Should've posted the list without context and asked people to guess what it was 🤣

was better than Essendons final series
I'll give you a challenge. Try to post nothing negative about the club or any of the players for a week. I don't think you could do it.

I’d argue bzt has more upside as a defender. Has played a lot less games and his body is only starting to mature now, only 1 year older than duursma. Duursma has stagnated the past 2-3 years to the point where his ceiling may just be an average c grade player. Isn’t a great kick, can’t win his own ball, isn’t overly strong overhead, weak in the contest. Personally I’d take my shot at the draft with a pick in the 30s over bringing him in
Isnt overly strong overhead or win his own ball?
We talking about Xaiver Duursma that plays for port yeah? The one that is 23 months ( so 2 years) younger and has stagnated to 2 collision injuries?

Oliver is better than what we have brought in previously but the thinking is exactly the same as when we got Shiel / Saad / Stringer . I am saying that their is every chance the blokes you mentioned are not part of out contending team . We need leadership / professionalism / culture change . That is what we need . If Oliver had any of that then I have no issue but he has basically been told to get serious or * off. This is typical Essington again . We spend a couple of years in the draft and think we are close again so we need to top up. Yes we need some star players but we do not need ones with crack pot attitudes.

As for the Shiel trade which "you " mentioned while quoting me . When we traded for him Parish was only a junior fry . McGrath was someone we where trying to turn into a midfield. Shiel was actually our second best midfielder. The issue has come after that by trading for Caldwell (another small midfielder) and then having Hobbs fall into our lap. Shiel was the right player at the time. 2019 proved that. problem was he got injured and we did bring in a bigger midfielder. Now he has had injury issues and we have some young blokes pushing up. There was nothing wrong with the Shiel trade at the time.

Oliver is currently a train wreck who needs much more leadership than we can provide right now.

To make it simple. Give up first round picks and a player for Tom Green yes. Give up multiple picks for a bloke who is off the rails . No.
I can completely understand the reservations some may have regarding his off-field antics and accept that he may not be the right choice given our lack of leadership, but I don't accept that it's an Essendon of old decision or that it's taking shortcuts. Remove his off-field concerns and he is exactly what we need and fits our list demographic well. Ideally he would have been a year or two younger, but that doesn't really make much difference.

I disagree re Shiel being the right decision because our midfield mix was still off. Anyway there's no point of discussing this given Oliver is no longer coming.

As a port man i hope duursma is worth more than BZT in a trade

Higher upside
Younger
In contract

His issue is his turnovers are shockers whilst some players turnovers dont look "that" bad

In 2022 he put on some size (not fat just too much muscle) and lost some running power, then copped a bad injury to his ankle

In 2023 he looked back to his usual self early before doing a PCL in may

Massive confidence player
Sorry but KPPs are more valuable than non-defensive wingers in bad form. BZT is coming off his best year and Duursma is arguably at his worst coupled with injury concerns. This is on top of BZT being wanted by Essendon and Port shopping Duursma around.

The only reason it will be a straight swap is because Duursma is contracted for another year and BZT is out of contract.

If BZT was played in his rightful position of 2nd or 3rd tall, then he'd be worth a late first rounder right now.

But here we are discussing the prospect of an out of sorts wingman being worth more.

Maybe in another draft but certainly not this years, I’m taking Duursma over a pick in the 30s this year every day of the week.
Where’s the cliff this year?

I think a few of our posters would fail this challenge 🤔

Hi guys. Don't over pay for him Xav D - below is courtesy of a prankster on our board. I will see myself out now:D

You trying to talk Duursma up or talk him down?

Caldwell was never seen as being apart of the top 5-6 even in his underage year. Was always seen on the next rung of players.

My only point is we don’t know who we wouldve drafted in 17 18 or 19 with those picks we gave up.
False. Caldwell Was rated by many as the second best midfielder in a draft that included sam Walsh and Bailey smith, but slid due to injuries.
