Why isn't he getting paid more than Buddy?

Because he's not as good as Buddy. One could also say, Buddy doesn't do his ankle we win the Grand Final.

Now I'm no Richards basher, but if Reid was playing instead of XR, we would have won that game.

I'm staggered that so many people can't see the value that Reid brings to the table.

Reid isn't worth 4 goals a game on his own, and the gap between him and someone who was already playing definitely isn't 4 goals

If you judge the value of 4 goals as being taking marks 30m out and slotting goals, no, he is probably not.

If you judge 4 goals of value in keeping certain defenders accountable, preventing easy run out of half back, switching to a defensive role when Tom Boyd starts to find his range, causing Tippet to be isolated one on one in the goal square......etc etc.

It wasn't a 4 goal game and you know it. It was 1 point with 7 minutes to go. It was a game about periods of ascendancy. Reid would have given us greater value for our periods of ascendancy than XR and would have been a handy and effective intercept mark during the periods of Dogs ascendancy. Even with the other things that went against us, which are well covered in other threads, I have no doubt that Reid playing would have led to a far different outcome.

You know you've got sw51 beat when he doesn't respond...he'd hate it too!

Interesting. Did you think it was moronic?

No I think both points have merit. But I don't think anyone can say for certain that had Reid played we definitely would or would not have won.

Anyway this isn't about what I think. SF51 will probably delete this for being off topic.

That 2018 list is fairly large now with some significant talent which we may not have valued as highly when we signed their last contracts. The few that stand out to me are probably Double A, Paps, Hewy & Marshy (given he gets a run this year over Laids).

It'll be interesting where Naisy, Tippo & Sinkers are in the pecking order at that point too. If Tippo spends another year or so injury free he should be able to squeeze out 1 last good contract but I'm not sold he will be in the position to demand too much if Naisy really stands up in the meantime.

NicNew also an interesting one. I hope he gets a good crack this year along with Marsh.

Big year coming up leading into contract negotiations. Hopefully it spurs a few to launch their careers into the stratosphere.

Going to be interesting. I reckon Heenz, Jones, Hewy, DoubleA & Millsy would all be getting massive offers thrown at them by rivals.

I think Heenz & Millsy are fairly safe to stay on.

The one I worry about the most is Jones. He & his brother have a very strong relationship & maybe Zak wants to play with Nath before Nath hangs them up?

Not sure about AA or Hewy. I'd hope they could see they are the next group of best 18s & if they stay they are in the best place to reward effort. Not sure of Georges strength of family connection in SA but I do know AA has a fairly strong family connection in WA which could be a worry (I'm thinking Freo would love him & throw the kitchen sink at him).

I reckon that'll be it for Macca.

Reid, Talia & BJack are all in the same boat re: need to show something in 17 to either create interest from rivals or to be rewarded. At this stage they aren't priorities unfortunately IMO. Perhaps they can push themselves up the order with a solid consistent year though.

I reckon the most talk will be around JPK. I reckon the Hawks are creating space for him. They are envisioning Hodge & Burgoyne both heading off into the sunset with the triumphant return of a Kennedy. It's a long shot, I don't think he'll go, but anythings possible. Where theres an emotional connection it's hard to discount the option.
