Ridley and Reid perennially injured. Ben McKay a decent fullback.

We didn't find any kpd's in the mid season draft.

Unless I'm missing something, we really need to invest in a couple of quality matured kpd's. At least 1.

Who though?
Rosa disagrees, didn’t even pick up a genuine key back in the msd.
Plenty of key backs out there than can be picked up cheap. Frost is an option, but other teams would be ahead of us in terms of need.

I think Hayes has be very durable till his first afl game, but the others have suspect injury history’s.

Reid Ridley McKay is potentially a lot of money/ years tied up to injury prone players.

Just on this last point,

I know Essendon fans are gonna shut this down, but would people potentially put our Reid into a Harley Reid deal?

I love Zach as a player but but injury concerns and long term deal/money worry me.

What would a deal look like?

Let's say it does happen again, probably safe speculation to say at worst, they come good and play out the year. Maybe they get injured again during the first half of 26?
Two things; this year we use Laverde while we have him and then consider dumping him off. We lose more than we win, but that's okay because I (we?) want tge pointy end of the draft anyway.
Two, we can then pick up a KPD in the 26 MSD.

I'm okay with it. We picked up McMahon anyway and we have tge opportunity to pick up another stop-gap in this year's Rookie Draft. Same same, but we can kind of tactically tank Rosa's way.

Nah not worth it. Giving up an elite talent to get one doesn’t make you that much better

I’d say the offer from us for Reid would be some combination of Guelfi, Hobbs, Nick Bryan and 2-3 good FRP. More than that doesn’t feel worth it.

Sorry, 2 best 22 players + 2 or 3 first rounders?

Please come back to Earth.

Guelfi and Hobbs are both Fringe Best 22 assuming a healthy list (and in danger of being pushed out by the new academy draftees) and picks worth about 2000 draft points feels like the going rate.

It’s a steep price to pay but it’s a highly competitive market and chances at this level of talent don’t come around that often

I like your posts Jd, but this reads like the Dodgy Brothers have convinced you to pay $50 for a small box of 2 and a half inch hose bits.

Don’t get me wrong I’d love to do it for less.

I think Hobbs for Reid is a logical starting point given the Role Hobbs is currently being used in. Both younger players who were high picks and have shown good progress during their time in the AFL.

Then it’s just about what you’d have to add on top of that to make it happen.

I believe that it will be a lot and require multiple firsts at minimum. I’d be happy to be wrong

I think 3 first round picks is enough for Reid. 2 of those will be top 10 before academy and NGA. Obviously next years pick is a mystery.

I’d just rather include Hobbs/Guelf and pay less in terms of picks.
Not sure WC would. Guelfi has no real value as far as trade goes. You are talking 3rd round stuff. It is pretty simple. If we want Reid we will have to pay overs.

Norf got a first, second and two third rounders from memory for Horne-Francis so our first offer shouldn't be anymore than that

More than enough. I'd start with 2 first rounders, likely top ten, and would find it very difficult to budge beyond that unless something were coming back the other way.

The Cats paid three R1s for a player who is a star. Reid is likely but there are no guarantees.

3 frps for both Reid’s?

Previous value never really comes into it. I would not be at more than 2 first round picks myself but he is contracted and the price will be what it is.

Better value from my view, but who does Archer Reid supercede?

Edit: Soz, to elaborate;
Caddy
Wright
May
and one of Draper/Bryan, I don't see where AReid is unless he's a depth tall in the VFL. Good comp for May but I'm not sure if he's surplus to needs.

Also - why would West Coast let him walk when Allen is going to leave & Waterman can’t stay fit?

Yeah but this draft apparently stinks. And that’s without taking into account that half the draft will be snapped up by NGAs.

I’m a little dubious on Reid, but if there was ever a draft to trade out of, this is the one.

If Reid agreed to come to us, I’d just pay up.

One of those firsts was a top 3 pick

Given that it typically takes 2 picks to trade up a round in practice that’s 1 top 3 pick and a first for JHF

Reid’s price is likely similar but also inflated due to the rule changes about trading future picks.

It’s going to take a massive haul to get him especially given his contract status.

I suspect we’ll make a very competitive offer. That it will be more then we’d like to pay and less then what west coast would want
