Considering the current issues in Australia this little sponsorship for the AFL European League, not sure how much it's worth in $$$ terms but it must be a brave move in the middle of finals footy.

Does this make the AFL more of a target?

AFL Europe receives financial support from the AFL and promotes the code in 22 European countries.

Last week, the ABC questioned the AFL about the sponsorship deal with Brunei's state airline.

The agreement came amidst a worldwide boycott campaign aimed at businesses owned by the Sultan of Brunei after he imposed harsh Sharia laws in his country.

Good good airline Brunei. maybe it is just vlad without any ethics considerations.

How much cash were they getting from them?

Can't imagine it's a great deal, would be interesting of Branson was found to be beating his wife up or something

Main reason is probably because they don't serve alcohol.

It does highlight the risk the AFL takes in branding all these other leagues with the AFL name. It means everything negative that occurs in those leagues will come back to bite the AFL. The AFL probably had nothing to do with the sponsorship, yet they're getting questioned about it? If AFL Europe was called Australian Football Europe with their own branding, there's no way the media would have brought it up.

But AFL Europe would have had a big involvement in the IR games in Ireland you'd think wouldn't they, maybe even Brunei Air was going to take the team and all the others media ect ect to Ireland from Australia.

probably wasnt cash at all, as far as Im aware it was flying players from europe to here, particularly UK players and only for the international cup. that said, it was the only real sponsor they had.
