Because it's also Geelong's 'home' ground for 4 games a year? Due to its irregular shape (the Cats play and train there 5 or 6 times every week, the Tigers don't train at the MCG so only get to use it once every two weeks) Skilled Stadium is simply too great an advantage to play finals there and they're extremely fortunate to play H&A there. The fairest venue is the MCG, by a LONG way.

But the choice of venue should be purely to do with the higher placed team. Nothing to do with the lower placed team, they haven't earned it.
We havent even gotten to the issues of a guaranteed home ground Grand Final yet.

Haha. You now see that isn't straight forward. We play on a largely neutral ground against Victorian opposition and thus we do not get a big advantage. Once we get to finals we get a small advantage against other Victorian teams. Geelong has a big advantage at home but loses out a bit in finals.

I think that's a fair compromise. And obviously so do the AFL.

Coupla points: If Geelong actually played the big Melbourne clubs more often at home during the H and A season they might have a point, but they are happy to take the financial benifits of playing in Melbourne and the advantage of playing mostly interstate and weaker clubs at home.

Geelong are forced to play 2 games at the mcg for contract reasons. They have stated time and time again that they want to play every game at Simmonds. They would have made more money for instance playing Collingwood at home then the mcg

Just as I thought. You feel entitled to get all the benefits of having a huge home ground advantage without compromise. You are happy for your club to pay for the toilets at your new stadium while the tax payer pays for the rest. Then you are happy to profit handsomely when home games are played there. But the moment anyone asks you to compromise you shout out blue murder.

Secondly, the MCG is a neutral ground, a premier ground and the home of footy, you should be greatful that the match has been moved to such a stellar ground.

Maybe Geelong should have built a stadium that's suited to finals football and then the match would be played there and the whining would cease. But they didn't. Too bad. Richmond went through the upheaval of moving, although from a football perspective they might have won more games and flags if they'd stayed at PRO and finals were played there.

They're so corrupt they don't even understand that the above quote is a complete conflict of interest. The AFL shouldn't have any concerns about any players staying or moving to any club. It's an absolute disgrace.

They did the same thing with Buddy, saying they'd pay him as an ambassador to go to GWS. Then they stop other clubs having players with 3rd party deals (Cotton On were going to pay Ablett if he stayed at Geelong from memory which they AFL knocked on the head).

They are circumventing their own salary cap, such a laughable farce of an organisation.

They pick and choose, they had a problem with the Ablett 3rd party deal but 'investigated' Judd being sponsored by the club presidents business and apparently that was ok. If Judd's deal was keeping him from going to an expansion team you can bet your ass they'd have found issues. I think years later they had to pay it all under the cap, but it was very transparent.

For the record Richmond have played 697 games at the MCG and Geelong 319. Richmond have played 51 games at SS and Geelong 661. This year Richmond played 11 games at the MCG and Geelong 5 At SS Richmond 1, Geelong 7 (including us). Some teams didn't play at SS at all and I wonder how many oppo supporters would be whining if they had to play finals down at the dung heap. "But they earned it!". Yeah right. They got their advantage during the year, with no return match at OUR (playing only) home ground.

So by this logic Essendon should be furious they're having to play Sydney at the SCG and GWS should be similarly upset about playing the Crows at Adelaide Oval. Both been there and done that in 2017 with no return match.

But you are using the word "neutral" where it has no relevance.
Where Richmond are from should have no relevance to where the game is played. Neutrality should have nothing to do with it.
Substitute in the words "fairer to the higher placed team that has earnt a home advantage" and you will get the idea.
The fact that, in a professional competition, Richmond could win a flag playing two "away" finals at home is just amazing.

The MCG played host to 3 matches that weekend. That is why it was played at KP. It was extenuating circumstances. It is the only final ever played there. The AFL has an obligation to the members of finals teams to be able to purchase tickets to see the game. Having 17K members out of 74K is outrageous when the MCG is vacant. As posted, if they built an 60-80k stadium down at Geelong, we probably would not be having this discussion.
