I wasn’t happy about this though... losing the hard work I did on a few custom players...
Well the Evo data itself is not the patch so you could have kept that data the same as it tells you before you download it that custom teams and players are affected.
I made about two custom players so will be interested how they are affected after this Evo data download I doing now.
Patch downloaded about 10 minutes ago already, so now gone to Gameday section to do the Evo data update after it.

haven't played much of it so far post patch other than a quick game.. my impression so far is that it's less clunky and plays out smoother. audio fixes are there. the ai has definitely been tuned up. shame about having to start a new career after the patch though, was really getting far into my swans save.

only odd thing i've noticed is after tackles, the ai fling the ball anywhere and everywhere.. but maybe that's due to the sliders i'm using?

Curious to hear some more impressions. I was luckily only 3-4 games (including pre-season) into my career mode but I agree that sucks for people.

Despite my perceived negativity I do genuinely want the game to improve and do well, not just because I spent 70 bucks on it but for the sake of the industry.

I continued two more rounds of the coach career mode I was in.
Given some of posts I read just before I downloaded patch (and then also got the new Evo data from Gameday section), I would have expected some differences in custom player looks etc but not seen any thing that ruined what I had of my custom team before this. So on that front pleasantly surprised all good. Mind you, the player I did play around with look of in creating a player is out injured so maybe when he back he might look different. Guess will find that in time.
Those two games I played before sleep I noticed the crowd noise was way closer to in sync for when a team scored a goal. Also Gary Lyon special comments, is at least in line with the team doing better now... ha ha.

Not seen anything bad yet but only played two 20 minute games so I look forward to playing more and learning how to still work my controls better as I still crap at spoiling and marking and a few other things I need to work on.

The new patch uploaded - haven't played the game in a week or so. Initial thoughts are this is what the game should have been on release - I play the AI mostly and where I was crapping on opponents in the All Australian level, the AI have greatly improved to give me a belting on Veteran level. Couple of things:

- Opponents are more accurate in front of goal, which makes all the difference;
- No more kicking out on the full with zero pressure;
- They were able to do more link play and hit targets which was nice;
- More dispossession in tackles for both user and the AI instead of just flat out holding the ball - this is a nice touch though its probably swung too far in the one direction than not;
- Annoying glitches such as the ruckman have appeared to have disappeared which is good;
- Crowd noises after goals are noticeably better - haven't heard too many chants either (they appear to have scaled these back considerably)

Its a more competitive game which is nice but still need to play a bit more. Only downside I have seen (no doubt there will be more) is the replays after goals are very jerky and difficult to watch.

You reminded me of the ruck thing. Did not have any backman in ruck these games which is great step forward.
My 22 did not have a genuine second ruck, so had Kernahan nominated as my 2nd ruck in roles options. He was full forward in starting 18, Kreuzer in ruck and Aaron Naughton on bench. I noticed when Kruezer went off for any reason Kernahan was rucking and Naughton was up forward which is sensible. Only slight weird thing I seen was at times Kreuer came back on and seen him after Sticks had taken the centre bounce ruck. So I assume Naughton went off at one point Kruezer back on but not automatically back to ruck spot on field. I did see him later on rucking again but in two games I had Sticks was doing more centre bounces than I expected. Probably 55% or a little more.

The Evo update from April did make some weird changes to downloaded players (downloaded Nick Riewoldt was likely built off the licensed Max Lynch player, so the Evo Update reset him to Max Lynch).

But this is different... I made sure all my players weren’t going to get that type of reset, by testing them with the April Evo update. Had to even replace some of them, because I noticed this happened.
It might be the May Evo Update that screwed this up, or a combination of the May Evo Update and the 1.02 patch... not sure.

Hey guys, here's a look at the post that's just about to go live on Facebook.

The next update patch for AFL Evolution 2 has arrived for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One!
The update for Nintendo Switch is currently awaiting approval and will be released as soon as possible.

Some of the key changes (many based on fan feedback) you will find in this update are:
  • Performance improvements for all platforms, but especially Switch.
  • Added Performance option in Options > Graphics menu that allows for higher performance in exchange for visual quality and functionality.
  • Enhancements to crowd atmosphere and other game audio.
  • Numerous adjustments to gameplay such as umpiring, default run speed and tackle distances, ability to play on, ruckman selection, and speccy strength.
  • AI improvements including kicking accuracy and interchange behaviour.
  • Multiple career issues addressed, including duplicate players, injuries and fixtures.
  • Improvements to online gameplay.
  • Trophy/Achievements are now all possible to complete.
  • Plus much, much more!
You can find the full patch notes at www.wickedsports.com.au/community/afl-evolution-2/afl-evolution-2-1-02-patch-notes

There will be more to come as work on the next update is already underway!

Guessing there will be no retraction now that they got the patch out when they said they would lol

Well no they didn't and admitted it took longer than they thought but weren't far off. It's fine, because they communicated that.

If this one sells well, which it seems to be getting along nicely so far, Id be pretty excited for the next one.

This one isn't quite there but you can see the potential improving, I feel another one in 2 years or so could be a significant jump, depending on the cost differences to develop on the new PS5 system.

There was a milestone in the FIFA games where it took a real jump and started to approach realism. Ive often said this AFL game plays like a PS2 sports game. I feel the next AFL game is ready for that transition with the PS5. But the developers will need to make many and survive or another bigger dev will need to see good unit sales from this to take the risk.

Just played first game since update (highest difficulty, same sliders as previously posted), and Port played like a real AFL side.
heaps more accurate switching (which occasionally still failed which is good), played keepings off me a bit, and importantly, with me coming back from 2 goals down with 4mins to go, they defended like crazy.

I had to resort to the old bombing it down the line, 5 points down, 90sec to go, and they just had numbers there, got the ball, and kept it off me.

Very very enjoyable (despite the loss)

Patch seems good overall. Noticed a few differences, like an animation when you’ve been bumped, that looks new. Or maybe it was an evade... not sure.

Performance mode is interesting. Low - normal settings, Medium - Crappy Crowd (like what the Nintendo Switch has), High - No crowd. Coronavirus Games!

I wasn’t happy about this though... losing the hard work I did on a few custom players...

I haven’t checked yet, but it would be massively disappointing if custom player likenesses are ruined.

I spent ages making some greats - Leigh Matthews, KB, Superboot - they all looked great pre-patch...

Would the patch update in the north american version aswell?

If you purchased it from the US store digitally then you need to get the update once they release it for the US specifically as there will be a different product code. If you purchased digitally from Australian store then log into the Australian account you used to make the purchase, it will update.

I you purchased a disk then it will be UK/AusPac region (SCEE), make an Australian account (free) and log into that, it will then update based off the disk.

Facts and reality don't mesh with him.

Finally not having a midget ruck and the AI not being brainless makes a significant difference.

Ruck issue does seem fixed although it might've created another issue.
I can live with Houli rotating through the middle but Nank and Soldo is a bit rich.
Legend level is definitely harder post patch, better goal accuracy and less out of bounds with sliders all reset to 50.
Way less holding the balls and the handball comes out more often.
Have already turned CPU fending down though as it was getting ridiculous.

AI is definitely smarter. I just played for the first time in a few weeks so there was probably a bit of rust showing, but I just got absolutely annihilated by 10 goals vs Richmond on a difficulty I felt ready to move up from last time I played.

Also found another bug while playing that game. Took a goal saving mark, went back to take the kick and immediately after kicking it was called for a rushed behind. :drunk:
