Parish for Dempsey is delusion
I stated that you throw bid money at Dempsey in the hope Geelong can’t match. If you get to that stage you may have parish to use as a way of getting a deal done.
It is all moot as Dempsey is staying at Geelong and we have parish for 4 more years

The top end doesn’t suck. The difference is depth of KP and the depth drops away a lot quicker.
That’s why you want top 30 picks which we have.

So not 2020 bad? Because Cal Twomey made it sound diabolical on gettable the other day. Reckons that most of the 2023 and some of the 2024 top 10 would have gone pick 1 this year. And that CDT is easily pick one.

The inference being that the quality is quite poor.

We really only need the top 15 or so to be good, which I think it is. I’m not really fussed on the depth, as you said, in our situation, not really relevant to us

We will see.

Reckon that’s just sensationalism from cal, he even mentioned caddy 😂 maybe in retrospect. Like to say Watson would go pick 1 in this year is just silly. No one would ever take a 170cm small forward pick 1 I don’t care how good they are.

Zach Package, these are the 14 players out of contract. We must take 3 picks/acquisitions in the off season but with 2 x top 10s, Sweid (10 - 25), El-Achkar (20-40) and a further two picks in the second round that is a hell of a talent influx

If we are to move on the right amount of spots, including the possibility of maybe 2/4 MSD picks then we are looking at up to 7 of the 14 listed below moved on if I have worked this out correctly.

** Nick Bryan
Alwyn Davey Jnr
** Sam Draper
Todd Goldstein
** Ben Hobbs
Jayden Laverde
Luamon Lual
** Zach Reid
** Will Setterfield
Dylan Shiel

Saad El~Hawli
Jye Menzie
Jaxon Prior
** Vigo Visentini

** Jayden Nguyễn (Cắt B Rookie)

** these are the ones I desperately want to keep, the rest either are let go or are traded for the right collateral.

Interestingly enough, we had the ability to add two extra spots (36 senior + 6 rookie = 42/44 max list spots), this means 2 of these mid seasons could be kept on regardless of list changes at years end. Thiswould obviously alter our ability with our draft hand (Melbourne 1st, Essendon 1st, Essendon 2nd, St.Kilda 2nd, Sweid, El-Achkar) are likely 6 selections to the senior list

And here again is my concern; are Sweid and El Achkar good performers in a weak draft class?
Just because they're in our NGA doesn't mean we should take them.
We don't take every father-son.

Ive watched most of there games this year and a fair bit of hyperbole in the media is just that.

Sweid imho is in the 20 - 40 range. El-Achkar has some tricks but inconsistency and poor finishing has harmed his chances of sky rocketing into the top 15 like he should.

A big championships against the best will no doubt elevate or depreciate in ranking

Essendon selected a hack midget back pocket player with pick 1, so I could see them using pick 1 on a 170cm small forward.

Don't tell me we've got two top 10 (potentially top 5) picks and the top end of the draft sucks! Is this 2016 McGrath and 2020 Cox Perkins Reid all over again?
The top end of the draft didn't get us Martin, Durham, Roberts or Clarke either. Top 10 picks are the most overrated thing if we've got a good list manager

Wardius continues to kick goals for GWS in the VFL. Saw him live yesterday bag 3 against Port: very good mover, reads the play well, forward craft is excellent and is a very neat left foot shot at goal (similar player to Fritsch but less selfish). We should offer him a 3 year deal.

This is such crap.

Imagine how good a team finding that level of talent later in the draft would be if they didn’t mess up the top 10 picks

Nah, cats haven’t used the top end of the draft to build their team. Shrewd trades and good use of late picks have built their team.

Swans somewhat similar.

Cats used top-end picks and F/S to build their team in the mid 00s, develop a great culture, and have basically been able to drag in top talent whenever they want because of it.

Got Dangerfield for a steal, paid nowhere near as much for Cameron as 'three first round picks!' makes it sound, they brought in Smith for a late first and a downgrade of their 2nd.

Geelong
Receives: Bailey Smith, pick 45
Gives up: Picks 17, 38

Swans have also done well out of Academy players, plus they have actually had some top end picks.

Here's some of their first round picks that are still playing and at the club (they've had some busts and traded some out):

2020: #4 Logan McDonald + #5 (Academy match) Braeden Campbell
2018: #10 (Academy) Nick Blakey
2016: #11 Florent +#21 Hayward
2015: #4 (Academy) Mills
2014: #18 (Academy) Heeney

Cats bring in a star every couple of years. Danger, Cameron, Sniff, come into the best coached and best run club in the comp. Which guns have we recruited in the past twenty years that have won or competed for Brownlow medals or led us to successful periods?
