Most will remember the Norm Smith curse being broken by the Demons when they won their 2021 flag in Perth and that was obviously special for the club but since then they've gone out in straight sets in consecutive years as a top 4 team:

2022 QF: Melbourne (2nd) def. by Sydney (3rd) by 22 points @ MCG
2022 SF: Melbourne (2nd) def. by Brisbane (6th) by 13 points @ MCG
2023 QF: Melbourne (4th) def. by Collingwood (1st) by 7 points @ MCG
2023 SF: Melbourne (4th) def. by Carlton (5th) by 2 points @ MCG

How so? Is there another curse at play here?

Look on the bright side. They're getting closer each time!

Is it a curse or were they just beaten by 2 likely grand finalists (Swans 2022 & Pies 2023), and 2 sides that are pretty good (really, still a chance at being 3 grand finallists).

They have a bottom 8 forward line for cohesiveness - you can’t just slam names like Fritsch & Pickett in and expect 13+ goals. They’re good but their goals are largely those half-chance goals.

Dees have no reliable easy avenue to goal. They have no genuine competing forward. Their depth in the position is poor. That’s not a curse, it’s just not being a top 4 side in the comp.

Won a covid premiership which is basically irrelevant.
This gave Goodwin the idea that he was actually a decent coach (he really isn't).
Since then the Dees have been hamstrung by just how s**t Goodwin is at coaching, even i could implement their gameplan of kick it long into the 50 and hope for the best.

There is no curse. They have a very good midfield and backline. The problem is the forward line malfunctions and is inaccurate when it does get shots at goal.

Exactly. They can talk up their flag as much as they like but the 2020 and 2021 flags are irrelevant.

Draw manipulated with a week’s notice in 2021, half the games played in front of no crowds, no finals in Melbourne. I could never go back and watch any game from those seasons. That even includes the 1pt win against WCE in the EF. Couldn’t care less.

Dees still haven’t won a flag in front of their members and fans since 1964.

2020 and 2021 were COVID-impacted seasons. 2022 saw fixtures released every six rounds.

Josh Daicos kicked goal of the year midweek on a Thursday night at the Gabba.

For the Dees, they've been 0-4 since normality resumed.
