not escalated, just like Impey did.
That is leadership.
Sicily looked like he was about to punch a coach.
The problem is the cocky Hawks have had smoke blown up their arses for too many weeks, seemed from some decisions to have the umps in their corner all game and just couldn’t take the heat.
It’s called sore losers.
Sicily and Mitchell were cry babies post game.
Not a good look. Hopefully Ginnvan matures from this and Mitchell and Sicily have some self reflection as Ken has.

Hinkley mouthing off after scraping in by the skin of his teeth against a young undersized team on his home deck after getting absolutely pantsed last week is hilarious. Everyone knows Ginnivan is a flog, Hinkley is double (almost triple?) his age and thinks it's a good idea to start gobbing off in front of the cameras? Probably needs to focus on limiting the damage next Friday because he will probably be on the unemployment line by Saturday.
Awwww

What's your point? He said a very young player and not a kid.

What on earth does age have to do with it? They’re all adults

Ginnivan is 21yo ffs, he’s not a child (even if he has the maturity of one)

Laughable spin from Mitchell to try to justify having a sook.

Not that Ginnivan himself even seems to have sooked it up - it’s Mitchell, Hodge, Lewis and the unsociable Hawks who seem to be so offended. Suck it up fellas, it’s some simple and harmless banter between opponents.

Weddle's younger than Ginnivan and Mitchell had no problem publicly ripping shreds off him for dropping a mark in a game. Massive overreach for him with the "Older man acting very aggressively towards a younger man" stuff, once he broke out of his catatonic state in the press conference.

Just say you were proud of your captain for leading from the front after the game and you're not taking any more questions about it.

Sam is a sook, but in fairness to him, it was a dumb question to ask at that moment with emotions flying wild. I'm sure he will once the dust settles.
Who will win out of this the most are the vultures in the media cycle anyway. They call it a big story lol.
Always scratching for dirt and pickings.

Yes. I think a lot would have had more respect for him if he did that.

Exactly and what a baby was Mitchell saying he wouldn’t take a call from Ken to smooth things over. Absolute petulance.

wonder what ken and mitchell were saying to each other as they shook hands on the boundary line. ken was performing a hands down motion IIRC

You give a shit alright . . . your elected government paid a gazzilion dollars to lock the GF to Victoria until all current people living in the world are dead. . . .and they did it because you give a shit.

lol that was a deal between the VFL and the MCC, it cost a lot of money to redevelop the MCG and the Federal government didn't pay a dime so the project had to be largely self-funded and to be able to achieve that, big brained people projected how much access to sports like football and cricket they would need access to in order to recoup what it cost to build those stadium improvements.

It was a decision based on financial requirements to get the funding. That deal has been adjusted numerous times with the approval of ALL of the interstate clubs and they agreed to extend the deal long after the initial 50 year period so interstate teams could have greater access to finals, games that otherwise would have had to be played at the MCG. There was a binding contract and the MCC didn't have to adjust the deal but it made it a lot fairer that they did. All interstate clubs were either a party to this deal or knew that this agreement was in place before they joined the AFL.

Time and again, the interstate clubs have agreed to things that aren't in the best interest of the fans in other states but are in the best interest of maintaining the status quo, to the WAFL and SANFL, the AFL is primarily an investment that helps to fund their state competition. Back when Port was in a financial shithole, the AFL offered to purchases the licenses back off for the SA and WA clubs and hand them to the clubs, giving them true independence. Both the SANFL and WAFL or their controlling bodies refused to return the licenses to the members of these clubs so you need to get off your moral high horse. You are just a commodity to those who own your clubs, they don't give a shit about you or your pissant anti Victorian bias.

Dunno but even though we look forward to Ken leaving Port he is usually effusive to oppo teams before and after wins and losses, always gives them credit, which infuriates us at times.
I think Mitchell wanted to cry because he lost. Maybe he will mature as a coach out of this, the almost crying in the presser didn’t look good.

From a match play perspective, Port denied Hawks a lot of time and space off half back and wing. The decision to apply a hard tag on DAmbrosio was in the end a good decision.

Hawks backline stood up against admittedly poor quality inside 50s but there was a heap of them one stage. I've always found Scrimshaw a tad overrated by Hawthorn supporters, but he was excellent last night standing up and repeatedly taking good marks.

Lloyd Meek in many respects is one of the real stories at Hawthorn this year. Another very good performance.

The difference in Ports application and preparedness to tackle was stark to what they dished up the previous week. I don't know how they vary so much within a week but that seems to be their way. I can't see them getting past Swans next week
I find it mental how people have been banging on about how game breaking their system is.

“Hokball” is literally switch the ball and spread the field. It’s pretty basic footy. Works against shit teams that can’t keep up but when you run into sides that can shut it down, that also have more elite talent than you, then you’re f*cked.

Oh! the one where the Hawthorn captain ignored his retiring player so he could have a sook at the oppo coach? That one ;)

He wasn't having a sook (didn't see any tissues!)
He was rightfully giving Kenny a rev up before Kenny's acceptance of the Jock McHale medal after the 2024 grand final ;)

Only a Port supporter could wear an underdog status in a home final (after finishing top 4) as a badge of honour 😂
Not honour, but fact based on an entire AFL supporter base.

You were favourites
You lost

Just don’t tell Sam, he’s upset enough as it is
