Surprise, surprise from an Eagles fan, but I'd highly dispute those Mackenzie figures.

Heard this before. Going to trust Champion Data figures, gathered by professional statisticians and a source which clubs use, over observations of supporters.

Brodie Smith, Adelaide Crows. Never Previously All Australian. 22 games in 2014. 287 kicks, 108 marks, 209 handballs, averaging 13.0 kicks, 4.9 marks, 9.5 handballs. 11 Goals, Eight Behinds. 18 Clearances, 76 Inside 50, 109 Rebound 50m (second in the AFL). 35 Tackles.

Shaun Burgoyne, Hawthorn. All Australian 2006. 22 games in 2014. 257 kicks, 84 marks, 241 handballs, averaging 11.7 kicks, 3.8 marks, 11.0 handballs. 10 Goals, Five Behinds. 73 Clearances, 75 Inside 50, 42 Rebound 50m. 89 Tackles.

Similar disposal numbers not as many R50 but way more clearances and over double the tackle numbers. Sorry Crows fans but I want defenders who actually know how to defend and not simply get the ball fed to them.
What about the one percenter stats?

I'm not in the least surprised Hodge isn't there but I think you could easily underestimate his season. Think he'll be in the top few in our B&F if it was counted right now.

Not saying he wouldn't be, but that is the same with say Goddard/Hibberd/Ryder for us, and they missed.

As a Dog supporter you can be forgiven for not looking for players in the mythical 'forward line'.

And players that kick straight, maybe teach the Dogs to aim between the big posts and not into Isle 3!

Yeah but they don't play for a good team. ;) Lol. Joking.

Wasn't actually saying YOU could underestimate him. I used you in the generic sense. Like I said, it didn't surprise me. I wouldn't have picked him either. However I think he's been good enough to be top 2-3 in our B&F (to this point) and only used his exclusion as a means of showing that Jones of Melbourne wasn't necessarily stiff (not that Hodge was). I would take Hodge's 24 touches ahead of Jones' 27 every single day of the week. Jones is a good honest footballer who gives his all but I don't watch him and see AA honours.

Yep, Burgoyne shouldn't be judged harshly just because his numbers are down in terms of R50. Not his fault his midfield doesn't run one way like the Crows.
Taking a pot shot at the crows I see........

As good as he's been I don't think Ellis has done enough to get a midfield spot in the final team. I think Dusty and Rance should go close though.
Hanley very stiff not to make the squad.

have you seen hes past games have been putrid, he managed only 1 goal against collingwood, doggies, melbourne, north, carlton, west coast

When did he last go goalless?

And now you've listed his record against a group of generally poor teams, I suggest you check his returns against all the good ones.

2.6 - 1.8. 1 One percent act per game doesn't make up for laying 3 tackles fewer per game.

Ok champ. Burgoyne plays all over the ground, including large portions in the middle, Smith played all year down back and leads the comp for metres gained, was regularly tagged and is one of the most damaging players in the comp. Watch a few games before commenting in the future!

Well that adds up at the end of the year. You do realise Smith purely at half back whereas Burgoyne plays more midfield so his tackle numbers are going to be naturally higher.

AA is a joke. No Mitchell, No Hodge, No Handley, No Cotchin, No Dangerfield, No Mundy, no Barlow, no Enright, and No Griffen.
Griffen for most of the year has struggled due to his back injury so not to fussed about him
