Far from it.

Luke Breust averages more disposal, clearance, 1%, inside 50's, contested possessions, contested marks and Cyril is ahead of Breust.

Goals is a pretty important stat for a small forward.

Edit - I also like how you left out that Betts has more goal assists, more tackles, and more marks inside 50 - stats that are quite important for a small forward.

True to extent. Though the previous poster said that the 'other small forward position' could be taken by one of Breust or Rioli.

Apart from Betts who else has been a standout small forward?

Hawthorn has three small forwards with 20+ goals. Considering Breust has already kicked 25 goals at the half way point, it's not impossible for him to make the final team.

Possibly Breust. He has been great and importantly not many standouts in other teams.

The previous poster though mentioned that Betts wasn't a lock and implied he would be displaced by one of Breust or Rioli.

Wow. Talk about selective stats. Betts is ahead in most categories that small forwards are usually measured on.

Will the ruck spot come down to how many intercept possessions and rebound 50's Goldstein has?

So the only stat that counts is goals? Thanks coach, doesn't matter betts has went goalless twice already?

News just in - player has bad game, immediately out of All Australian contention.

I didn't imply anything all I said was Betts wasn't lock, I'm not quite sure why that's such insane idiotic opinion to have.

No however it is a factor you have to consider. or is that again dumb, please tell me?

Betts is indisputably the best small forward at the moment. Hence, lock. You implied that Breust and Rioli have been just as good, if not better. I found that quite silly.

I haven't seen anyone else agree with your contention so far in this thread.

I find the motion that a player thats been slightly better as a lock and the mention of other players being picked in the side to be moronic to be stupid. The better part was a throw away line, the difference between them isn't so large that Betts would be an automatic selection.

With the way the Dogs nullified Goldstein and Gawn, a decent game from Naitanui today will have him firmly as my AA ruck. Somehow the Dogs just ground opposition ruckman into submission without really having a starring ruck of their own.

I've been hesitant to have Gunston in the 22 due to Waite's spectacular all round game in the early part of the season. He really was doing everything. I think it might be about time to have another look at that. Frawley good again. Those are the two Hawks I would have in the 22 right now. Mitchell has dropped off a bit compared to his early form. I think Stratton has been great but it's typically so hard for lockdown mediums/smalls to make the side at all. Rioli and Breust also on the periphery and could certainly enter the discussion depending on the second halves of their years. Breust was a bit slow to start and Rioli hasn't been quite as consistent as he normally is.

If he's the best ruckman in those areas then definitely in my mind.

Kennedy's and Naitanui's credentials take a hit.
Naitanui was alright in the ruck but Dogs too good in the contest and stifled his impact. Our midfielders were woeful.
Plus he didn't impact at all around the ground apart from contesting some marking contests on the wing which he spoiled.
Kennedy nowhere to be seen.

Seems to be a full midfield mindset.
They nullified any impact we might have had in the ruck today.

Breust, Puopolo and Rioli are all better than Betts.

It's their selfless teamwork and sharing that masks this to stats readers.

Betts is a goal hog who rarely tackles and is not in their league.

IMO Simon Godfrey and Ben Beams were better midfielders than Shane Crawford. You just couldn't see it due to their selflessness.

:footy:

Hilarious stuff but I can guarantee Clarko would not trade any of Poppy, Breust or Rioli for Betts.

Want proof.

The Giants offered picks 2 and 5 for Breust and we said no. Cameron knows exactly how good he is.

Anyone think Betts could claim that offer is off their rockers ...

Citation needed. I find that close to impossible to believe.
