Good work :thumbsu:
Relevance.
Can/Should Ablett be the third ?
I dont think it sends the right message to the players. Maybe if he was a KPF that had kicked 60-70 by that time, but do u leave out Pendlebury/Fyfe/Kennedy/Rockliff etc etc to hand a slot to a rover for 2/3rds of a season ?
Squad for sure...i wouldnt pick him in the 22 but he's a name player so spin the wheel. Judd could get a brownlow vote for simply parking his car in the right spot when he turned up :)..so why not Ablett making AA for only 15 games ?

What about all the players who have played 22 games it's not fair

B: Daniel Talia - Eric Mackenzie - Nick Smith
HB: Pearce Hanley - Cale Hooker - Nick Malceski
C: Dyson Heppell - Josh P. Kennedy - Jordan Lewis
HF: Luke Parker - Nick Riewoldt - Rory Sloane
F: Luke Breust - Lance Franklin - Jack Gunston
R: Sam Jacobs - Nat Fyfe - Robbie Gray
I/C: Scott Pendlebury - Tom Rockliff - Gary Ablett - Jarryd Roughead

Bolded are my selections that are different from yours.
Just switched Talia and Hooker. I chose Hanley over Smith on the HBF simply because I think the selection committee may recognise Hanley as a HBF even if he plays predominantly wing. If they do he has been better than Smith.
I put Parker and Sloane on the flanks. I wanted Gray in the starting four midfield because he's been so dynamic with his clearances. Sloane v Beams was line ball. I rate their years basically the same but the three extra games put Sloane over the line for me.
I think Gunston has been slightly better than Roughead and so I wanted him as the third tall in the forward line. Thus Roughead has ended up on the bench.
Jacobs is still the selection for me in the ruck and I think the AA selection committee will agree simply because he has been talked up for the entire 2nd half of the season.
Finally Pendlebury is selected in front of Selwood for mind.
The next cabs off the rank include:
Mids - Beams, Boak, Selwood, Prestia, Martin, Ward
Key backs - Rance, Taylor
Small backs - Smith, Simpson, Duncan?, Burgoyne
Key forwards - Hawkins, Schulz
Small forwards - Ballantyne, Elliott
Rucks - Sandilands, Lobbe, Ryder

lol Robbo lay off the piss mate. Hibberd has absolutely no chance. With injury and a dip in form either side of it he will be lucky to make the squad. Also when is the last time the vice captain was named on the bench? McVeigh has put up numbers, but hasn't been as good as last year when he made the side. No for me. And Selwood as a starting follower and named captain. No no no. Also no Rance, but that's been done to death.

His Essendon bias is a joke.

Why ?
Even seasons where we've whinged about mids getting selected on HFF's they have usually been ones that have hit the scoreboard.
I can see Parker an outsider for a flank (even tho he's been mainly midfield)...but thats coz he's kicked a goal a game.
But why Sloane ?
Same with Beams/Harvey/Martin/Gray...they rate as serious HFF chances this year no matter if u think any have largely played midfield. All of those guys are anywhere between 23-34 goals for the season compared to Sloane's less than impressive 13 goals. Dustin Martin has kicked 27 for starters, Harvey 27, Beams 23, Gray 34 etc ...on what basis does Sloane even get near the only AA HFF slot that is available ? You want to pick your HFFers on their tackling ?

In fact i cant even see Sloane making the squad. As a midfielder ? Nope. As a Fwd ? with 13 goals ? Nope. Bench utility mid ??...plennnttyyy ahead of him.

Just a good season like many many others. Not an AA standard season.

Would not be surprised to see Rance make the AA side at the expense of Talia. Pure stoppers have rarely been favoured over two way players unless they have been head and shoulders above the rest.

True and the selectors seem to have a definite case of weighting late season performances more than early season which may give Rance a shot.

KPD's in the AFLCA award, with games polled/games played

44 Taylor (9/21)
36 Rance (7/17)
30 Thompson (5/21)
29 May (6/19)
26 Gibson (5/14)
22 Mackenzie (7/22)
14 Talia (7/22)
14 Hooker (4/22)

I don't think Taylor has done enough this year to make AA. He has had some absolutely outstanding games which is why he leads in the above post.

You'd know better than those who don't watch him every week, but Brownlow favourites Selwood and Ablett have only polled in 10 games. Chris Scott favourite, maybe?

How close is Eddie Betts?

51 goals as a small forward is superb (8th overall)
29 Goal assists (1st in the comp)

Competing with Breust, Ballantyne. More than likely make the squad.

I don't think they'll name two small forwards - I think Breust gets the gig.

Generally 4-5 players from non-finalists make the cut. This year the non-finalists won 78 games, equalling the record of 1988. Expecting ~7 players from those clubs, same as last year.

N.Smith -------------- D.Talia --------------- Hooker
B.Smith ------------- McKenzie -------------- Malceski
Heppell -------------- Selwood (C) ---------- Rockliff
Gray ----------------- Franklin ---------------- Ballantyne
Breust --------------- Hawkins --------------- Roughead
Jacobs ----------------- Fyfe ------------------- Kennedy

Ablett, Lewis, Pendlebury/McViegh, Boak

Pendles and McViegh is a 50/50 for me.

In b4 Richmond supporters talking about Rance
You talk about him in this thread more then anybody else and it's not even close.

Start posting more constructively, thanks.

Taylor's been very good for most of the year but did have a period of ordinary form. Might be a favourite of Scott's perhaps he understands what it would be like if we didnt have him
