This is a big deal for women's footy on the Gold Coast. Not only do we now have a third team in the top level QAFLW competition with Southport joining Bond University and Coolangatta, but it happens to be the Southport Sharks who will put forward some serious money and resources to ensure they win flags & produce AFLW players. I suspect Southport will win a QAFLW premiership within the next two years and will produce many future AFLW players for us. It's also nice to have a QAFLW team that's geographically located further north to give the girls of the northern GC a better option to play top level state footy. Bond can continue to pull players from the central GC and Cooly obviously pulls talent from the southern GC. We're in a strong position going forward in terms of grassroots women's footy.
